they thought it would be the marines because for some insane reason maybe 30% of the time in fiction, the navy has control over all space operations. It's probably because the writer heard 'space ship' and got the imagery of a giant sailboat being flung through space
@@Gogglesofkrome Well sci-fi space ships are much more like giant ship ships than planes, the Air Force types don't have a clue how to operate a vessel that's supposed to be self-sufficient for months at a time acting as both a living space and combat platform. It makes way more sense for the Navy and Marines to operate in space with those types of ships, but in our reality Space Force is just a bunch of nerds dealing with satellites so who really cares. I swear to God though, when we get badass space warships they better just dismantle Space Force and come up with something cool. The United States Space Command sounds way better, then we can have under them a space Navy for the ships, space Army, and space Marines for sweet orbital landings. The air and space force can get fucked because they're redundant when the space Navy is already carrying around their own fighter and attack spacecraft.
So, I went to BMT at the 326th in 2021, and I saw the Space Force guys from time to time. idk if there was some sort of wardrobe malfunction, but their TI was wearing PTUs every time at graduation practice. He looked like a total fuckin joke, and considering they were the only section in the entire base that trained new guardians, it left a bad impression on the entire branch. At least had the decency to not wear the campaign hat.
Space force is more likely to evolve into navy like organization, while a marine like organization (or just the marines directly) will be used for direct engagement

My school stopped mine after my class . We took it to the next level to get the gold smashing ppls faces into the bars to get a head did swinging drop kicks we even had a kid do a rock bottom from the starting line then took off running . Now I weep for the soft generations of today

I know this is supposed to be funny....but as someone who went through Army basic training in Kentucky (19 kilo tank crewman) in 2001, this makes me sad. We were rolling left, rolling right in the damn snow and sand pits every time the Drill could. Muscle failure and then some. One of our Drill sergeants would yell so loud so much his voice would go out every once in a while. I loved basic because I thought every day how the f am I going to make it to graduation, and I adapted and overcame. Gives me a sense of pride how hard it was. Saw guys twice my size break down and cry at our obstacle course :)

I think the two of the most intense experiences i ever had during my conscription service was once getting my helmet blown off my head by a flying piece of shrapnel and getting shot in the face point blank (Using blank rounds) during an exercise. Neither of which affects my ability to sleep at night lmao

The thing is the coastguard is actually fucking useful, very very useful as a matter of fact, if you get stranded at sea or some suit goes down they are the guys who rescue your ass, then again it might just be me living in a coastal state

As retired AF SF, this is painful. In 87 they sent us pipeline to fort dix for 6 weeks of Army led combat training just for good measure. Not to mention the Marines ran half of our tech school. Wtf...

to be fair the only thing their gonna do for the next 20-30 years is gonna be sit in an office and check the weather realistically speaking we’re nowhere near advanced enough to require a large amount of austronauts right now they’re only handling satellites and weather so not much need for physical condition And the austronauts come from the air force or navy they’re the ones with the planes and experience tl;dr : they’re glorified office workers

I actually feel bad for the recruits, this is supposed to train them and their instructors are treating this like a joke. I don’t know how I could stay motivated when my instructors aren’t screaming.
They’ll never deploy to a combat zone and will most likely never hold a rifle after basic. The talent and skill set required for the space force are ones highly sought after in the civilian world. These kids could go make 100k+ working in IT. I think the solar winds hand shows how important their role is.

they should have had marine drill instructors in training. the one ling i loved about joining USMC is that it is so much different and more effective that if you moved to a different branch you did not have to go through basic again. but if you come from any branch into the USMC you need to complete USMC basic

Space Force is pretty small in size right now. If Biden doesn't undo this as a separate branch, maybe they'll adopt the "star fleet" term after the space commands within the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps merge into them.
