In regards to the 9 marines taking on 30 pirates, the American viewpoint isn’t “oh no, we’re outnumbered” it’s more along the lines of “let’s enjoy this target rich environment”
@nonconsensualopinion Agreed...the biggest problem with our government is the fact that the two major political parties actively work against each other. This sort of behavior ensures that our government usually does more harm than good.
I've always been proud to be an American, despite the large amount of my countrymen these days that spew hate for our country, but since discovering Nick and his amazing stories, my pride for my country has inflated massively.
12th Amendment was ratified June 15, 1804. This changed the VP from being the second finishing presidential candidate to the running mate of the running mate of the winning candidate.
Ditto and Ditto........(cheers from Texas)(the comments section is like the military, it doesn't matter where you are, stop a group of soldiers and a couple of them are ALWAYS from Texas)
One thing you might not know is that when American diplomats likes Jefferson spoke Arabic and actually showed all respect required of Islam where they could
The way U.S Presidential elections were originally set up was that the candidate with the most votes would become President, while the candidate with the second-largest number of votes would become Vice President. The idea was that this meant that if anything happened to America's first choice then their second choice would immediately step up to be in charge, but after incidents like this one where the Vice President actively worked against the sitting President because they had opposing platforms from the start, we changed it so that now each Presidential candidate picks their own Vice Presidential candidate who shares their ideology so that the VP won't work against the President or even potentially try to seize power over ideological differences. Which in hindsight is a good idea, because having the opposing party inherit power if the sitting president dies was just a huge incentive for assassination. Like imagine if every time a President got assassinated, it meant the opposition party candidate immediately took over. Now the way the chain of succession is set up, the opposition party won't inherit power unless like SEVERAL people in the line of presidential succession all get killed before the next election.
One US Marine vs ~3 pirates, on average...kinda unfair to the pirates. We have US Marines that, going solo, have taken out 100+ enemy combatants. I'm talking Vietnam, Korea, Mogadishu, Iraq, Afghanistan. I was 19D Cavalry Scout in the US Army but Marines are insane with their strategic and combat skills.
Yeah, we were basically a bunch of militias with barely any coordination, so the British couldn't figure out where we'd be when because *we* didn't know.
@@ernestogastelum9123 "One of the serious problems in planning against American doctrine is that the Americans do not read their manuals nor do they feel any obligations to follow their doctrine." Part of an old joke attributed to a Soviet officer.
You should listen to a song by Johnny Horton called "The Battle of New Orleans". The same war that gave us our National Anthem gave this hilarious song.
In the 18th century the runner-up in the presidential election became vice president. Jefferson had run against Adams in 1796 and lost. After Jefferson beat Adams in 1800 they amended the Constitution so that each elector would cast a vote for president and a separate vote for vice president. The only other sitting vice president who worked against the incumbent's reelection was John Calhoun in the 1820s, and that was super-weird for completely different reasons.
It used to be (back in the Founding Fathers' day) that the runner up in the Presidential race became the VP. In modern terms, in 2016 Hillary Clinton would have been Dona'd Trump's VP. We quickly ended that pactice b/c of the infighting it caused.
Yeah. Like all the people trying to argue that the Founding Fathers didn't intend the Second Amendment to include machine guns and other "military" weapons. Dude, Washington hired his own *personal* fleet of *pirates* during the Revolution and I'm pretty sure at least one other Founding Father had a *warship* that *he owned.* There were also *repeating muskets* back then. Washington wanted his men kitted out with them, but the Continental Congress couldn't afford to. These men were such gun nerds that I'm pretty sure that you could drop them into the 21st century and they'd end up asking why every farmer doesn't have a *tank* sitting behind the barn.
Historicle background. Originally the vice president was the person that came in second place. The vice president was not a running mate. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams were seperate parties.
And then later on we scuttled the USS Maine and pointed the finger at Spain over it-there’s a little historical saying here, Blame the Maine on Spain-where we kicked off the war where we beat their asses and took Puerto Rico and the Philippines, among others.
The VP at the time was no. 2 for pres. so they were opponents until then. This is not in any way strange or anything they didn't know would happen eventually.
Kinda interesting how Prez's T Jeff and J Mad hate pirates so much, as (future Prez) Andrew Jackson actually uses pirates (Jean Lafitte's people) to win the Battle of New Orleans.
Back during this time the President and VP didn't run on the same ticket. Whoever won the most electoral votes would become president and the runner up would be VP. So usually the President and VP were on opposite sides of the political spectrum during this time. It changed with the passing of the 12th Amendment. But yeah, the VP hasn't run against the sitting President since like the early 1800s.
Back then the vice president wasnt chosen by the president the one who got the 2nd amount of votes in the election was the vice president. Now the president choses his VP
You have to understand that back then, the runner up in the presidential election was the vice president, so not really in lock step with the president
Back then the VP (vice president) was the loser of the election - so we're talking split party loyalties right off the bat. Not sure when that changed (hold up - googling now) OK - 1804 with the 12th Amendment. Don't look at it as outnumbered. Look at it like, "Wherever you swing your sword you won't miss!"
You said, "only the 2nd presidential REIGN." I think you nailed modern USA political issues in that statement. Our politicians have forgotten they are elected to SERVE, not reign. I am glad I am old, and won't live to see much more of the BS going on now. Our government not supporting Ukraine financially, the political infighting is embarrassing, ex-president frump insulting our allies, etc.
...Not financially supporting Ukraine? Since when? If we weren't supporting them they'd have been overrun years ago. Also Trump is the last president to harp on the fact that politicians serve, not rule. But you wouldn't know that if you never listen to what he actually says and just read the media talking points.
Come on over to America and become a tax paying citizen!! That's the beauty of being American. We give our great history to anyone!!--black, white, yellow, green,😂 even South African.
8:45 First off, I object to the use of the word overthrow. The situation with Thomas Jefferson and John Adams is that TJ went about it in the legal and civilized manner. He campaigned and talked with people to gain their support in ELECTING him in the next Election. NOT to violently insurrect the sitting or incoming President. There's polar opposites in the methodologies used by Thomas Jefferson and Donald Trump.
