Speed Gems 55-64 Early Cadillac to Chevy Automatic and Manual Transmission Adapter Installation 

Nice, I’ve just started looking into adapting a different trans into my 1959 Coupe DeVille.

I have used this kit to adapt a TR 700-R4 built by PATC to my '57 Sedan de Ville's stock 365. I am currently stymied by having a 2- wire starter, but the wiring harness is 3-wire. I figure that I need a different sort of starter - that aside, the installation of this adapter set was extremely easy. I got confused by the setup of the pins, but that was because I am a boob. It aligned really easily and fit snug to the block. The crank adapter likewise fit extremely well. Money well spent as I have dropped the stock trans TWICE and attempted to rebuild it (315 Jetaway) myself after a catastrophic failure, but realized that I could not do it and I miss driving my car. PATC sells this Speed Gems kit and I also got the Raptor 700 R4 with some heavier-duty components. Heck, I don't think I'm going to tow anything, but I guess that it's good to know that the transmission could handle it!

EDIT: Ah, I see the problem now: I forgot there are TWO 390's from Cadillac. The first was an update of the 365 and ran from '59 thru 1962. In 1963 Cadillac introduced a new engine, same displacement(390), distributor in the FRONT(shares some parts with the older motors but not many). In 1964 (NOT '65) this was upped to 429 cubes and some(other than Commercial Chassis) were given the TH400(with the adapter). So some of the info is wrong here; '63 and up engines, 390/429 to '67 are different beasts from the '62 and prior engines. He has his dates wrong. Not sure how that impacts what adapters to use... (end EDIT) Not sure where your information about the '64 429 is coming from but the 429 was only the front distributor new engine. It was introduced with the '64 model year and used the adapter to the TH400 3spd auto. I've had several of these cars including the one I still own, which my grandparents bought new and have been working with them for nearly 50 years. There WERE commercial chassis using the 4spd hydramatic trans and those may or may not have been holdover 390's, but the new 429, front distributor, TH 400 trans package started with the intro of the '64 model year.

I feel this guy probably talks in sleep about transmissions ! Yes, we have found the transmission savant !.... I wonder how does the stock caddy shifting linkage interface ? Guess I will have to go to the website or call.

This video was very helpful. I have a 1963 Cadillac 390. I want to adapt a BOPC TH400 from a 1973 Cadillac. Reason is I already have the transmission and it was rebuilt and working well before pulled. Do you guys sell such a kit that will allow me to bolt the 73 Caddy Transmission to my 63 Caddy?

Do you have a transmission preference behind that engine? I have a 56 and spent a lot on rebuilding the factory trans and it's pretty disappointing to say the least.

Will this work with a 4l80e that has the The extra hole at the 12 o clock position even if you dont use the bolt hole?
