Soul: Pixar's Most Daring Film (NO SPOILERS) 

yeah it was good to end 2020 on a high note with this

Yeah I'm happy pixar made this movie because it's clearly not for kids. A lot more people are dropping this view that everything that's animated automatically has to be for kids and Pixar's taking a step towards it.

One of my biggest pet peeves is how when people saw this movie they were "concerned kids weren't gonna get it". Like first of all who said this movie was for kids? This movie is way too complex and nuanced for a kid to really understand. I'd say tweens above is the right age range. Not everything that's animated automatically means it's for kids.

@@JinlongTheGoldenDragon then again the animations always look kid friendly which makes it easy to fool all families

I was happy we got a story about a black character that wasn't about racism. It seems like it's mandatory that every time there's a black focused movie racism has to be involved but this movie is a great story that just happens to feature a black character

@@JinlongTheGoldenDragon I will admit the character designs almost look like Big Mouth but thankfully It wasn't too much to distract from still enjoying this film, Joe, 22, and Mr. Mittens were one of my favourites. If your curious how I got my love for Jazz came from, then look no further to old Calloway and Big Voodoo Daddy that got me to sing and groove and the kind of person who wants to vacation In New Orleans now and then.

Yeah I wish too, but I think pixar was as deep and reflective as they could without compromising disney's ability to sell plushies and merch for little kids.

Trust me, I don't like existential crisis movies either, but the way this movie approaches it isn't in a doomer sort of way, it just encourages you to do what characters in pixar movies do. Change your perspective.

I wouldn't say it's pixar's best, but definitely their most "different" leaning toward abstract movie. Even its story structure doesn't follow the same as all the other films before it, it appears to but it's slightly different. Coco remains my favourite Pixar movie

@@JinlongTheGoldenDragon Of course everyone has their own opinion but Soul is definitely my favorite. Also for a second I truly thought that Joe would just go to the great beyond and be like "nah I lived enough", but thatt was just way too dark for Pixar

hey thanks. Yeah I loved just how insightful and subtle this movie was willing to go. Most pixar films have very clear messages and a big emotional ending. Not the same with this one, everything is extremely subtle and open to interpretation.

@@JinlongTheGoldenDragon I'll admit, the way this movie was marketed turned me off... I thought they were gonna do the Princess and the Frog thing, too... glorify they have an all black cast (for sj brownie points and only focus on the aspect of their appearance) but showcase them as blue blobs... then my friend sold me on it by saying it's actually a very INTELLECTUAL movie... and I was like, "REEEALLY??... Huh..." And I'm super glad I watched it; I've seen it 3 times and I wanna see it more and dissect the ideas in it...

honestly I hated mushu in the original, that's a positive point for me. What I hate is how they cut off bisexual icon Li Shang.

the problem with princess and the frog wasn't the characters, everybody loved Tiana and Naveen. The problem was the direction and execution. It's a legit problem that they spend the majority of the movie as something else, while white protagonists rarely get the same treatment. It's a great movie, but it missed the mark on that.

I found it fairly straightforward. Didn't mind that John Goodman (forgot the characters name and just huge fan) and his daughter not being focused on cause it's not their story, they are part of it, but Tiana and naveen are the main focus with the duel quest of reversing the voodoo and stopping the minion. Not the best, it was the awkward period of Disney's 2d vs 3d animation. I think it's a cult classic. And this is more of an aside. I took inspiration from Dr facilier when I was making my samedi character for vampire the Masquerade. Got him all the way to prince before the apocalypse happened.

tbh I didn't mind the cat too much I just thought it was a random choice to make Joe go into the cat's body
