Following my hike in Consuegra, what better way to follow up than to come to The City of the Three Cultures, Toledo. Christians, Muslims and Jews, lived and co-existed for centuries here. Although, I never lived in the main city when I lived in the Toledo area for years, I would always admire its beauty on my way to work.🙏♥️
This hike, once again, took me through familiar surroundings, starting off at the foot of La Puerta de Toledo. From there, I made my way down towards the bottom of the hill, to catch the escalators up to Zocodover Square. Here, I got to try the ever so popular, Marzipan of Toledo. The window display you can find there, just wets the appetite to try some, whether you like it or not.🤷🏽♂️😅
I didn't stop for very long as I wanted to finish the day, watching the sunset from the valley, so I quickly continued, making my way around the Alcázar as well as passing by many souvenir shops that seem to dot every corner. Many of them, selling Toledo steel, which is known for being unusually hard and this tradition of sword-making in Toledo, dates back to the Roman period. For Lord of the Rings fans, the prototypes of the swords and daggers from the films, were made here in Toledo.🤺
Other places of interest, I wandered by, were the cathedral and Toledo bridge where you can zipline across the river. I hope to revisit Toledo before I go and view everything in more detail. As always, I recorded my day in a video which I'll leave down below. I mention in the video some relevant history that was told to me by a good friend of mine years ago. He did an amazing War Walk Tour, he would call it, with a few of us and gave us a great insight into the history of the Spanish Civil War.🧐
