One thing I love about Soul Crystals is that they're one of the many things in FF14 that has a history in the Final Fantasy franchise. FF3 and 5 link their jobs to finding crystals which contain memories of the past and then FF Tactics' intro even says: "A warrior takes sword in hand, clasping a gem to his heart... Engraving vanishing memories into the sword, He places finely honed skills into the stone. Spoken from the sword, handed down from the stone" And yeah when someone dies in Tactics they drop a crystal which when collected you get their EXP and skills. Then FFX-2 has the dress spheres which also have the same idea and FINALLY explores more of the idea of some bit of personality being in those stones. I kinda wish they went further with that but for those who didn't play it, in X-2 Yuna starts to get semi-posessed by the Songstress dress sphere and tries to unravel the mysteries of what happened in the past to the person who it represents. So very much a cool thing to see FF14 reference and continue.

I've awaited for this. Though 4 minutes.. first off.. First. But I love these lore videos and make it easier to explain things to my friends who wants to try to rp or even play the game.

One topic I'd like to explore is the independent explanations of the different magics shown so far in game.

@@synryx6061 ultimately most if not all magics are just ethereal manipulation. The big thing is where the aether comes from and the way it is used. An example is how a red mage uses their own aether to use black and white magic but their rapier to “accelerate” that aether to increase its effect. Where as WHM and BLM can pull their aether from their surroundings etc. You know, now Iv started explaining this maybe it would be a good video. Perhaps maybe it will just be included with job lore vids. Thanks for the thought! -Elioaux

I wonder how (or if) Garleans use Soul Crystals considering they can't manipulate Aether.

Great question. That I know of they do not, but since reaper was a practice native to garleans it’s distinctly possible they do. The soul crystals in theory shouldn’t need to be held by a manipulator of aether to gain their knowledge and attune to them. As for if they can -use- one or if they have to always learn from scratch it’s more ambiguous. There are also occasions that imply some if not all garleans have a very limited ability to connect to aether, not enough to use magics but if soul crystals -did- require magic it may be a work around. -Elioaux

@@TheEorzeanArchives Having to learn everything from Scratch every time- I can see how Garleans might be bitter against people who CAN *reliably* manipulate Aether.

@@akiramasashi9317 absolutely, It didn't help that as far as we know they were actually treated pretty terribly and driven out of their homelands by those with magic. -Elioaux

@@akiramasashi9317 Seeing as it was centuries ago it may not be on the forefront but the reaper questline should hopefully touch on it. Just having a map of and location we can go to in Ilsabard alone will do a lot to fill in some gaps but the Garlemald of the past century is very different to the one of the prior 1400 years in the 6th astral era and before. Thavnair is also close to the ancestral home and so is Dalmasca so we will surely know more in future days. -Elioaux
