I'm a big fan of Japanese Tenkara fishing. I have two Tenkara rods, but I also have the Crappie Stalker I also have a ten foot Black Widow. and a 16.5 foot Cabela's Crappie pole.. In many instances, these work as well or better than the actual Tenkara rods. I particularly like the Black Widow and the Cabela's Crappie Pole because both are very light, and I can use either just as I would use a regular walking stick. I have replaced the end stopper on both with actual cane tips, and often use them just this way when I go for a walk through locations where I might find a spot to fish. I also take along a haversack that contains a fishing kit, and a few one gallon slide lock freezer bags to bring home any catch I want to keep. If I know for certain that I'll find a spot to fish, I slip a dozen worms or grubs in the haversack, and probably a lunch, as well. I'm old, and wear out fast, so I usually hang a very lightweight, folding camping chair, and if I know I'll be gone awhile, this chair goes along, as well. It weighs just over one pound, has a cross body strap, and carrying it doesn't bother me at all. This is all easier when I ride a bike. I have a small pull behind cargo trailer that makes taking whatever I need easy, even if I want to camp for two or three nights. Unfortunately, my balance isn't what it once was, so I think I'll have to buy a good three wheeler this spring, and go back to riding a tricycle like I did when I was three. I save the actual Tenkara rods for camping or fishing trips with one of my sons, and I love using them. I love using all these rods. Anyway, sorry to ramble on like this, but I do enjoy your videos, and can relate to much of what you do, and how you do it. Keep up the good work.

I highly recommend Tenkara rods...I have one that expands to almost 12ft - a shorter rod than the typical Tenkara. I use it now for almost all of my dry fly fishing for trout in the Smokies - much more convenient than standard fly fishing tackle. I would like to use it around here, maybe out of a kayak, for bream and sac-a-lait.

This is pole fishing. There is a big difference between pole fishing and Tenkara fiahing.

Yeah I am more into Tenkara fishing then pole fishing. To a degree they are the same thing then they become 2 different things. Some of that Uk pole fishing stuff is too over sized for me and it's so product driven. I love fishing not accessory hell.

I'll stick with my tenkara rods... the longest I have is 12 feet and weighs just 3 ½ ounces. Four pound, 4 ounce peacock bass is my largest fish... 4# test leaders. Keep it simple, keep it fun.

For 1.25 I can buy 12 live minnows. Imagine how long that rod and set up would take to pay for itself. It would be worn out by time it cough that many. U can cut a piece of bamboo longer and bigger for free

Why go fishing at all? You can buy a box of fish sticks for a few dollars....

Good luck riding a bike or even fitting that bamboo into a car. I think you're missing the point.

What’s with the Japanese obsession?
@jamesaritchie1
@jamesaritchie1 5 лет назад
What's with the anti Japanese obsession? Every country has great things, many of which are related to culture, Japan more than most Sometimes how you do something means more than the thing itself, whether it's fishing, woodworking, art, or you name it. In Japan, everything is this way, from your nine to five job, to the way you relax after work. My favorite fountain pens are Maki-e, made in Japan. The artists who create the designs on these pens often have to work for twenty years before being allowed to attempt creating the art on one fountain pen. The resulting pens ca cost up to fifteen thousand dollars. Many westerners think this is an outrageous price for a pen. Westerners often think twenty bucks is an outrageous price for a pen. My two favorite Maki-e fountain pens cost seven thousand each. I think this price is dirt cheap. Woodworking and fishing are much the same way. The time, the effort, the method, and the unbelievable skill matter more than the final, superbly masterful wood product, , or the fish you catch, which may be half an inch long because micro fishing is a true sport in Japan. It's all about a philosophy of life that says living itself is the goal, and how you live your life matters far more than any long term, elusive dream or goal that may mean nothing when and if you finally achieve it.
