Take it as a Death Guard player who kitbashed his entire army: the best part of DG/Nurgle is just how permissive the conversions and paintjobs are. Melted by plastic glue or encrusted by superglue? Greenstuff goop sticking out? Who cares, they're in canon covered in filth, slime, ooze, fungus and ten flavors of inexplicable techno organic chaos shit. They literally already look like shit smeared kitbashes in universe.

I’m surprised that “they’re not Eldar, Nagash, or the Skaven” isn’t a con for every other faction.

I forgot to make a smegma joke so instead just picture what Mortarion must be cheesing it up with down there.

It makes sense that the Death Guard had no agency in their fall, when you consider how Nurgle operates. Out of all the Chaos Gods, Nurgle has the least respect for free will, and that's saying a lot. As far as Nurgle is concerned, you will accept and spread his love, whether you like it or not.

I liked it when the Primarchs were mythological figures that only Chaos Space Marines lived long enough to have first hand memories of.

Mortarion, in my eyes, is the only story which matches Angron in tragedy. Maybe it’s the fandom warping my view but the aspect of ‘I finally have brothers’ and then not one of those brothers being even vaguely willing to associate with you or try to understand you besides Horus has always just been so heartbreaking.

I still to this day cannot get how one would come to be tempted to worship Nurgle, and neither could GW, other than fucking blackmail lmao: "I was an honourable warrior who in time forget everything I fought for till only the fighting was left", "I was a scholar obsessed with unraveling the secrets of the universe and the warp, and my thirst for knowledge outweighed self preservation and morality", "I lived life to the fullest, loving, eating and listening to music, but I always wanted to feel more and more, till I lived only from high to high", and of course "not-Cartman gave me space AIDS".

One of my favorite things about the Death Guard how they are characterized in a lot of the stories, it's all too easy to make them bumbling, slow idiots but most of the time they're treated as empathetic, patient, intelligent and understanding. They'll still turn you into a mass of gross slime though

I have a saying: “the Death Guard are the coolest army you’d never want to be a part of.” They have an awesome aesthetic and a unique play style, but you don’t want to have 30,000 illnesses at once, with said illnesses getting worse over time (in Lords of Silence a Plague Marine talks about how the buildup of phlegm and water in his lungs over the decades has made his life much harder than he’d like)

You also forget that DG are one of the only factions that are having fun. When they aren't bombing and infecting the universe with papa nurgles love, they are gardeners who take pride and passion in turning their realm into a sickly Eden

The Biologus Putrifier can be a great C’tan counter with his free grenade. I found this out the hard way when my Void Dragon took two grenades to the face.

Personally, i think taking nurgle down a peg or two was a good call. Plague, as you point out, kills more soldiers than combat IRL and, despite the imperiums amazing ability to keep inquisitors and high lords alive for centuries, i dare such medical advancements are not shared with the billions in a hive city. I desperately what Mortarion to meet the Tau. I imagine it going this way… “Shadowsun looked on as the horrifying abominations advancing towards her. On of the tainted ones, but much more than that. It was enormous. At least 20 feet tall, with moth like wings, a torn cloak, massive scythe, clad in the green rustic infected style armor as the rest and, like many Gue’vesa, wore no head protection of any kind. It was reminiscent of the Astarte chapter master that the empire killed in the Damocles Gulf war. But the comparison didn’t do the being justice. It was as more that chapter master was to this being what a normal Astarte, or even basic Gue’vesa, was to a chapter master. In fact, in perhaps a in an ironic twist of both fate and history repeating, had it not been tainted and mutated she would have assumed that such a person could *only be* the Emperor the Imperials go on and on about. Just like with the Chapter Master all those years ago. But then the being spoken once more… “I am Mortarion! Primarch of the Death Guard, Champion of Nurgle, Lord of the 14th legion, and Son of the Emperor.” That last part caught Shadowsun’s attention. *Son* of the emperor? If this is his son, what was *he* like? “Rejoice, for your suffering and misery has come to a blissful end. For I spread upon you the gifts of the unholy grandfather himself.” As he spoke green mist spread out from his being and onto the closest front line combatants. They screamed in agony and pain all the while physically melting and turning to literal mush of meat and bones. Never in all her years had the commander see such a horror. “Do not cry” the gaint continued, “You not dying, it is merely the consequence of rejecting the Plague father’s embrace. Embrace Nurgle, join our family, embrace his love, accept his gifts, and Ypu will know no pain. No more suffering, no more loneliness, no more death. Only euphoria, acceptance, love, peace, and happiness. For Poppa Nurgle loves us all for who we are, and all you need to do is love him back and you too be part of a world of truly pure perfection.” Shadowsun was no fool. This “Mortarion” was a liar. His words may be honeyed and sweet, but his actions showed the truth. He was no herald of a benevolent god, but a reaper of souls. Shadowsun looked at her troops and saw a horrifying sight as some began to mutate into a similar forms as the invaders. They were weak willed and sought the easy way out. Turning their backs on the Greater Good. But to the Tau commander there was only one choice to make. Calmly, she rose her arm, aim her cannon at the Tainted Gue’vesa leader, and fired at him. "Never" she yelled, 'I will never lower myself! I am Shadowsun and I serve only the Greater Good!" The shot hit him square in the upper chest. And didn’t even register as a speed bump. “So you have chosen death” the one called Mortarion replied. “We offered you friendship and you spit in your face. Well then, let me enlighten you as to what happens to those who reject Nurgles gifts.” “I have faced your kind before, Human” Shadowsun said in Gothic. “I know how to face Astartes.” Mortarion just laughed. "You may have met a space marine chapter before Shadowsun” he said gleefully, “but you've never met a Legion." Imagine Mortarion has the voice of John Nobles Scarecrow from Arkham Knight and Shadowsun has the voice of FemShep from Mass Effect.

Yes! All factions deserve a do or don't video, I'll always watch these!

I chose Death Guard as my first army as I thought they'd be fun to paint and I was right. What I didn't think about was how you can make a small mistake while painting and it just fits in with the rest of the filth. Any time anyone asks what army to start painting with I suggest Death Guard for that reason, you can learn and your mistakes help the model stand out. Hell my Death Guard have have like 10 different colours of flesh as I decided pink wasn't my thing early on and started experimenting with yellows and greens. As for playing DG I find that opponents tend to underestimate them. They don't realise 2 attacks with Lethal Hits really hurts after a couple of rounds and that those 2 Blight Haulers and a Bloat Drone with Plaguespewers tearing around the flank are actually a threat, especially to vehicles. I had one Ultrasmurf opponent decide to attempt being sneaky-funny at the first round and try blazing a Rhino filled with Marines up the edge of the map. My only Blight Hauler (at the time) and Plaguespewer Bloat Drone on that side that destroyed all of them.

Trust me, buddy, it's hard to feel bad for people trying to put me in the dirt in one of the most gruesome ways possible which is chemical, biological and radiological warfare done in such a way it makes all IRL ways of it look tame by comparison. I'd turn a spaceship engine into an improvised flamethrower like the humans in Avatar did when they came back to Pandora before I felt a single iota of pity for these guy's.

As a DG player, I hate when people say Mortarion is a hypocrite. Even if he knew what would happen to him if he agreed to Nurgles offer, he still chose to become the very thing he hated most because his sons were suffering and this was the only way to stop it. He's the only Good Dad in 40K and it's High Time people know about it.

I am glad at least one person can acknowledge that the Death Guard are really scary. They have the highest body count probably (which is a win itself for chaos). They still have their primarch and function pretty solidly under his authority. They are not coke snorting grapist. They don't eat glue for substance. And Nurgle Demons are the one faction of hell with the power of friendship and general cohesion. As a bad guy the Death Guard are pretty badass in my opinion.

I would've loved to see them as loyalist in 40k, just to see how badass their named characters would turn out to be. Considering you have people like Garro, absolute tank and beast of a man

I gotta say, the new plague marine models look so sanitized compared to the old ones, way less rot and way more tzeentchian looking, the dow2 models were the ones that really nailed the tone of the faction in my opinion

My fondest memory of dealing with the Deathguard, was back in 7e when my Blood Angels army got out blitzkrieged by a bunch of plague marines in a land raider. The dice royally kept fucking me till they ran me off the board.

Some of the best models I've ever seen painted have been Death Guard. An amazing looking army when painted by someone with skill. One of my buddy's recently started collecting them and he said they aren't doing the greatest for him in games. Great video dude.

The death guard aura and characters are a hard counter to Drukhari lists. Most Drukhari lists have a rush down fighting style, meaning they’re doing the DG’a job of getting close and then getting reduced to t2 across the board. It’s rough.

The sad thing is in 9th Death Guard has the slow and tanky but now they get rid of the tanky and replace it with the debuff you can put on enemies you feel horrible. You’re just slow and sometimes feel like you can’t do anything. But hey, whatever happens, just be happy you’re not Necrons in 9th edition.

Imo one of the best chaos characters , Vorx. Spoiler: Dude outplayed/destroyed a loyalist chapter, a word bears war band & The dissenters in his own war band at the same time

The Tau - Death Guard war had already ended. Presumably (I don't know for sure) the Death Guard wanted to use the Startide Nexus to get from Imperium Nihilus to Ultramar but left after finding out that the warp manifestation of the Greater Good was in the portal.

Do or don't Chaos Daemons in the future perhaps? They can be played in both games, have Belakor, fun to paint, and are fun if you want more supernatural and fantasy aspects. Plus, Soul Grinders make people cry.

Am I the only one that byes Typhus as much as Erebus? Also whenever I read Typhus I hear either the Gilbert Godfrey tts voice or Malcolm McDowell’s Death voice from Castlevania. I can’t decide which is better.
