So glad this came up on this great channel as no matter the cartoon I seen growing up nothing could compare the old Hanna Barbera cartoons of Space Ghost, Herculoids, Dino boy and Teen force from when I was a little kid, I just loved them all
@@dominickmcveigh7282 Well sounds brilliant, but just wouldn't be the same, and you'd need to tie in the Herculoids, Teen Force and don't forget Dino Boy if you did.
@@dominickmcveigh7282 And if anyone really wanted the comic shown here isnt the only time he or other Hanna Barbera superheros appeared in a comic as Marvel did print some in the 70s which were collected in a book, an incomplete copy of which can be downloaded from the British comic blog
@@RKZX2 Well really I forgot the Mighty Mightor too, but I never seen either when I was young, although the Mighty Mightor appears to be the only one had an action figure which appears to only have been available in France.
I LOVED space ghost coast to coast. I remember I drew a picture of Space Ghost sitting at his desk and I sent it in to Williams st. and I got a hand written letter from Space Ghost and a comic book and a few other things. what a really cool thing.
The Aqua Teen Hunger Force had their first appearance on Space Ghost Coast to Coast. In that episode, Master Shake and Frylock were voiced by Mooniknights, and each of the Aqua Teen died in that episode, Meatwad was super depressed the entire time and begged Moltar to kill him, which he wore his skim as a mask after killing him. The amazing late C Martin Crooker also voiced Dr. Weird, which Dr. Weird brought the Aqua Teen Hunger Force back to life.
I was so confused as a 90's kid with my first introduction to space ghost on adult swim. I always thought he was a parody of Batman or something. Very cool video
i'm 5 years ahead of you, born in 79. Space Ghost, Herculoids, Thundarr The Barbarian were some all-timers. Everyone knows Transformers and GI Joe and He-man etc., but I've introduced a lot of people in my life to the 1st 3 I mentioned. Saturday Mornings were so awesome, sleep on the couch Friday nights and wake up and get about 6 hours of cartoons!
I like how the comic book origin gives a solid reason why (aside from superhero morals) Space Ghost in SGC2C/Cartoon Planet never outright kills Zorak when heckled. Death would just mean he can escape to a new body, so best Space Ghost can do is imprison and keep a close eye on him, with the occasional non-lethal blast to keep him in line.
Just think: If it wasn't for Space Ghost, we wouldn't have Dexter's Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, The Powerpuff Girls, Toonami, and Adult Swim itself.
My best friend was C Martin Croker. It was his idea to use Zorak and Moltar in the Coast to Coast show (this was way before he was going to do their voices, originally they were going to be done by Herve Villechaize ). Mike Lazzo had minimal creative input, he mainly just signed the checks. Cartoon Network had the idea to do a talk show with an old Hanna-Barbera character. H-B sent them a list of ones they could use, and they picked Space Ghost.
OMG... one of my favorites... my dad grew up in the era of Saturday morning cartoons ( 70s early 80s), last 10 years he's been buying DVD collections of all his favorite cartoons from this time... So, I've had the chance to watch them... which I love!! Space Ghost, Herculoids, Superfriends, a lot of other Hanna Barbra like Secret Squirrel, Jabberjaw... I love sitting with my dad watching them!!
Excellent podcast! However, you forgot to mention Hanna Barbera's Space Stars on Saturday mornings on NBC from 1981. That show had Space Ghost, The Herculoids, Teen Force, and ASTRO and The Space Mutts. That show was cool.
@BeauPierre BONDURANT Thanks! What I liked about Space Stars is that Space Ghost shared adventures with The Herculoids, as well as Teen Force. That was unbearably cool.
@@keithsmith8543 All 11 episodes of Space Stars is available on Warner Archive, maybe on HBO Max, and definitely somewhere on RU-vid...if you look hard enough.
In the very early days of Cartoon Network, they played the old Hannah Barbara cartoons and that was my second introduction to space ghost. My first being space ghost: coast to coast when it was on I think MTV or Comedy Central.
Nothing compares to Saturday morning cartoons. Up with the dawn waiting on the start of the broadcast day, Massive cereal bowl, toys spread across the carpet, and awesome shoes like this; exciting as hell, like Christmas every week
I used to watch Space Ghost as a kid but had no idea there was so much more from that character. Thanks for the upload. I'm definitely checking out the books with him in them.
Thank you! For putting this together and uploading it to RU-vid! I am so DISAPPOINTED that none, NONE, of these Classic Hanna-Barbera action cartoons have been brought to HBO Max. We can't watch Space Ghost & Dino Boy in The Lost Valley, or Birdman& The Galaxy Trio, Moby Dick, & The Mighty Mightor. The 'problem' is, the people who are in charge of everything today, are "power-mad nostalgia speculators" who it seems, have plans to stream all of the shows for profit! The shows I want to watch were deemed "too violent", when they were originally broadcast, back in the 1960s.
I was born in '66 so I barely remember watching the reruns into the early 70s of Space Ghost but I don't really remember Dino boy. Looks like they changed the channel after Space Ghost's part of the show, ended. But I sure remember Space Ghost Coast To Coast!! Loved that show!!
Holy crap! That is one dark comic. Space Ghost is awesome. I loved the original series and Space Ghost Coast to Coast was awesome but I've got to read that comic!
I remember Summer 99 when TV Guide did profiles on Space Ghost, Birdman, and the other HB heroes. It was awesome DC/Wildstorm did the limited series telling his origin where it's a mix of Green Lantern, Moon Knight, Spawn, & Bloodshot
My friend, the classic Hanna-Barbara superhero cartoons from the 1960s were the shit throughout my childhood. Space Ghost was my favorite of all the Hanna-Barbara superheroes.
Why is is that it’s the older cartoons that have the fascinating writing and stories for their characters I never grew up with the original but it looks pretty fun! Coast to coast is great
I was a kid in the 60s and I remember the cereal and tools rituals of Saturday mornings. I also remember the prime time previews of Saturday morning lineups they'd have on the first Friday of each September in the 60s and early 70s.
Not forgotten, Space Ghost is a legend. Have you seen the drawing of Space Ghost drawn by the best comic book artist Alex Ross? Of course he used this series as a starting point, but made him look ripped, more aggressive, taking zero s**t with his power arm bands wickedly powerful
I have never forgotten about this TV series. I use to wake up every saturday mornings for it. This one and The Hall Of Justice non stop. Lol Oh and Hong Kong Phooey. My 3 favorite cartoons growing up It was one of my favorites and still is. I have downloadwd some old old episodes and love it. I also think that the new MOONKNHIGHT series reminds me of Space Ghost in some way. Guessing it more of just the costume. Would love to see them make a GOOD movie or series like MOONKNIGHT of Space Ghost.
You spoke on a lot of great cartoons, Adam ant, magilla gorilla, altor boy, marine boy, so many,I a 1960 baby, cartoons after school and Saturday, everyone had a favorite, and comics books,in other words thank you for bringing back memories
The Invincible series got a lot of inspiration from this. Bred to conquer. Learned to understand the value of peace. And late night talk shows as a primary communications medium
This one of my Top 10 Hero. The adventure in space, time, and different world was very wild and crazy in the most exciting way for me. So glad you cover it. Thank you. Spaaaaace Ghooòoost!...
Space Ghost needs to come back with a no bullshit attitude… and power bands that don’t get taken away every episode! Just the Phantom Cruiser alone, would make even new fans get pumped up right away, for the idea of SpaceGhost kicking ass again!!
Thank you, subscribed ! Was a Saturday morning favorite & have watched SG on utube ! Always wanted models of the ships as a kid & also wondered who designed them, some trivia !
Remember Space Ghost. He was quite a character. Gary Owens voiced him perfectly. The 1970s series did make him sound like he has an ego, but he can get away with it. My fave ‘70s episode was the one against the Commander. The space monkey is the one thing I never liked, though better him than the one the Super Friends got saddled with.
I really enjoyed learning Space Ghost's origin story.. Space Ghost Coast to Coast was really funny.. In fact I think I will go watch a few clips right now...
nice, and I enjoyed Space Ghost also, one of my favorites is "The Meeting" it has Mighty Mightor, Shazzan , Mobey Dick, and The Herculoids this is a great episode...
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I loved this growing up and it fuels my enthusiam to this day for all superhero media along with George Reeves Superman. Bless Alex Toth, Hoyt Curtin's excellent music and Gary Owens' voice. I am still intrigued about Johnny Carson's contribution as he was credited at the end of every show. Someone should also explore those awesome prime time Hanna Barbera specials they showed every season, combining every character on all their Saturday morning cartoons in a special adventure not unlike the comic you featured at the end of your piece. It was like getting Marvel's "Infinity War" every year.
You mentioned Garry Owens in passing. "Space Gost, voiced by Gary Owens....." You should have added just who Gary Owens is, his history with Laugh-In, The Gong Show, his appearance on an episode of Coast To Coast and just how famous he was.
It's funny to see this video I was just watching space ghost the other day with my dad he grew up watching this along with The herculoids and Johnny quest and Moby Dick, and since he watched it as a kid, me and my brother would also watch it years later when we were kids in the '90s which was the last great era of cartoons for kids.
