DDR was most loyal ally but that traitor gorbachev betrayed east germany. It took years of hard work and millions of lives to build a superpower like the USSR but to destroy it, only two traitors were enough.
It is OK, but misaligned with human nature. Utopia. And Soviet leaders were not commies, trust me. Stalin, for instance, was an imperialist, just like his vis-a-vis at the time. Khruschev was a true capitalistic socialist. And was removed for that.
What was the use of having an army of 5 million soldiers and 50,000 tanks when not even one of them came forward to defend the Soviet Union in 1991 ? Didn’t they all take an oath to defend the Soviet Union and the working class when they joined the army ? The soviet military could have the union but they decided to become oligarchs.
Wir Russen haben euch Deutsche außeinander genommen. "Erbärmlicher Mist" dein ganzes Land Können wir weg werfen. Wenn uns jemand was antun will schrecken wir nicht zurück.
We did... The largest Military in fact. We had a potential 40 Million Manpower (17 Million active and the rest as reserves). We spent 35 % of our GDP into the military. You can call this dumb, but you can't deny that that is a big military. Please don't go off just the cold war mentality and actually you know, research some things. Thank you. Don't be ignorant.
@SNR Soviets spent 15% of their GDP on military. The soviet army had 5 million soldiers and 6.3 million reserves, 55000 tanks, 94000 AFVs, 50000 artillery pieces, 13400 aircraft, 800 ships, 300 submarines and 40,000 nuclear weapons. They were very strong but not as much as you think. US was just little bit weaker than them and entire NATO combined could have defeated USSR.
