I get that both "had enough" phrases mean different things, but I also get why people jump on this dialogue. In the Japanese version of the scene, Taki says something like "You don't give up, do you?" which makes the dialogue flow at least a little better, I would say.
@@ArvelDreth So I'm going to take a guess and assume that the guest character battles are just filler for whatever happens there in lore after he arrives?
@@Diamond_2403 well if you play as Raphael it's not like you fight all the guest characters. If you're Raphael, you fight Nightmare at Ostreinsburg Castle. If you're a guest character, Raphael is there. I guess you could call that filler, but Raphael is simply the one who is there for the sake of continuity.
@@kenpoarniceguy1 yeah and I kinda expected heihachi to have yoshimitsu as his rival considering this yoshimitu is the ancestor to the tekken counterpart. Would have made for some interesting dialogue
It would’ve been hilarious if spawn references and mentions soul calibur in mortal kombat 11. Kinda like where the Joker mentions dark kahn from MKvsDC to kotal kahn.
@@the-dullahan In canon, Maxi does kill Astaroth prior to the events of the game. Astaroth was then resurrected and made much more powerful. So it would explain why Maxi wailed on him immediately but it having no effect
Pretty sure the canonical fight is betweem Raphael and Nightmare. I find it very stranger they choose Talim over anyone else to fight Necrid with no other way other then her dying to him 🤔 Cuz with Talim, you fight Yun.
No, Raphael Vs Nightmare is canon in Soul Calibur 2. Raphael challenged the Azure Knight for Soul Edge which lead to a fight that the French Noble lost. But just as Nightmare was about to finish off Raphael, he froze as Siegfried had a mental battle for control over his body. This gave Raphael to stab the eye of Soul Edge, finally freeing Siegfried from Nightmare’s control. Suddenly Soul Calibur appeared in the form of a Zweihander. Siegfried took the sword and stabbed Soul Edge, destroying it once again.
@@itskindawindy989 It's probably because they just wanted to show off the new characters to this game. They were: * Cassandra (Given an extra battle with Sophitia, has a story connection) * Yunsung (Given an extra battle with Mina-Seong, has a story connection) * Raphael (Given an extra battle with the guests - this one could've been anyone, but I guess he was the psuedo-protagonist) * Charade - Technically new, but he's just this game's mimic, so not really So Talim & Necrid are the last (real) new characters, and Necrid needs a battle... Talim it is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ That's my theory, anyway. It probably could've been any of them, but maybe they just decided she fit the best since she's a priestess, and he's corrupted or something
@@samflood5631He did NOT destroy Soul Edge. Inferno ( the will of Soul Edge ) escaped and nested inside the remains of Nightmare's armor while the two soul swords merged with one another and created the Embrace Of Souls/ Soul Embrace. It was Zasalamel who warped Siegfried's mind and allowed him to defeat Inferno in a mental struggle and regain control of his body and it was also him who gave Inferno a physical form afterwards, turning him into the second ( and most popular ) Nightmare.
Like how there would be Rival fights in Street Fighter IV? I completely agree. I couldn’t imagine how great these destined battles would look in 2019 graphics.
It's obviously not the same, but somewhere around Soul Calibur IV-Soul Calibur V I started to write what I would do if I created my own Soul Calibur game (one of the Soul Calibur wikis allows you to create fanon pages), and one of the things I did was bring back Destined Battles (and even wrote who would fight who) - the game is supposed to be set after SCIV, ignoring everything that comes after it.
@@MJN_SEIFER Destined Battles still existed throughout the series, what planet are you guys on? Soul Calibur III continues with specific, story-related final battles for each character, and Soul Calibur IV did the same, in which EVERY single fight on story mode was specific to that character (featuring unique match ups and dialogue). Soul Calibur V, having been stuck in Limbo for so long was a rather hollowed out version of the game it was meant to be, so Story Mode chose your characters for you, but even so, each character had a SPECIFIC destined battle on Arcade Mode, which they would face before the final fight with Nightmare, includong Create A Soul characters (who would all face Aeon as their destined battle). Soul Calibur VI once again haha independent story modes for characters, which will feature specifically selected opponents throughout.
Ethan Casem Nightmare ALMOST killed Raphael. But Raphael was quick enough to stab Nightmare's sword and was able to get away. But from the fight, Raphael was infected from whatever was in Nightmare's sword. He basically freed Siegfried from Soul Edge. Which started his vampire phase along with Amy.
@@thejoshh5706 According to SC lore, he specifically became "Malfested", which is basically a curse of the Soul Calibur and other sources of evil that turns living beings into zombie-vampire-demon....things...by feeding on the darkness in their hearts. Other malfested characters include Cervantes, Astaroth, Tira and Pyrra....though we don't like to talk about Pyrra...>_>
@@ethancasem160 Siegfried wins. Nightmare and Raphael both lose. Siegfried regains control of his body just before Nightmare uses it to kill a gravely wounded Raphael. This gives Raphael the opportunity to strike back at the Azure Night, frozen in place, and realizing the source of it's power is Soul Edge, he strikes and plunges his sword into its eye. This crippling blow gives him the chance to flee, yet his wounds get the better of him, but the evil energy of Soul Edge keeps him alive. Simultaneously, it gives Siegfried a chance to reclaim his body and fight against Soul Edge's power, which causes the events in which there is a complete separation of Nightmare and Soul Edge's bodies, allowing Nightmare to be physically manifested by Zasalamel (which is why we have a separate, hostless Nightmare in Soul Calibur III and IV) Ironically, after Soul Edge's Nightmare form is destroyed and a new form is created between the events of Soul Calibur IV and V, it is Raphael's now deceased body which is taken by Soul Edge's servants to create a new Nightmare, in a test by Soul Edge to see if it can consine the soul and mind from a vessel and alter it's memories to keep it's preferred fighting style and knowledge. That test was a moderate success, but "Dumas" the new Azure Knight, was not nearly as powerful as it's previous form, and was not only defeated easily, but caused loyal servants, Tira among them, to turn against it and find a new host form for Soul Edge to infect, thus giving rise to the Crimson Despair, new chosen weirder of Soul Edge. This series of events also resulted in a spiritually formed revenant of Raphael to come into being, one which could not recall the events of the last several years and knew only that he must go and find Amy. Amy had suffered a similar fate and was now going by the name Viola.
Interesting they pitched Link against Raphael. Probably the first time they both fought against a skilled left handed swordsman with styles unfamiliar to them both.
Years later on MK11, Spawn makes his appearance, referring to his harrowing experience to Scorpion (Hanzo Hasashi) about why his soul still burns. If only he meets Kratos...
I like how Raphael is pretty arrogant against the other guest characters, but against Spawn he's like "Oh shit oh fuck he's gonna yank my spine out through my ass or some other crazy 90's comics shit"
Yeah he’s also the first time a fencer has ever shown up in SC, which for technically the third game of a franchise all about sword fighting is pretty overdue.
can we just appreciate the facial expressions for the destined battles to? Notice how most of the characters look angry but a few (like talim) show different emotions like sadness. Definitely a subtle detail i dont see talked about
I find it interesting that Raphael has the most destined battles. It’s like Namco made us believe that he would become the new protagonist with the various promotions before he would become corrupted.
I always thought they were building up Raphael as the next wielder of Soul Edge. Instead we got Nightmare again for the rest of the series and Raphael became a friggin' vampire for some reason.
He beat Nightmare and almost became the next wielder. But it was a pyrrhic victory for him. His blood was infected by Soul Edge's dark power. When he recovered from his wounds, he became malfested in a way that mimicked vampirism.
I remember hating Yun-Seong back when this 1st came out. Disrespectful annoying little shit. *"NO, let young people handle it!"* Wasnt Seong Mina still in her 20s in this game?
I think it would've been cool if the final chapter for each character would be actually animated, though I understand they were really suffering budget wise
@@TheRealIconG i know but still something! its sad how little faith they have it in though they messed up with 5 but the series shouldnt die because of that I mean they shoudove known better though. they dont advertise it at all its not as much known as other games. They give way to much attention to tekken giving jt way more stuff dlc and even a story its nit even in full English sc is so much better to me and way easier to pick up while still having a skill gap. 6 sold well I heard so hopefully they go all out in 7 it may be the last one unfortunately
@@mrthanos8140 Yeah, Bamco doesn't treat SoulCalibur well. They expect it to do as good as Tekken when that's just not gonna happen, it's forever the little brother Hopefully with how well financially and critically SC6 did, they'll be willing to give Project Soul a bigger budget and more time
Man I miss playing soul calibur my main character used to be maxi but my goat character was the one and only heihachi mans been in dam near every game outside of tekken
For those of you who don’t know, I’m starring as Hong Yun-Seong in Soul Calibur the Movie. Although, I’m not gonna lie, seeing Hong Yun-Seong and Talim or Seong-Mina fight each other in the Destined Battle really brings tears to my eyes.
When the video started I was like "Even after all these years, how come I haven't seen this." but then I instantly remember it when Link showed up because that was the only character I used. xD
Can’t Mitsurugi and Taki just f**k and get it over with? I mean with the destined battle in Soul Calibur 2 and Taki and Mitsurugi always appearing at each other endings in Soul Calibur 3, these two clearly have a thing for one another.
Mitsurugi vs taki Heihachi vs Raphael Link vs Raphael Necrid vs talim Spawn vs Raphael Xianghua vs kilik Cassandra vs charade Ivy vs Cervantes Yunsung vs talim Raphael vs nightmare Voldo vs yoshimitsu Sophitia vs Cassandra Astaroth vs maxi Seung mina vs yunsung
If this game was on Switch with rollback, it would’ve been THE definitive version of the game. But even without rollback, it still would’ve been the best version due to having the entire roster.
hes a guest/full character in all 3 versions. He is an original creation of seth mcfarlene as seen in the title card where it says "Necrid character owned by Mcfarlene"
He's referring to Voldo's master, the Merchant of Death: Vercci. Vercci was a weapons dealer who I *think* is dead, and Voldo believes his master still wants Soul Edge, and along with it, more souls Yoshimitsu calls bluff to this, finding a man who deals in the souls of men to be absurd
