@@timonsolus, it depends what the lie is about. In another professions if you lie about important things then it would usually of often come under fraud. For example, lying about finances. Also, what one Member of Parliament or at least frontbencher MP does affects the whole country unlike most other individual workers. So it matters more than ever that politicians are held to account and face severe consequences for lying.

Whether in the House, committee or constituency business, they ought to clock their hours like many other professionals ( solicitors,consutlants) and be paid prorated on their annual salary. You hear this debate put forward on question time wherever politician should take second jobs (multiple Jobs) often with various/multiple lobbying groups set up by large corporates paying politicians and pushing there own interests which is undemocratic. There is no debate it is a form of bribary and corruption at the heart of government. Even if it was not a form corruption dressed as secondary jobs how can politicians work through the UK problems if there head is always on the swival never on government business. All that's needed is for the minister to be forced to correct the record if he has 'misspoken'. This could be done by the Speaker preventing the minister from speaking in Parliament at all, on any subject, until after he's corrected the record. Any time the minister tries to speak about anything else except correcting the record, he should be forced to leave the chamber for the rest of the day, escorted out by the Serjeant at Arms.

The code of conduct is a sick joke on the public. 1. Its non binding and as the HoC is above the law regarding how it polices itself the 'code' has no legal force 2. The ultimate arbiter of the code is the PM who decides if any complaint is to be investigated and if so then the PM solely chooses how any enquiry is run & by which person who is solely selected by the PM and with (non binding on the PM) terms of reference from the PM and the report goes only to the PM who can disregard the report in part or in total and who does not have to make any part public. 3. The PM can also change the code without reference to anybody else - Johnson did this.

The job of being an MP involves more than sitting in the Chamber. They have constituency work to attend to, select committees to sit on, lobbyists to meet with, functions to attend in a professional capacity, and public visits to make on behalf of their briefs and their constituents. If the people wanted that it would happen, if someone does not get voted into power and they seize power it is a dictatorship. This is the last thing you want, Socialism and Dictatorships (which usually happen under the guise of socialism) always end up with everyone worse off, especially those who have nothing to offer. Regardless of how you view the Tories, Labour were traditionally the party to offer the alternative you want. However, they no longer represent "normal society and council estates" and instead focus on niche and populist demographics. Literally no party represents the traditional British common person who are by a long way the most common demographic. If this is something you are serious about, maybe it is time to start a party that represents the people you want in power ???? It would be a refreshing shake up of politics.
