I remember getting to Melchiah's part. Before the fight started I paused the game, left my apartment, want downstairs to my friend place and asked him to help me defeat this dude. He gave me the "do it yourself" look and closed the door in my face. Sigh, good times....
Anyone think that Melchiah knew more than we are letting on? He knew that Kain would not risk everything on Raziel's wings but instead started a new chain in fate. Melchiah ALSO knew that Raziel was going to be the last of his brothers to die. Which he most certainly was. If Raziel asked better questions we might have been able to delve deep into what Melchiah really knows.
You make good points, it might because of how inferior everyone else considered him, he could get away with knowing more than his brothers. Melchiah is a tragic figure all the same.
You’re digging a little to deep into Melchiah. When he said the last to die, he was referring to when Raziel was put to death. And the inheritance comment was referring to Kain destroying Raziel’s clan because they may have rose against Kain after learning he had Raziel put to do death. That’s why he called it a upstart inheritance. You have to remember Kain cared little for Melchiah compared to his other brothers
I'm pretty sure that when he said "You are the last to die" he was referring to Raziel's clan, which he was just asked about by Raziel himself. It makes more sense considering the context.
@@kiddfaz turns out it wasn’t Kain who ordered the extermination of the Razielim, instead it was Turel. Turel seeing an advantage with the “death” of Raziel, sent the Turelim to exterminate the Razielim to gain territory and power, not even on the orders of Kain, but his own volition. Seems there’s no loyalty even in family.
3:00 FINISH HIM 3:30 Raziel wins... Fatality... Now in all seriousness, this was the first boss in my gaming life that I couldn't beat with brawn and I had to use my brain to defeat... this game was one of the good things from my childhood.
@234Assassin Well it was "I'm released" He was glad to to be released from his "revolting" form. A unique parallel to Raziel, who too found his new form to be horrid, but unlike Melchiah, he could NOT escape from it.
Yep. From what I've read, Melchiah had to stitch the bodies of his victims into his own to maintain his body. As Raziel stated earlier, Melchiah was the weakest of the vampires that Kain raised, so despite his immortality, his body couldn't sustain its own flesh.
Raziel menacingly - "answer me ~little brother~ or I will BEAT an answer from your horrid lips". The voice acting in this is phenominal, video games lack this kind of quality now-a-days.
When I played this game I had the German version. Now don't get me wrong, the original is amazing, but the German Melchiah is just... One of the best supporting characters I have ever heard. But Melchiah is brilliant anyway. He really shows you what vampires in this world are all about. Deranged abominations that have lost all direction. One of the greatest first bosses I have ever played against. He really introduces you to the game, even more than your first encounters with the other creatures
I honestly felt kind of bad for Melchiah. When you kill him he sounds relieved and he straight up says “I am released”. He really got the raw deal as far as the children of Kain go.
Nope, PC version. In hindsight, PS version running through an emulator would have been a more effective way to get the videos, but I didn't own the PS version at the time, so... no dice. Sorry!
Not in Janos' case! He spent hundreds of years dead, between when Sarafan Raziel tore out his heart, and 'real' Raziel put it back in. So time since birth is in his case much longer then total time spent alive. :) Same thing with Raziel - he was killed (by himself...) and spent hundreds of years dead before Kain resurrected him.
If you'll take a look through the videos here, each of the many, many people who submitted the exact same or similar criticism got the same response. And each who does in the future will, too. Sorry if it wasn't meant that way - but you've got to understand how much I get that.
i think its so bad ass how raziel is super small compared to his brothers, and yet yet he still own the hell out of all of them. Raziel = bad ass emenies = pwned
The corruption that Nupraptor inflicted upon all members of the circle upon discovering Ariel dead spread to all of Kain's "children" when he made them, and eventually caused their devolution.
For those who don't know why Melchiah is missing his legs, He recieved the pourest portion of Kain's gift when he was revived from his Sarafan tomb. So he looked frail even though he was immortal.
Human Raziel was alive a long time before Kain, but spent a few hundred years dead before Kain raised him - so I suppose it depends whether you're looking at his age as the amount of time since his (human) birth, or the amount of time he spent alive.
Do you not recognise me brother? Me: have you seen your face into a mirror lately? Not even Kain could recognise you and he isn't the best in the extreme make overs...
To make this even creepier, we should all keep in mind that Melchiah and his offspring are so fucked up that they have to steal body parts and skin off of corpses in nearby graveyards JUST to keep themselves intact. What made this battle truly scary for me was how safe I THOUGHT I was in the Spectral Realm when I got whooped. Still scares the crap out of me.
@SoulRippster I fail to see how this is relevant. He could have been alive for a bazillion years before he was killed - spent 10 minutes dead - and been resurrected again, then lived another bazillion years. His "time since birth" is still 10 minutes longer than his "time alive". If the amount of time he spent dead is greater than zero (which it is), this is true.
Quite possibly one of the most gruesome deaths I've seen in a game. To be turned into mincemeat in a grinder like that. All I can say to that is FUCKING OUCH!!!
No Raziel probably relaized it was melchiah because Melchiah asked if he didn't recognise and also called him Brother. Plus he was in Melchiah's territory.
@Joudas Are you serious... Janos is an Ancient... who can tell how many centuries he was alive before he was killed? At least a thousands plus years, considering Vorador... and besides between his death and ressurection "only" 500 years passed...
i agree i was 6 and i had a playstation1 when i played the game and i never got to malchiah and i never know malchiah could go to the spectral realm and my brother and i agree it would be awesome if kain and raziel was on soul calibur 4
I figured out somthing yesterday. We all know that the heart of darkness was used by mortanias to reanimate Kain, but Raziel ripped it out of Janous Ordrin, many years before dosn't that make Raziel older than Kain. (just a thought.)
Yup. POLE7645 is right. It came out for the PS1 (or in my case the original PSX) before the other systems. I've never played SR1 on anything else besides the PS1.
@dskull2000 Isnt it?Well, which one is the answer then?Cuz im pretty sure mine is right(though i guess Malchiah is this horrible because of his natural decay, since he was the lesser of the brothers)
I also played it on the PSX (aka 1st generation Playstation). I guess some people just need to seriously do their research before they jump into something they're not prepared for... :/
And as a result, they all became ugly, ravenous mutants. But why would it not affect Kain like that, too? After all this time, he looks exactly the same as in the intro.
you have to admit, soul reaver is very original BTW i forgot the story of this game for years, how was raziel's brothers changed into disfigured creatures?
yeah...they didnt actually respect sequel thing. Im not quite sure...but i think this is the order:LoK Blood Omen Lok Soul Reaver Lok Blood Omen 2 Lok Soul Reaver 2 Lok Defiance
