Was standard def TV just so bad at the time and we didn't realize it....back in the days when we had only 3 tv channels.

I think your willingness to "play" with effects beyond what's necessarily reasonable and the fact that you're able to make such compelling content on such a "young" RU-vid channel are related phenomena. This had an uncanny authenticity to it. I think that your camera control contributes a lot: It never feels like a game cam: some shots feel like an amateur handheld, some feel like they're mounted to an aircraft, some "set pieces" with the fancy tripod and several takes, some stuff that's just cctv feed that I'm glancing up at from a dark room in the depths of the hull... That you can evoke all of that so indirectly is a real talent.

@@ezekielward397 I appreciate the comment. I guess it stems from growing up watching movies like Top Gun, Red Dawn and The Hunt For The Red October. Everything was a practical effect and every shot was grounded. Looks more correct. No Impossible shots. That plus this modern trend of NATOWAVE SOVIETWAVE.

Nah, I disagree. I get why he did it. In focus would look very obviously fake and kill the "80s VHS" vibe. Also, tapes from that time look like shit, we're just not used to it anymore.
