Today we are checking out Soul Covenant VR. This isn't a Soul Covenant Review as Third-verse asked me to cover this game but I was happy to jump into this VR Anime World. Soul Covenant is a combination of vr hack and slash plus vr rpg. It's a new VR game that definitely cool but most likely not for everyone. Available on the Meta Quest, PCVR and PSVR2, prepare for some VR tactical action.

New comment after playing a few hours last night. I think it's great. I can see why some people may not like the game but it's not bad by any means. The movement is what stands out to me the most, its definitely hamstrung and it felt off at first but it makes sense to me now in the grand scheme of things. Gives it a nice sense of urgency during combat. I also love the script, it comes off as obtuse but I really dig the double entendre aspect of the dialogue and having to wrap my head around things. Things are falling into place for me and I found myself really absorbed in the world that Thirdverse created. The gameplay loop feels like a handheld title, which makes sense considering it's a spiritual successor to Vita's Soul Sacrifice. Imagine what this team could do with a larger budget. I just wish there were full levels to explore. Man that would be sick. As of right now, I'm totally happy with the game.

Totally agree. I think the story comes off awkward due to rough localisation. Some lines make perfect sense when read, but the way they're spoken is off in the pacing and tone. Overall though, there's fun to be had here but it lets itself down with things like the awkward story/structure and the waggle combat.

My buddy skips cutscenes in most games. He's all about the gameplay. Dude can beat battle toads on NES, one of those wizard gamers.

This game gives me such God Eater vibes, I'm here for it. Always wanted to Play Soul Sacrifice, but never had a Vita. God Eater is also painfully easy at first and takes some time ramp up and really get good. I mostly just wanted to know if combat felt ok. Now I gotta decide if I'm getting it on PC or PSVR2..

Soul Sacrifice was the flagship game for PSVITA,really enjoyed that game with friends. It was a monster hunter style game.

Combat is fun when you start incorporating the perfect guard. Basically stay on the offensive, learn the attack patterns, perfect guard, fire the demon cannon, attack again. It's pretty basic but I think it feels great. Movement is hamstrung but it creates such a sense of urgency for me. Hacking away, taking the attack patterns into account, looking over my shoulder for potential trash mobs. It makes you feel like such a badass if you engage with the mechanics. I'm curious what the Ex missions will throw at me, I'm ready for the game to get real difficult and throw multiple bosses at once at me. 🔥🔥🔥

Watching this review after playing the game for 4-5 hours. We (3 players on PSVR2) got it for co-op which opened up after ~1 hour (early part of Chapter 2). The game has gotten really difficult for us with end boss of Chapter 3. We have managed to get S rank on all the battle levels leading up to that (some we had to go back to S rank) and we have applied all the upgrades we can at this point and still the boss (God of Evil with the Beard as weak spot) is just too tanky and we run out of time before defeating him or he defeats us if we are too aggressive and not taking it slow / careful. Maybe the game is easier to play solo, but as a co-op game for up to 4P, maybe we need that 4th player because the game is scaled for 4P but there are only 3 of us and the game gives us an AI 4th player for the squad that doesn't seem very useful as we get further in game. I was just curios how you reviewed the game and I am surprised to see it being called too easy and also no mention of the co-op.

I got this game last week for 8dol, so it's worth it, played 1h sp far but is a very simple game apparently I mean, for the full price should be a AAA game, the entire game happens in this arenas? Or is it an open world or something like that at some point? What about the platinum is it hard or challenging?

i didn't have access to the PSVR2 version but I assume it will look very similar to the PC version. DFR is fairly new on unity games so I'm not expecting it

The PSVR2 version is indeed the PC version. It is reprojected, but decently done without a lot of ghosting. Definitely not DFR. The game itself, however, has other issues... Waggle combat with a lot of standing still or being talked at while looking at still images.

I really hope we get an in-depth look like this into that game Behemoth. Not saying this isn’t good or anything, but I’m honestly tired of everyone trying to be anime this and Sword art Online that. Thirdverse had a chance to make something truly special with Altair and SOG but look at those games now. Basically abandoned. This company really needs to focus on immersive single player experiences

I mean, it looks pretty cool and might be for me. But 40 bucks is a lot to ask for a game of this scope... That's more than Vertigo 2, it'll have to show some amazing story telling for that! Alright, let's see, maybe I will get the Steam version and give it a shot.

Those games are good. But the lack of high graphics still annoys me. Like asgard's wrath on PC versus my quest 3 such a difference in graphics. I'm glad crystal is still trying to give us top graphics. With a new proposed headset. I have a bunch of VR headsets but the crystal even though they don't have as many games it's just so much better. I guess because I play regular video games and the graphics got so much greater it feels like a step back. With the quest headsets. I know you don't like pinax 😁

I dont have anything directly against pimax but their products have continually disappointed me. At this point I've owned 16 hmds and theirs are amongst my least favorite. I received 2 broken crystals and now it seems the just cut me off with no response. It doesn't matter how nice the visual on the hmd are if the games don't match it

@@Gamingwithmatteo311 I replaced my Crystal twice. When I bought mine when it was first released. But now it works perfectly and I use it more often than my quest 3. Even for watching movies. But I also like the quest 3 really excellent headset. Just my opinion

I thought this game would be able to give hell sweeper a run for its money. But it looks kind of boring with the lack of locomotion. But the graphics and enemies look cool

Great first impression. The graphics and weapons are good looking and cool but I like physics based weapons. Also, they alway have to put big boobs on the women. What’s up with that! 😂

This is a recurring problem with all Japanese games: They go all out on a story that borders on the convoluted, usually nice graphics... and about Zero thought towards gameplay. Something about the Japanese corporate system that tanks gameplay innovation. They stick stalwartly to one form of gameplay and ignore any emergent gameplay they might have discovered during development, as well as glaring problems NOBODY wants to take responsibility to fix. You only hear about a Japanese game with innovative gameplay when there was ONE GUY on the team who, through some miracle nobody understands, managed to get the suits to follow his vision completely.
