I'm sure you have 500,000 comments saying this already, but bucks routinely shed their antlers (or lose them through other means), then grow them back. Also, did you ever stop to consider the fact that if Louis got Haru pregnant, their child would be a Jackalope?

Legoms side story is actually a clever self insert by the author herself talking about how her manga was moving days. In manga serialisations they have prime time slots and beastars had gained enough popularity to be moved. TL:DR Egg sandwiches are the manga the hen is Paru and she takes a lot of pride in her work and was happy that her work had gained enough popularity to moved to the prime time slot.

Deer shed their antlers, I can actually see how that could be a bit confusing without context. His antlers aren't fake he just needed a few days to make some fakes for the time being.

Adolescent deer regularly shed their antlers then regrow them after a while. Louis wants fake ones to wear during this period because being seen without them would make him look less commanding. Don’t get it confused, his antlers are not fake most of the time

I feel like Legoshi's interaction with Juno is him being oblivious, not seeing that someone else is showing an intense interest in you because you think you're not worth or couldn't inspire that kind of feeling in another person.

Haru's year comes up in episode 2. She's a 3rd year along with Louis. They've been in whatever you want to call their current relationship for 2 years.

The thing about THICC Hens is that it's almost entirely feathers. The conversation was everything I was hoping for with this episode. Just so you're aware the manga has several of these small 1 chapter stories that follow an animal that isn't the focus of the story. These also tend to be some of the best chapters in the manga and every one we get adapted into the anime is a gift. I hope nobody will view this as a spoiler but there's a great chapter later that takes place at a dairy.

The Legom bits are meant for world building in the manga and show, and interesting detail, she's actually a stand in for the creator of Beastars, Para Itagaki, who wears a mask of Legom's head in interviews and public outings, and prefers to keep her personal life private

i've seen a few beastars reactions, and its weird that there are people who thinks the common eggs we eat are fertilized, therefore are chicken unborn babies, so they get all disturbed by the fact that chicken is ok and prideful at her task

Poor Juno is just a freshman trying to live her cliche shojo romance only for it to be crushed by Legosi's obliviousness. I'm literally here not shipping anybody and just enjoying the ride, but even watching it a second time makes be sympathize with her a little.

I always thought that red eyes at the end were meant to symbolize Legoshi's hunting instinct. So far his eyes were red when the hunting instinct took over. So the question is: Does he really love her or is it a warped hunting instinct?

There's a lot of psychology here, and its all about him 'dealing' with that hunting or primal instinct, can he control it? Or will 'it' control him? Lets find out!

I figured that it was a mixture of his hunting instincts but also the possessiveness that he would have if they were together. Like wolves interested in mates will fight for them. So in other words it’s a bit of both but both are deeply rooted in instincts.

The Legom mini-story was in fact in the manga! The chapter is actually placed between episodes 5 and 6, but they put it there at the beginning of episode 7

I liked the Legom part because it was about how it's okay for her to do what's within her nature, and it's accepted in society, whereas carnivores can't act in their nature.

It's also about which fetishes are allowed and which aren't. Legoshi refers to the reason for liking Haru, both other females, as a small herbivore fetish. That's frowned upon a lot. Yet the chicken is obsessed with animals eating her eggs, and that's seen as a laudable trait. The chicken is not normal, that's the importance of her conversation with the other chicken student. But, she is still rewarded for her deviations while Legoshi is punished.

@@SwordTune it isn't really frowned upon because it's small herbivores. It's because they're not only being different animals, they're also carnivore and herbivore and these type of relationships can be dangerous, especially because of their natural instinct. When the herbivore is a small animal, they can't even fight back when it happens.

If you think about it, the ability to provide carnivores sources of non-meat protein is the only reason this society can even function. It's probably SUPER fulfilling to be an egg-laying hen and know that you're actively helping keep civilization from crumbling around you.

I think the questioning of what Haru's motives are is always interesting because I really think she is an interesting and complete character but she's not the main focus so we don't usually get to see the story from her perspective. I think she probably was trying to gauge Legoshi's response to check if he was upset with her but, just like Legoshi rationalizes his carnivore instincts as love, this was likely a rationalization of something deeper. Haru and Legoshi have a lot more in common than you would think despite being opposites.

I loved this episode so much, and seeing the paint shot in the anime finally was super awesome! Luis and Haru's connection is on the complex side, but it's also super emotional and painful too. They really seem like they have this relationship of licking each other's wounds, while also liking each other genuinely. Legosi finally saying that he's in love with Haru, whether or not he has more positive or negative emotions along with it, and his fierceness is so awesome. I can't wait for everyone to experience the rest of the season and more parts of the story. Side note, season 2 is gonna rock whenever it comes out!

it's more that he dislikes showing ANY form of weakness, and thus hides anything that could potentially make him seem weaker. So he hides his antlers shedding even though it's completely normal because of the off-chance it'll make him seem 'lesser' somehow

His Antlers are real dudes. Deer shed their antlers every year. He merely happened to shed his antlers early when they first met. Haru and Lous were a thing for a year before Legosi got involved with Haru. That antler loss scene happened a year earlier story time. Why would Louis care about shedding his antlers erarly? Who knows, Maybe in his world a young buck losing his antlers early leaves him open to ribbing. Like only loser deer "blow" their antlers early.

I thinks it’s more of a big deal for specifically Louis because he prides his image and wants others to see him as his perfect self. Him shedding his antlers at all may seem like a sign of weakness/vulnerability/imperfection to Louis which is against his everything.

Yeah no Louis' antlers are not fake like many people are saying, all deer shed their antlers and grow them back, some deer will also get antler's that grow abnormally and people have to cut those antlers off or the Deer will injure their necks. Look into on youtube it's quite a fascinating procedure.

Before I watched Beastars I stumbled upon the world of deer shedding antlers on YT and it's always blown my mind that deer can have such a bloody shed or Velvet Shed, (basically it looks like a deer murdered something and then wore the bloody carcass on their antlers lol) So when Louis shed his, I immediately was like this ain't a bad representation even if he just shed them for his early shed and not the velvet one, but kinda makes you think what it would look like animated if they showed him in his earlier years during this process. How close to reality does the manga go?

A male deer loses his anders every winter and they regrow in summer. It doesn't hurt the deer but it can get bloody. So it was not even over exaggerated. They fall off as a whole and the stumps will grow over with skin and then when new antlers grow the skin will be torn apart again which sometimes itches so the deers rub their heads on trees a lot to get the skin away so the antlers can grow free.

Deer shed and grow back there antlers seasonally. Most likely he only wanted fakes to fill the time for them to grow back. But yeah that insecurity of not knowing whether they're real or fake is still there.

Thing that didn’t really click w/ me when I read the manga but suddenly did now is that when Legosi was in the process of trying to decide if he was hunting Haru or attracted to her, the thing that made him realize it was attraction was that he became jealous of Louis, a prey-type animal who isn’t biologically capable of being his competition for a “hunt”

remember that haru doesnt really have friends. shes always alone. shes the only one at her club. i do believe she was being genuine when she asked him for help. she has said before how she could see the two of them becoming friends.

So fun fact that dream sequence was animated by Yoko Kuno a young talented animator. You might remember the ending animation of Land of the Lustrous which she also did.
