The great thing about these YES covers by this band (and I’ve watched them all) is that their measure of success is not all about how well the singer can or cannot pretend to be Jon Anderson. She’s not pretending, she doesn’t need to, the whole band has everything nailed anyway and with their own vital musical energy. Stunningly good! Respect to all of you!
@keithwilliams8342
@keithwilliams8342 Год назад
Agreed. They are the best so far. The worst is when people try to cover bands and fall short. Band geeks have a VERY high standard. And we all benefit from that standard. Sure. Nobody can be bill, or rick. But the synergy pulls the performance through the gap such that even purists like myself are greatful for their efforts. And i think the vocals are excellent!

Her voice is just so bad though it really does ruin these covers, it would sound better if it wasn’t Disney princess Yes , corny ass voice

one valid criticism tho: she completely misses the same passion and urgency of Jon Anderson
@waynemyers2469
@waynemyers2469 7 месяцев назад
@waltzsofa1602 How come nobody can just say it: Anderson sang like a girl...that's why the young lady can do it so effortlessly, she kind of just sings. Anyway, you guys are really a revelation for someone like me, I'm 70 years old and sometimes I feel irrelevant and, well, old. My clothes are old and my knees are old and my prostate has graduated from being something I couldn't have pointed to on an anatomical chart when I was 25 to something that comes to my attention twice a night, around 1:00 A.M. and again at 5:00. But here's the real problem: My music seems like it gets up and goes to the bathroom with me and that just ain't right. There's an album called "The Caretaker", It was written and performed by a guy who wanted folks to know what it might feel like to have alzheimers: It starts out sounding like the music my father listened to but ended (the album was around 3 hours long) up sounding like someone kicked a piano down a mountainside
@waynemyers2469
@waynemyers2469 7 месяцев назад
Listen, this is how old I am, I didn't even know I'd posted this comment, that's why it ended so abruptly and we were left falling down a mountain with a piano crashing along beside us...I am your stereotypical "tech-moron". Anyway, you and I are allowed to differ in our opinions and in the end you're probably closer to the truth than I am even though, if you reread your comment, you'll realize that you kind of contradicted yourself. Anyway, I'm sure we both agree that this band is friggin' amazing and I'm going to check out their other covers right now. (While I have your attention, let me ask a question: Was Geddy Lee in a different band a couple years before Rush? I ask because I'd heard a band once who had a singer with EXACTLY the same voice as Mr. Lee, I can't even remember the name of the band but I do recall the name of the song he sang, it was called Natchez Trace...do you know who that might have been? Be gentle with your answer, I may be suffering from a slight touch of Dementia and it wouldn't be nice to mess with a guy in my condition.) 😉 *I had to come back and confess something: In my concerning and swiftly advancing "brain-fog" I got mixed-up about who we were discussing, I asked you a question about Rush while this song is by YES. I am a knuckle-head, sorry. Peace.

I've now watched this video about 20 times. This is actually BETTER than the recorded live versions by YES. Andy totally nails the drum parts so damn well, but more important, he plays them CORRECTLY. This song, and so many of the early YES songs are VERY much dependent on Bruford's jazz style to make them just "that much more special". White has his straight-up interpretations of the early stuff, but there are some songs that need the jazzy rhythms to back it all up. Even when the jazziness is ghosting, it's still there, and by gum, we can hear it, and will tell you how important it is. The jam at end is so much fun. What an wonderful gang of A+++ musicians!!!

Man did they add some energy to this great song or what! Every instrument including the voices was just fabulous. What musicians!

As a guitarist myself, one of the complaints I have about anyone covering a song is lack of attack or energy and commitment to the sound. Richie, you do not hold back and are amazingly fluid. Mucho kudos. Also like the heavy metal crunch. Nice touch.

ive always felt like the interlude in the middle section is when the narrator is dying of hypothermia on a cliff or when he fell into a crevasse on the side of everest. and the gates of heaven open up and the pain goes away and you fly far far away to the next place. this may seem like an odd place to offer my interpretation of the song but when i watched you guys totally conquer and dominate that (along with the rest of the song) i thought about how i could possibly sit in on bass and hold it together. but like your bassist, i cant sing well enough to touch those harmonies, so id have to sit there and just listen and play, and id probably burst into tears because to even be in that room and hear that piano and those vocals is just too much, it is the most beautiful thing in the world. i just about cried sitting here listening. so great job, and take that compliment well becasue i have listened to this song at least 1000 times.
