Farmers are on the front lines of the climate crisis.
As they face the challenges of changing weather, drought and floods, farmers across B.C. are also dealing with issues of farmland access and protection.
At the end of February, we partnered with the @National Farmers Union to host the B.C. Farmland Convergence. This gathering saw farmers from the NFU, @Young Agrarians, @Fraser Common Farm Coop, @Glorious Organics, @UBC farm, @Athiana Acres, @Richmond Sharing Farm, and the @KPU farming practicum, come together to share thoughts and experiences from across British Columbia.
The group developed an action plan to build a coalition, survey farmers across the province to gather data on their priority issues, and committed to learn from Indigenous leaders and move forward in solidarity.
If you are interested in becoming involved or know an individual or a group that you think the Farmland Committee should connect with, please reach out. In the meantime, the committee will move forward with putting out a survey to farmers, so stay tuned.
