What an enlightening discussion between two eminent economists. We are certainly on the path to a majoritarian society, where other communities could be reduced to second-hand citizens. The thought of one religion, one language is worrisome for several people. Our opposition parties, alas, are groping in the dark, can't find a common minimum programme to agree on or a leader amongst themselves. In that scenario, if the current dispensation decides on 'Parties Todo' to form Governments in non-BJP ruled States, there is not even a weak cry from amongst our opposition. After Maharashtra, Goa is the latest example. Of course, in the latter case, Goa was already under the BJP but with a wafer-thin majority. So, the move to buy out Congress legislators. And the sad truth is that this is all considered legal! Obviously, it doesn't suit the Government to amend the existing law, to make it water-tight right now. Later, perhaps, when most of the "elected" legislators will belong to the current dispensation. 😥

It gives some sort of positivity when we listen to such learned people otherwise the present scenario is really very very disturbing.I could listen to Mr Prabhakar after a long break.Anyways always would love to know his point of view

Central government and the double engine states reflect the deterioration of federalism when the States heads and chief ministers are changed and ministers installed at the whims and fancies of the center, though the state legislature is independently elected body and the state people should decide who should be what. It was a trickle pre 2014, now it's midnight moves in a flood and from print media next day do we realize an event has happened.

One language? That's what split Pakistan. The West Pakistan wanted to impose Urdu on the Bengali speaking East Pakistan. What is the BJP planning for Bharat?

We need more discussion ,debates and participation in people's movement.So that ideas can be assimilated to the needs of common people.

What is the economic impact on the southern states after the merger of State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Travancore, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Maharashtra etc. with the State Bank of India.

Valid points expressed. One language, one religion imposition to divide Indian people instead of binding except for political advantages. Freebees given to States which are not contributing as much as they received and suppression of some States corporates and benefiting only few corporates of some States only also because of partisans politics. Discussions need to bring the truth out to open eyes of politicians and their supporters or some hypocrites of States ready to praise power

Also a farmer is charged 12% interest on his loans whereas a car loan is charges 7/8% Is not the farmer subsidising the car owners at 7 or 8 percent interest? That's for banks to declare.

india will be best when Tamil Nadu/Kerala the south are Independent Countries. As will reunion of Greater Bangla. West and Bangladesh. NE. Kashmir/Khalistan. As well the cow belt for rss and hindutva.. Germany/France/Italy/Spain/Greece.......separate countries part of of a union. UK can leave no conflict.

Current geographical and political boundaries of Sub Continent are not reasonable. South India, North India and East India are three separate entities, we have been saying that religion is not the only binding factor, so current India is basically three countries with so many inequalities.

Gentlemen a union is by choice never forced. GST is going to destroy the union. It should have been a state tax. Only income tax should be a tax of the centre. This would have resulted in more employment because the center has incentive.

India needs transparency in currency distribution by implementing digital currency no cash. And salaries should be regualed. Even unemployed old age pension and universal basic minimum income and free health care and free education should be implemented. Everything should be done through digital.
