@@idglet9565 Don't forget the fully modeled 3D environments and seamless world with no loading screens. The only other games on the PS1 that had a seamless 3D world that I know of are the King's Field games by Fromsoftware (maybe other games by them like Shadow Tower, but I never played those) And even tho King's Field is pretty cool, it's a much simpler game compared to Legacy of Kain, be it in level design, gameplay and graphics. Legacy of Kain was ahead of it's time alright x.x
@@rickydo6572 Silent Hill did as well, but that's genuinely nuts. How can it do that and have 2 worlds at the same time and not shit itself? The work must have been immense.
* provided they don't change the identity of the game. I would revolt if they remade it to a hack and slash game. Enhanced 3d puzzle platformer or bust! But souls-like puzzle platformer... I could probably get on board with.
The company that owns the rights to this just did a poll for if fans wanted a reboot, remaster, or new game. So hopefully in another 5 years we'll have a new game lol.
I don't want a new game. The last attempt was awful. I'd rather take a remaster or remake with (hopefully) better puzzles, combat and the original voices from the original game (like MediEvil did for their remaster), and leave the franchise at that.
PlayStation 5 was made for games like Soul Reaver - instead of having two planes of existences in memory at the same time - load all the data straight from storage.. It's literally done in a couple of seconds instead of what would be minutes on the previous generation.
I just really hope that, if we get a remake/remaster, the plane shifting will remain a real-time deformation instead of two separate maps that you transition between. This real-time transformation is what made it so cool!
@@XeZrunner 'Deformation' worked on Ps1/ps2 due to tricks and the fact the graphics left a lot to the imagination. I imagine it won't look nearly as good with current gen graphics. With datastreaming there wouldn't be more load time than the transition animation itself I imaginem
Hi, noclip. I just discovered your channel. Love your work. Glad to see you guys are doing well. I loved your bethesda interview video and the one about the making of fallout 76. I'd love to see another Bethesda interview after Starfield comes out. Maybe some behind the scenes too. Also a doc around Elden Ring, Dark Souls games and its publisher would be really great. It's definitely interesting to see how passionate devs are. We sometimes take games for granted and forget how difficult it can get to develop them and how beautiful they truly are when we take the time to appreciate the efforts put into them. Thank you for these great videos. Love your work.
Pretty interesting, i didnt realize about the garbage collection bit. Also i thought the enemies would just respawn when switching to the other realm back and forth. Instead they went for the more realistic approach to have both realms enemies coexisting but one visible at a time.
This was one of the coolest games I ever played, I loved the world shift mechanic and the soul sucking powers. off-topic: can you guys do a retrospective on friggin PEGGLE by PopCap games? How'd they program that last-peg zoom in cam?? Who came up with adding the Ode to Joy?? So satisfying!
I'm going to watch the full video at the weekend as its a long one so I don't know if it gets mentioned but I heard this series never concluded which is a shame as they were excellent games.
It did conclude, but development of the series was weird. The sequel actually is just the rest of the first game, but they didn't have time to finish it, so the first one stops at a cliffhanger. And all of them don't take very long to finish
The series ended, it just didn't wrap everything up. There's strong debate about the ending being "good" or "bad" because of this. Personally, I think the way it ended was poetic, and I'm fine with the ending.
1999 i bought it and played it. Then 2001 if i am not wrong. After amazed the first one i was the happier person in this world by seeing SR2 CD cover. After 5. game we waited for the last game. I made a flash animated website and it was the best design among LOK Fan websites all over the world. After all process to solve the scenario and time, they didnt give us even a chance to finish the serie and the story. We didnt deserve this.
I think Im missing something but is there an actual no clip documentary on soul reaver? I cant find it, if anyone can link it or point me in the right direction that would be appreciated
this game is deified. the nerds tell tales of it. few know the truth. it was made by mortals once; as were we all. their contempt for games of the previous generation drove them to create this game and its bretheren. this is soulreaver, second born of the games in the series.
Superb design etc, just a pity they didn't have the talent to finish it the way Core Design could finish a whole Tomb Raider game every year for 5 years. Soul Reaver was delayed for almost 2 years & still only 2 thirds complete when shipped. They could have learned a lot from those Core guys. Lol (Psst check out how badly Crystal Dynamics dump on Core Design once they adopted the TR franchise. Hint, it's because they were bitterly jealous that they didn't have the talent to imagine a brand new property that captured the publics imagination, since LOK came from Silicon Knights & NOBODY cares about Gex. Lol.) I loved Soul Reaver but I've since learned that F×#k Crystal Dynamics. Self-congratulatory nothing-pissants the lot of them. How embarrassing.
