If you free the little alien BEFORE getting the berries, you can observe the alien picking up berries where the carnivorous vine is, and later before getting in the water, you see it rubbing the berries on its body and jumping in.
Watching the play through now many years in the future, it's incredible to see the difference. To think that back then the graphics of SQ2 were considered "next gen" - pretty crazy. Meanwhile in today's gaming world, it is very hard to produce quality graphics that actually impress over previous standards these days.
KQ 1-7, QfG 1-5, PQ, SQ 1-6, Phantasmagoria, Leisure Suit Larry, Freddy Farkas, Torin's Passage... All Sierra games, all are games I've played and enjoyed. I wish they would rebuild and buy their properties back from Activision.
Your celebrated herodom slowly fades leaving you, once again, a janitor. The promotion to head janitor was no consolation. (Especially since you are the ONLY member of the janitorial staff.) Damn, that's just good writing.
I never finished the game because of that stupid kissing alien. I could never get into the escape pod because of that mistake earlier in the game. The one thing I really hated about Sierra games.
i remember when i was playing this as a little kid and was depressed how hard this game was and now when i am 33 years i found this game even more difficult then when i was like 7-8
It takes so much patience, these games were short, but designed to take ages to complete through trial and error. I just find it weird seeing it in colour. I played on a black and white amstrad and never knew the game had colour...
@@leow637 That’s crazy! I remember finding it strange at the time that everyone else’s displays were green and black or orange and black. I had an Amiga 500, and most games were the quality of the arcades at the time, with fully synthesised music. So the beeps and highly pixelated graphics were a huge step backwards. But, being able to interact with a story, rather than another action arcade platformer, was still groundbreaking to me as a kid. It was very cinematic.
I got stuck for an entire summer on the hold breath when ducking under the water. Oh to come upon against the impenetrable barrier of a pre-internet Sierra adventure game puzzle. Then one day the solution occurred to me, and it was like travelling to another world!
I know... It was crazy back then. If you didn't know somebody, personally, who had played through the game and could help you, (which was unlikely,) there was no way to get any help for these games - other than ordering a hint book. (Which I had to do for King's Quest III...)
@@andystandys Unfortunately I think Sierra did this kind of thing deliberately to sell those hint books and calls to their hint-line. It doesn't make much sense in this case. If he wasn't holding his breath wouldn't he swallow water right away instead of getting as far as he can?
I never made it past minute 11:00. Rub berries on body. Hmph. We got a newer computer and I never knew what happened at the end. That ending is so hilariously sad. I love how wonderfully sarcastic it is.
That stupid creature at 9:14 is my biggest memory from this game. I guess I got eaten by it that many times. I have a feeling I never got past about 14:25 or 15:00. Not sure if I just lost interest at that point, but I remember trying to get through SQ1 much more than this game.
Damn, games were so hard back in the days. Of course with no internet to google walk throughs. I never made it past the kraken thing. :( Thanks for bringing back some kind of fun memories...or lets say...some memories. :D
Well, the problem with most of these adventure games is that you aren't given any hints or help. You're literally a character on screen one, with 3 objects you could interact with but you have no idea what those objects are, or where they are at. I used to play this and I never knew about throwing the rock at the guard, until I seen it in this video. Sierra adventure games are awesome, don't get me wrong. King Arthur and the quest for the holy grail, took me a full year to finally beat as a kid. I was stuck at the part in these catacombs where there was a small mummy or figurine in this cutout in the wall, wearing a medallion that you needed, but you couldn't just take it with your hands, because of the vile rats. Finally I figured out the command, 'use sword on medallion' and King Arthur uses his sword on the edge of it so that it slides on the sword.
The cliff hanger at the end made it clear that there would be a Space Quest 3 - which is a pretty cool touch, considering that cliff hangers weren't the norm back then.
I never thought I'd see the end of this game! Played it when I was 10, 35 years ago. My native language isn't english so I didn't know what I was doing. Love this video!
Don't lie. You called the hint line that costed 4 dollars a minute like I did. Or got the hint book with the weird magnifying red glass to get the hints. Then your parents beat us because we called that line
I’d love it if someone modernised the sounds and mixed the soundtracks of the other games in the title to a modded version of this, where the graphics are still exactly the same.
Where can I get these early space quest, kings quest, games? I’ve looked around but I can only find the ‘remake’ versions with updated graphics, and I don’t want those.
well first thing you did when entering a new screen: type the "LOOK" command. the game would then tell you all things of interest on screen. but being creative helped a lot, yeah.
This person already knew what to do and only typed in things that would advance the game and get points. Obviously, when you first play the game it is done by trial and error, plus you can get a hint book if you are really stuck.
You had to search and find solutions yourself! This games took us weeks to finish because we got stuck, there was internet, you had to wait for school the next day to ask your buddies for help.
