I've had season tickets to Michigan since 2012. First as a student, now as an alum. Game days are insane especially for the biggest rivalry in all of sports against ohio, which we've won the past 3 years in a row. This past year we won over 1000 games in program history, no team has won more and winning the National Championship was the cherry on top!

When they play "Jump Around", the Geology Department registers a 3.2 magnitude earthquake on their seismic instruments! Colleges go HARD for their teams and they are 1,000% "ride or die" fans. Even when you suck, they're behind you.

The best compliment an NFL crowd can get is, "it was like a college atmosphere"

Brother, College Football is KING in America. Over 100 division 1 schools and every weekend whole communities and student bodies show up as well as alumni and fans from every part of the country. College rivalries go back 100 years or more in many areas.

Enter the Sandman is Virginia Tech. The full name is Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. The reason you see students in military uniforms is that they also teach students who want to became US military officers. The first year is tough especially during meals. The cadets have to square their meals. When they eat in the dining halls, they have to move their fork or spoon forward, up, and then straight to their mouths. They're monitored by their instructors as the instructors are eating their meals, too.

Florida State Seminoles have the best atmosphere and pregame. Nothing compares. They have a person all donned in Chief Osceola gear (approved by the actual Seminole tribe nation) and riding annappaloosa horse (those gorgeous spotted horses w crazy coloring) and hes holding a spear w the back end on fire. He plants it in the field at midfield while Renegade (the horse) raises up on 2 legs. SOOOO FUCKING EPIC.

College football has intense rivalries unlike any other sport in the country. The Michigan-Ohio State rivalry has been referred to as the most intense in college football for years. Michigan Stadium capacity is officially 107,601 but actual attendance has been over 110,000. I’ve been attending games there since the 1970’s, before lights were installed for night games. The view in the video was from the student section in which, of course, partying is the norm. Chants of bulls#1t will ring out when referees call penalties against Michigan.

WE ARE.... PENN STATE! 2nd Largest stadium in the country. What you are looking at is the "White Out" (our colors are Blue and White). It is an annual event, and the very first tradition of the type. Starting more work on the Beaver Stadium at the end of the 2024 season.

Friday night is when high school football plays because Saturday night is College football and Sunday night is NFL. In America sport is an ENTERTAINMENT EVENT, not just idiots on a field for a spell and everyone goes home. In Texas, A&M and UT both hold around 105k - 107k each and the Rose bowl hold 92k and is used for one game a year, the rest of college's hold 40k-60

Mississippi State University alumnus here. You haven’t heard LOUD until you've heard 50k+ cowbells ringing in unison. Most opposing teams and fans leave wirh their ears ringing for days!!

The second stadium is University of Tennessee, Neyland Stadium, holds right around 102,000 people. The goal post that was being taken out of the stadium was after Tennessee beat Alabama after years of defeat.The fans stormed the field and took down the goal post,out of the stadium,and threw it in the Tennessee River.

Another Michigan fan here. Attended every home game from 1969 to 2009 (my mother attended every home game from 1952 to 2009, including through four pregnancies. We take our football *seriously*) The stadium will often distribute yellow pompoms (yellow paper attached to a stick) for the fans to wave during the games. Typically they just leave one on every seat, rather than hold up the line giving them out at the entrance.

As a University of Michigan graduate, I support the National Championship Football Team of Michigan. Had season tickets for many years as a student and after graduation. Also been to the Rose Bowl in California to watch them play. Being in the stadium is an electrifying experience. Yes the stadium is huge and the fans loud.

Here's something crazy for your to consider, that "Jump Around" song played at Wisconsin gets everyone in the stadium to jump up and around (very obviously). However, when there's 80,000 people jumping up and down, you can feel it from miles away.

College Football is a way of Life in America, I live in Gainesville a small Town in Florida and we have the Florida Gators the Traditions run DEEP in this Town. The College Gameday is experience is something you have to feel yourself it is Amazing

Yes the 2nd one where they are singing Rockytop is Tennessee. Its orange and white and is Neyland Stadium. It holds 101,915 fans and is my wife's alma mater. And my state college that I and my dad rooted for as a kid.

I was fortunate enough to get the chance to suit up and get hit during the tail end of the Big East Conference. When you are like 19-20 years old playing in front of 30-50,000 people it is the coolest thing in the world. My highscool in Massachusetts we got maybe 200-300 people at our big games if we were killing that season and they were mostly our parents and friends so stepping out onto Rentschler field with nearly 40,000 spectators was a fever dream. Most of the kids on the field know we will never make it as a pro, but we have a chance to get one hell of an education and it is one hell of an experience that is more than worth having. College football is a unique experience for fans, students, the locals, alumni and the players. I think most people that play college ball have the same feeling that it was without a doubt one of the best moments of your life but you have no desire to go through the process again because it is hard and a lot of work. Football isnt just about the sport its the community the legacy and the people you meet its an experience as much as it is a sport and an event. NCAA football is one of the few sports that is honest about what it is and that is a good time. Its wildly talented amateur athletes.

And speaking of atmospheres, check out one of the best halftimes shows ever, done by the Michigan Band ...... in the dark ..... with lights on their hats and lasers on the field. Jump Around (by House of Pain btw, not Kris Kross, who had a similarly named song) at Wisconsin is probably the most fun for the crowd there, but in my opinion, the Wisconsin crowd singing Buttercup after the stadium speakers quit playing and all you hear is the crowd is probably much more impressive. There are some good clips of that on youtube.

Fun fact. The Florida State Seminoles created a special pre-game cocktail, and drank it before their biggest rival game of the year....the Florida Gators. A drink originally known as "Seminole Fire Water"...later to be known as "Gatorade".

I was at the Michigan game that you showed in the first clip. People were given yellow pom poms to wave during the game. Yes Michigan Stadium holds, 115,000 people. Michigan went 15-0 this past year and won the National Championship! Go Blue!

I went to Purdue so go Boilermakers, their men's basketball team is in first place.

I’m not affiliated with the school, but I live within walking distance of one of the biggest college football stadiums in the country. It’s crazy on game night! Traffic is miserable, roads closed everywhere, and I can hear fireworks go off over my TV or music.

Alabama's Dixie Land Delight is the 2nd best to Michigan's Mr. Brightside. I got to hear both at the Rosebowl this year! Best game of my life.

As a alumni of The Ohio State University I have been to several Buckeyes games and love it, with Script Ohio being unrivaled. OH......IO! Penn State's white out is impressive. The start of the fourth quarter at Camp Randle (Jump around) is a great tradition. Also recommend you watch a Rock chalk video during a Kansas Jayhawks basketball game. It is nuts!

Some people may have already commented on this but high school football is also big throughout the US. The high schools have marching bands like the colleges.

You missed out on seeing the Ohio State marching band perform script Ohio or the drum major get the crowd going with the entrance run onto the field. Tradition at its finest.

I'm a Michigan fan myself GO BLUE!, but I wish the video would've had my favorite crowd environment which is LSU's "Neck." Don't play it too often because they'll get fined, but when they're good they'll bring it out its always a good time. STTDB!

And just to clarify if there was any confusion that when we say college, it's a catch-all term for University. Meaning 18-22 year olds...traditionally of course. American School System is broken down into basically four levels. Well, five if you wanna count Pre-school or Pre-K. (It's also known as nursery school in some parts, and is for 3 to 4 year olds.) But official schooling starts with Elementary School, which depending on the School district can include up to 7 "Grades" or "Years" as you might know them as. Elementary Schools start at Kindergarten (K) to either 5th or 6th Grade. So it'd run K, 1st, 2nd...5th and/or 6th Grade. Basically 5 to 11 year Olds. Then depending on where the district splits the schools, you have what is called either Middle School or Junior High. They contain Grades 6 thru 8 or just 7 & 8. Ages 11 to 13. When I was that age, we had a Junior High that only incorporated Grades 7 & 8. But since then a new bigger Middle School was built and they moved 6th Grade to it as well. The two Elementary schools in town were actually divided up,as well. One School took K thru 2nd Grade, and the other 3rd thru 5th Grade. Thrn we have High School, and they almost always contain four Grades, 9th thru 12th. Ages 14 thru 18. The Grades are also known as Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior. This same naming convention is used in College/University levels as well. Colleges can be 2 or 4 year establishments. 2 year colleges are for General Studies and jobs that require onky 2-year certificates or degrees, otherwise known as Associates Degrees. Nursing is a big one that only requires 2-year degrees. CNAs and LPNs only require 2-year degrees. Then you have your 4-year Universities that incorporate those basic General Studies course in them as well. You get your Bachelors, Masters, or PhDs in these Universities. Most people who go on to get post-graduate degrees transfer to other Universitiss for better prestige or credentials, I guess. Traditional college students, straight out of High School are ages 18-22. But of course anybody of any age can enroll in college. And I often found that I associated better with the older adult students when I was going to college because I would hang out with my parents friends a lot more than my fellow School mates. Funny that... And then on a personal anecdote, when I was a student at my university, I worked a student job at Campus Mail. This was back in the mid-90s when the Internet was just coming online. So we were still dealing with lots of physical mail pieces then. I imagine that a lot of the mail we used to deal with 30 years ago, is now digital in some way, and the mail is mostly packages and stuff like that. Then 10 years after I graduated, I took a job at my old Junior College as a Computer Lab Monitor/Supervisor from 2005-2008. And they let me go when student traffic into the lab wasn't enough to warrant keeping it open during the Night Shift (I worked the Night Shift 4-8pm.) I argue to this day that the invention of the iPhone in 2007 killed the need for computer labs, as most students would only use the lab for checking email, MySpace, and RU-vid. Well, anyway...there ya go... Hope that helps in understanding the American education system.

The video you saw at Penn State was a white out game. Everyone wears white and when you are entering the stadium they hand you a white pompom for the game. The big S in the stadium is the Senior section (last year at the University). We had season tickets for the football home games. We would drive our RV up on a Friday, park in the designated field across from the stadium stadium, have our tailgating before the game on Saturday for our son,who was attending Penn State , and all of his friends and after walk to the stadium for the game. Sunday we would pack up the RV and drive back home. It was a party to be sure.👍🏻

American football is crazier than you could imagine, on SO many levels, but truth is: I’m a dyed in the wool fan of the University of Oklahoma whose stadium only holds 84K.

In Texas we have 3 stadiums with a capacity of 100K+ (if AT&T stadium/Dallas Cowboys opens their standing room pit). The other two have that much seating... Kyle Field/Texas A&M and Darrel Royal Stadium/Uni of Texas. These two college teams played their first game against each other in 1894 and have a loooong rivalry. Gig 'em Aggies!

We have a really large country in terms of geography. College Football has been around much longer than the NFL. The NFL started in 1920. 3 teams exist today that were around when the league started. The Cardinals, which were founded in 1898, the Packers which were founded in 1919, and the Bears which were founded in 1920. The Packers weren't one of the original teams, as they didn't join the league until 1921. The Bears signing of Red Grange, who was a star at the University of Illinois, in 1925 was helpful for the league. By 1960 the NFL had 13 teams, having just added the Dallas Cowboys. The AFL was also founded that year, and had 8 teams. Those leagues would merge in 1970. The first Super Bowl was played after the 1966 season beween the Packers and Chiefs. Super Bowl I didn't sell out. Packers 35 Chiefs 10 was the final score, Packers never trailed. The first score in a Super Bowl was a pass from Bart Starr to Max McGee. It was a 1 handed catch of a pass that was behind him. McGee was filling in for Boyd Dowler, who had been injured earlier in the game. Today the NFL has 32 teams. The first College game was between Princeton and Rutgers, on November 6, 1869. Rule changes like Down and Distance were added before the NFL existed. It was added to College Football in 1882. The offense had 3 downs to make 5 yards or lose possession. This was modified in 1906 to 10 yards in 3 downs, and the forward pass was also added. 1912 added 4th down. College Football has 4 levels D1-FBS, D1-FCS, D2, and D3. There are 134 teams in D1-FBS. We don't have promotion and relegation in our sports. Most states have at least 1 D1-FBS team, fewer than 1/2 of all states have an NFL team, some states have more than one.

i always cheer for the old alma mater Uni of Texas. In the football season I also cheer for a few other small schools that you will never hear of. From one in the Ivy league to another way out West. You can usually find someone to cheer for in any game.

UGA and GATECH... University of Georgia and Georgia Tech! We love our college football! Professional football is great BUT college football is way more exciting! The rules are a little different. It's just way more exciting to watch people not getting paid millions of dollars. Plus, they really try much harder I think. It's just more fun and you see many more surprises!

We have college football in Canada. The English schools in Montreal (McGill and Concordia) are usually trash, while Laval and U de Montreal (two of the top French schools in Montreal) are always contenders to make the Vanier Cup (our equivalent to the CFB Playoffs). I haven't been to a football game, but I've seen McGill's hockey team back when they were called the Redmen.

For the last 9 seasons, i have worked at the University of Michigan big house, on game days. To answer your question, they occasionally hand out yellow 'pom poms' (as well as promote a "maize out") for certain big prime time games.

Wisconsin alumna. Back in the 1980s we were throwing beer and passing people up the stadium rows. Fortunately no one went over the top. Now they do Jump Around. After the game, the Badger Band does a "Fifth Quarter" and the whole stadium shakes Great traditions.

10:14 We called it Square Dancing (because the step by step always ended up in a square). Swing your partner round and round, do-see-do then take a bow (Sound Off 1, 2, Sound Off 3, 4 cadence) We learned how to do it in grade school PE (physical education) class, which is also where we learned to skateboard on a square with four wheels and make an air balloon out of an auditorium sized parachute by the entire class hand waving it up and down until we got air lift. Then we’d all run underneath it as it was collapsing to be inside it as the air escaped at our feet. Those who held onto the edge of the chute with their hands the whole time got an ‘atta boy’.😂

Usually before a game, cheerleaders work the crowd getting everyone hyped up before the game.

University of Michigan is known as 'the Big House' & is the largest stadium in the Western Hemisphere & 3r in the world. Alumni buy season tickets for themselves & put their newborns on waiting lists for season tickets for them as well. College football is serious stuff for us Americans& U of M is my team.

Great job! The song at Virginia Tech was Enter Sandman by Metallica. There are so many great college stadiums and fanbases that its hard to go wrong. My personal favorites are the overall atmosphere at Notre Dame, the beginning of the 4th quarter at Louisville's Ali breaking into Joker & the Thief by Wolfmother, and Oregon State's new stadium with their chainsaws. Like I said, there is a lot of variety and quality atmosphere at these games and virtually every one has their own highlights.

As a yell leader for four yrs. I think almost all college games don't serve alchol. MIZZOU v Illinois basketball at the Keil Center in st Louis was 1 exception, and I think Colorado served Coors beer at it was their sponsor. That was awhile back though.

You were right about it being Wisconsin. The song is jump around by house of pain. The crowd jumps up and down in unison and the tradition was banned because they shook the ground so much that it would trigger the seismic gauges. The crowds wouldn't allow it to be banned. So it's still the tradition.

Second clip is Tennessee Vols. Specifically the Vols vs Alabama game where Vols broke a 15 year losing streak to Bama hence why people went mad.

What you were looking at was the student section, and yes they get handed out pom poms. Most schools pass out something of the like for the students because they are always regarded as the loudest and most passionate part of the stadium. Also for Penn state the S in the crowd represents the student section and the surrounding crowd are students

i first started at idaho state in my home town, then i got my masters at san diego state and my PhD at unc the university of north carolina which i had the best time and pretty much the best college basketball team in the states
