Joins us as we ride the mixed from Pretoria to Magaliesburg behind 24 Class No. 3675. This video represents a few "firsts" for me... My first attempt at filming a train (no tripod, random zooming!), my first trip with Friends of the Rail - a group I was to get heavily involved with over the next 10 years, and my first steam cabride! Although the quality of this clip is not that good, this line is now gone and the loco is rusting at Voorbaai...

Never traveled on this journey, but caught the train as it arrived in Magaliesburg many times. Always a great treat for me and my children. Thank you so much for sharing this with us all.

Thanks! Those were the days. There were often trains to Magaliesburg from Pretoria and Jo'burg on the same day!

South Africa - one of the last great strongholds of steam power on the rails. Such capable but handsome locomotives were built to work on the Cape gauge there. Great 👍 video and I like the Vanderbilt type tenders on these engines.

My first steam train ride was behind a Class 24 on the line from George to Knysna in 1980. Of course I don't remember the loco number, but I might try to look at some pictures my mother took on that day.

That is an amazing line, you're lucky to have ridden it!
