On this episode of How to Drink, I’m taking a look at a delicious and unique drink known as the Sour Cherry Gin Martinez. A drink that you definitely need in your home bar! I’m happy to be brought to you by Luxardo, and wouldn't you know, they've got a brand new product on the market and you should pick up a bottle. Of course, I'm talking about Sour Cherry Gin, a London Dry style gin that's been infused with the Luxardo Orchard Marasca Cherries, and it's frankly delicious. Get more information over at Luxardo:

You should be able to make a nice cocktail with martini dry vermouth but it can easily overpower the other ingredients. (You might need a touch less than the recipe calls for). I find this makes it bad for things with few ingredients like a martini but decent for things with several ingredients like an El Presidente. I use it for drinks where the complexity of a fancy vermouth like Dolin would get lost in all the other flavours.
@walterbunn280
@walterbunn280 5 лет назад
I have a quick and dirty way to keep that in mind. I don't know how "Historic" the idea is though. Browner the liquor goes with sweeter vermouth. I'd also agree with Greg, that vermouth progressed from sweeter to drier in some weird haphazard fashion. I think people knew they wanted a specific taste for certain types of high proof spirits and different vermouths provided the means to achieve it.

So long as you're not up in their hive, the secret to peaceful coexistence with wasps is to blow on them if they land on you. They get aggressive if you swat at them, but if you blow they think it's just wind and f-off to find a "less windy" person to pester.

An interesting spin on my favourite drink, don't know if I'll be trying it myself though, it'll take a lot to prise me away from my vacuum distilled Sacred gin. Something I like to do is substitute other sweet fortified wines for the vermouth, like Rutherglen Muscat and Pedro Ximenez Sherry, you might not like that if you're not a sweet-tooth like me but I recommend it.

I've been to three gallery openings. Usually the alcohol situation is entirely dependent on what the people sponsoring the opening felt like shelling for. Usually it's Wine/Beer. Sometimes, if you're lucky, there's champagne. Never seen a floating bar. that would be the Primo gallery opening, for certain sure.

What are you thoughts on vermouth in general? How do you compare some of the different brands? I tend to stick with Martini Rossi because... well, I like it... but it's also wicked affordable! My inner cheapskate has kept me from trying some of the more expensive vermouth options. What say ye?
@dannynannady
@dannynannady 5 лет назад
I know you're asking him but from my experience Martini rosso is one of the most versatile and affordable sweet red vermouth's. I have also tried: *Noilly Prat Rouge* Really disliked the taste of this one but maybe that's just me. Was really disappointing considering how much it cost. It just seemed flat in terms of flavour when you compare it to Italian sweet vermouth's. *Punt e Mes* This one is quite unusual as it is remarkably bitter but it does have a wonderful flavour profile. *Carpano Antica Forumula* Arguably one of the best sweet vermouths. Quite spicy and wonderfully complex. It's not super versatile due to it's spiciness but it pairs really well with whiskey (especially rye) and certain rums. A Rye Manhattan made with this vermouth is AMAZING). Well those are the vermouth's I have tried out so far. Hope it helped you a bit!
@jonahford8019
@jonahford8019 5 лет назад
@@dannynannady I'm always open to any input, so thanks! I really do like Martini Rossi a lot, and I've tried one other vermouth before (can't remember the brand, but it was a similar price point to MR, even a little cheaper) and it wasn't bad, it just didn't have any complexity at all. So I've been reluctant to branch out! Haha! But your tasting notes are really helpful.

Results of my experiment: The tonic just does not work with sloe gin. But if you do 2.5 of sloe (I use Plymouth), 1.5 sweet vermouth, 0.25 maraschino, and a couple dashes of bitters, with nothing else added, it tastes AMAZEBALLS.
