The website Military.com published an article where numerous high ranking Army Officers and Enlistedmen suggested changes in the way Drill Sergeants instruct trainees in BCT (Basic Combat Training). The article went on to say "yelling, screaming and throwing trash cans" are no longer effective measures in the tutelage of basic trainees. Angry Drill SGT disagrees.

The transition for comedic anger to passionate anger at the end was perfect and 1000% correct and justified
@StrifeA217
@StrifeA217 Год назад
Hes not wrong. I try not to think about it because its too easy to get worked up but that kinda rage is real and justified. The Military has 3 primary missions and everything else is secondary to it. 1. Put bodies in the ground. 2. Support the people pulling the triggers and dropping the bombs. 3. Train to do the first two. Everything else comes secondary to those objectives. If your not a door kicker that doesn't mean your job isnt important because what you do allows them to do what they do.

My family and myself are thankful for those Drill Sergeants as their harsh and stressful lessons ensured my brothers, sisters as well as myself, came back home. As stated by others, its about breaking you from your habit of being a single entity and joining a TEAM. When I heard about stress cards in 93 as a Ssg, I was totally perplexed. I could imagine now without yelling when were training against Ivan and China or whomever the foe is; like they will wait for our troops to be settled down and be able to attack when we are ready! This drives me nuts to watch. No wonder they waited until all the WWII folks were in the ground, because this is an intentional weakening, and if you cannot see it, I do not know what to say. By the end of red phase if we were given a lawful order we just instinctive did it, no questioning, no joking around. This type Fear based discipline is required for the more dangerous training exercises. I could see a lot of serious accidents occurring during training events like the 300 meter night-fire low crawl or the grenade range because someone hesitated or wanted to joke around due to the drill sergeants not being allowed apply sufficient preemptive & corrective behavioral training during red phase.

It’s a travesty.. been going on for years- just like anything else with the government they’ll chip away a little bit at a time.. The ‘surge’ (massive enlistment after 9/11) was what I would consider peak standard for how difficult the training was- this makes sense because you’d be off to war or in the works rapidly.. slowly but surely they’ve (brAssholes) have been implementing restrictions in training over the years- to think, it started as simple as limiting the amount of push ups can be given at a time, or Drill Sgts being required to hand out ‘safety cards’. It really makes me wonder about the next generation of soldiers and how far we’ll go with things Just like this.. I feel for the Drill sergeants here, that’s probably one of the most demanding roles in the entire army.. but let’s go ahead and make it harder on them. Makes complete sense. Welcome to the new Army- where it’s just like summer camp and you can do whatever you want without fearing for your life.

Every generation since 1775 has accused the "new" Army of being too soft. War is not a one-size-fits-all and each is fought differently, and when a new one breaks out, the Army will adapt and do just fine, like it always has.
@fathead8933
@fathead8933 Год назад
That's funny. Where does most yelling, screaming, and smoking happen? Garrison. You know how much of my MOS (11B) I learned in garrison? Zero. This new generation is gonna have the same issues early GWOT had, the NCOs have no combat experience but think theyre tactical geniuses and are the deadliest thing since poison gas. I as an E3 had the same amount of combat experience as 99% of my rifle company when I first deployed.None. So the prep for combat stuff is garbage, because none of them know combat. They'll learn from this the way GWOT learned. There was massive reshuffling of NCOs after the first deployments because some people had no business in leadership. I've seen privates take fireteams and E4s take squads because the NCO couldn't be trusted and there's no true test of leadership until the SL is hiding under his vehicle while his squad is assaulting the OBJ. If you remove the ability to allow the NCOs to be toxic, you change the culture.

Everyone knows that screaming incessantly, making caveman gestures and having mandatory fun days is what increases combat readiness. It's not like wars today are fought overwhelmingly with heavy use of advanced technology, right? Gotta love Surge vets/SNCOs shitting on the new Army, as if theirs was any better prepared. They should ask all the guys who snap and end their own lives alone in the barracks; I'm sure they could answer how well toxic "order and discipline" prepared them.

My soul is hurting. I was on FLW in 89. My Drills were the end of the Nam Era. They were tough men that I knew loved me. They showed me every day by driving me into the ground. They had no mercy. The only time they stepped out of character was on graduation day. These guys were the coolest most awesome guys ever to be in my life! Although I was glad to get away from them that day, I have truly missed them every day since. People take the Drills personally. The ONLY thing anyone should take personally from BCT experience is the fact that your Drills only want you and your buddies to survive. The rest of it is purely training theatrics. Sad that these kids are being cheated out of the only father like experience they would ever know.

Even here at the fire academy it never stopped, the instructors will yell at us to get moving cause every second wasted is someone’s property or life. Stress builds confidence so when shit hits the fan were already prepared to deal with it. And your last point of hating the stress and loving the college lifestyle couldn’t have been more true heh.
