My son did this as a science project about 10 years ago. We used a hand drill to create dimples then measured how far we could throw them. Amazing the effect they had.
I also have a tournament coming up this Saturday! I'm playing 3 games in Pennsylvania against MDX-North 2026, The Bears, and MDX-North 2025. The 2025 team will be the most challenging because there a year older than us which is a disadvantage. I'm hyped!!!!!!

Consistency, I like it. Next up, accuracy? That may be a tough one to keep the testing as repeatable as possible, of course. Unless you are not like me at all, and always hit the spot you want to every single time. I mean, if I'm aiming for the broadside of barn, I'm 95%, at least. ;)
Isn't the advantage with textured balls that they can last for a longer time? As they get their grip from their texture and not the grippy-ness of their surface. Or is this simply false? (never had a textured ball in my stick yet)
Pretty sure it’s so that the ball goes straighter and is more consistent when throwing and shooting. The texture would probably help with keeping grip too tho
Shooting video with bryan costible, sergio perkovic, deemer class, or ryan drenner please! I want to know how they shoot so I can get used to it and use it through out my life. My shooting form is garbage!
Hayden, That would be a really cool video! It will be tough to arrange for a time they all can come in to do that but sign up for a training session with Deemer. He will help perfect your shooting form.
