The greatest railroad ever, I wish that UP merger would have went the other way with the Espee staying intact. The Espee was a unique railroad that no others could match and I miss it dearly. #SP4EVER
Technically that is kind of how it happened. UP’s owner bought SP, and merged the UP into the SP. Then SP changed their name, as Union Pacific is such a historic name. This is also what happened with Missouri Pacific, MP bought UP, and all MP employees took over UP, then MP changed their name to UP.
