Perfect video/Perfect timing. Mr Newton, I'm a 40yr old cabinet maker out here in San Diego CA who has been dreaming of flying FPV for years. I don't know a single soul who is into this hobby and unfortunately there's not any helpful friendly shops around to help a guy figure things out that I've found. You Sir, have been the most helpful, patient informative mentor to me. I have an enormous amount of respect and admiration for you and have come to really enjoy your videos and your calm relaxing form of teaching. I can't imagine how I would have been able to put all the pieces of this great hobby together without your guidance. Sincerely, Thank you.
Do a google search for local Rc flying clubs in your area you might find one near by. People who are in the rc hobby are generally friendly and willing to share what they know. Anyways goodluck
I love the information and way you go about showing how you setup your aircraft, I recently bought the same f405 flight controller per watching your reviews of it and experience with these things and have almost everything setup , I am new to using or flashing firmwares to use the uart ports for recievers, I know it supports sbus , but would the same sbus port support the betafpv elrs pwm micro rx , it's the only elrs rx that binds to my jumper tlite but even when connected to the sbus port it connects, with that it will not translate stick movements, my question is have I done something wrong, have I missed something, or will I have to change settings in inav setup for the flight controller, or something else. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, I'm just really looking forward to get this setup properly and be able to get my ck wing in the air finally , thank you all in advance for helping me with this issue
newbeedrone shop is in San Diego sells this Flight Controller and fpv gear. An RC Club will have member into FPV. I'm in North County and in Palomar RC Flyers.
I have embarked on this adventure but I am currently stymied. In my connection to Inav 6 I have failed to achieve any communication from the Radio. I am running a Fr Sky Taranis 9 tx into a RadioMaster R88 rx, via an SBUS cable, out of the first group receiver pins (aileron), and into the far left SBUS connector, with white wire uppermost. This system works fine into a standard (no flight controller plane) I am using UART 2 for the receiver. But there is no response in the inav receiver display. I am not certain about the inav questions on the right hand side of the receiver page. Could I have missed some detail about the type of SBUS used ? I find it hard to believe that I have damaged the First line of the Ports chart. But maybe ! If I had what would I see ? Any thoughts would be most welcome. Maybe I have a Speedy Bee Dud
@@AndrewNewton While INAV 7.1 may not require a compass for basic navigation functions, we strongly advise you to install one for optimal flight performance. Here's why: 🛰️ Better Flight Precision: A compass provides essential data for accurate navigation, ensuring smoother and more precise flight paths. 🌐 Enhanced Reliability: With a compass onboard, your drone can maintain stability even in challenging environments, low speeds and strong wind. 🚀 Minimize Risks: Although INAV 7.1 can get you where you need to go without a compass, flying without one may result in a bumpier ride and increased risk of drift or inaccurate positioning. Ok?
@@jerryboics9550 Thanks for sharing that Jerry but...... This is a fixed wing channel, not multi rotors. Your quote relates INAV 7.1. This video is 12 months old using INAV 6.0
As someone entirely new to the world of fixed-wing flight controllers, this video was an exceptional resource. The breakdown was concise, and expertly delivered. Your explanations were easy to understand and applicable even for me, who has zero prior drone experience. This informative guide has definitely helped me with not burning my house to the ground or giving up midway because I can't find my way with the connections. Thanks a LOT
Having returned to the sport after 20 years away, I can not believe the technology available now! Well described yet again, even I now have some understanding of this amazing unit. Thanks Andrew
Fantastic video thank you sir. Got me started! I am only running a DJI 03 to the F405 with a GPS to get hud and flight data. I am not ready to connect a receiver and control the flight surfaces yet. The problem is that the DJI 03 won't arm to high power. Ive hit a wall on it. Is there a setting I can adjust or perhaps jump a connection to trick there Flight controller into arming the DJI 03? Thank you
Hey, if you can and you have enough juice to make suggestions, ask them to make an all In one with a barometer black box and the SDA in SCL pads for a compass and enough uarts for ELRS, GPS and ? thank you. Oh, yeah, I forgot about 20 amps. No osd chip and 5v&10v
Hi Andrew I love the simple way you explain everything. I have the speedybee 405. Am I right that the port for vtx smart audio is uart6? Thanks for any help.
Bad FC ? The 4 leads that the battery voltage is flashing one after another. They were working correctly. OSD, GPS, working. The Runcam is getting very warm and haven't gotten the sbus to work. Thanks for the help
That was super helpful! Thanks! I have a 4 in 1 esc with the 8 pins coming out that I have to connect to a SpeedyBee F405 Wing FC, which has like 11 ports with 3 pins each (S1, Vx, G). Do I only connect the Signal pins? How do I handle ground and current?
Hi. I could realllllly use yer help. I have ths fc and a 03 air unit. Its all wired up. But icant get the air unit to talk to fc and move servos etc.. how do i set up for vid and receiver in ports etc... i hope u xan help ...im reall bummed i cant it flying.
Hi Where should we plug Jhemcu Buzzer / Finder in Speedybee F405Wing There are 3 wire (Ground 5V BZ) Is it okay to put it in the Servo? I tried to plug it in the servo but the buzzer continuosly buzzing
Thank you for the video, Andrew! Maybe you know where I can find power configuration for 4+1 VTOl plane with SpeedeBee F405? I found only for tricopter VTOl configuration.
Can i connect the power from my ESC BEC to the board, not using the PDB to power the servos? I've used Pixhawk and always power it using the BEC from my ESC
Thank you for this video. I recently bought it and so far performs well. Do you have a link of where I can get the Mac OS version of the driver for Speedybee F405 Wing? I can find Windows (PC) version in Speedybee website but not Mac OS. So far, I have been using my crappy old PC and my iPhone app for INAV but would like to start using my Macbook Air for INAV.
I got back in touch with my dealer. He got in touch with SpeedyBee. Wowee !!!! What a difference experience makes !!! Looks like I have three good goers !!!
Thanks for you outstanding instructional videos. Question a little off base, but can't find answers anywhere else. I have the EPW6 from Happymodel, trying to wire it onto Speedybee f405 v3 FC for a flying wing. I have the EPW3 bound to my TX16S, I have 1 motor wired up to the f405v3. But connecting the EPW3 to the FC got me spinning. I didn't think using the esc from the PDB would going to be this hard... I know Speedybee has a FC for a wing, Have them ordered, I say you use the mitek FC and thought I could go this way.... Hope I gave you a clear picture of what I am after... thanks again...AHC
Great video! Is there an SBUS or CRSF receiver that is DSM2 or DSMX compatible? New to FPV and trying to make this flight controller work with my Spektrum radio. Thanks!!
I think you can use Spectrum serial receivers with INAV. Plug in to UART1 and choose SRXL2 in the receiver page. Actually it depends which Rx you use. Some (maybe satellite receivers) need 3.3V and plug in to the T1 pin. Check Painless360 videos
I found a way to have the FC set the ARM command without requiring satellites. Set a rule in the MODES tab to set ARM when a selected servo is within the range specified. I picked a toggle switch on ch5. Then enable a logic condition to ALWAYS override arming safety. This is done in the tab that looks like a hollow gear. This was needed for my 03 air unit that stays in low xtr power until it receives an ARM conmand. It now switches out of low power based on the position of the ch 5 toggle switch, allowing you to go to low power when on the ground and only switching to high power when in the air. All without needing satellites and done thru the app.
Thank you Andrew, Do you cover ground station with inav via telemetry in some of your videos? How can I run a ground station with realtime monitoring and waypoint update during flight? Thank you
Hi Andrew, I hope all is well...I have a small problem..I don't understand where I have to connect the black and white cable of the esc...thanks for your help HI
Making some progress. Surprised by the servo responses. The servos are same brand and model. Aileron response normal. Elevator response small. Rudder response tiny. Is that to be expected ?
I have enabled servos, but I'm having trouble getting all servos to work😢 I'm setting up the atomic seal and everything is plugged in as inav shows. At first only the left aileron worked. Then the elevator started working
Either something wrong with your plane wiring, incorrect radio setup or wrong board setup. Here's a trouble shooting page newtonairlines.blogspot.com/2023/06/inav-trouble-shooting-checklist.html
Hello Andrew, thanks for your video! I would like to ask you a question! Does this controller have an integrated osd with information such as speed and altitude? Thank you very much in advance
Not trying to be complicated but it would be nice if there was an online assistant that allowed you to supply setup information and the program would show you a wiring schematic of the supplied parts.
CANT SEE SPEEDYBEE IN DEVICE MNG ?? : Fantastic thanks for teh info. I have a question when plugging speedybee f405wing into the pc via usb: I used to be able to connect the board properly to missionplanner via com5 and begin configuration, afterwards i had to flash it to the speedybee reccommended firmare (w/ stm cube programmer), I did some soldering for battery cables and now when I plug the USB (in several pc's) the board lights up, but device manager does not even see any device (device manager does not even refresh). I have checked for drivers, but no luck. Could it be that the board is toasted from (inexperienced) soldering? Any suggestions??
Look carefully at the solder areas and make sure there are no little strands bridging. Try reloading USB drivers (but I use Mac so not much help with PC)
Wonderful video that is very helpful for a beginner like myself. Have a question about twin engine planes - is one ESC controlling both motors or is there one ESC per motor? Thanks!
This helped be enormously fit this FC to a ZOHD Altus (and your other videos on that model). Is the USB board buzzer supposed to work via the 'beeper' mode in iNav? Can't get it to work - it is functioning as it does sound during switch on.
As an addition, RX2 pin in the telemetry connector is connected to the inverter on the SBUS pin. (same inputs) Very convenient for Mavlink/RC transceivers.
Candy you tell me if I have to use the ELRS pin out to get full Rssi telemetry with my crossfire Rx , or can I still get telemetry using the s-bus pin out ? I’m using the 03 AU but I will not be using the dji radio, I’m using a crossfire v2 micro Rx… thank you ….
i have the moonlight kit - will it overheat on low power mode on standby? I put a servo controlled power switch in between power wires but it still powers up through tx rx & gm3 gimbal somehow. can you show us how to set up a switch to turn bec power off/on please - found instructions online but its chinese to me not inav.
Hello Andrew, you are one of my last hopes. My flight controllers no longer have a USB connection and I can no longer connect them to the INAV configurator. I always get the following message: Failed to open MSP connection. Is it possible to completely reset the Speedy Bee F405 Wing and the Matek F405 TE? Can you give me a good tip? Many greetings from Switzerland. Didi
Hi Andrew I have just tried setting up a speedybee 405 wing in my FX-61, but I seem to be having issues with it, I cannot get the thottle to respond. All pre checks are green and ready to fly. Even on the app, I can not get the motor to respond. It seems like it just won't unarm I'm using a tx16s with crossfire nano rx All other controls are working fine. Thanks. Ps: I'm totally lost with it.
Hi Andrew. I bought 2 speedybee F405 wing FC and both of them don't have motor signal output. on Inave configurator its showing rx input and output but there is no acutual output on the speed control pins. everything else is working, arm, modes, all control surfaces, fpv goggle /camera. turning on the motor / servo output on the configurator dont make any difference. convertional plane with tail and without tail don't make difference. no motor signal output. is this a common problem with this FC? any fix for it? Thanks. hoping to get some good news from you.
After 2 days of frustration diagnosing this it’s now working. I ended hooking up a digital servo into the ESC port and it activated that channel. Now the ESC is working.
Hello once again. I installed 405 Wing. I tried different tabletops as rover and airplane. I can't get output from S3. I did a solder check, everything seems normal. Thanks (google translate )
Hi, So what would be the voltage going into the ESC and what would be the voltage going into the servos if the servo BEC is set to 6 volts for example? The servos get 6v input and the ESC gets whatever is the battery voltage? Or does the ESC also get servo BEC voltage which is 6 volts? Kindly clarify
Andrew, great vid, but could you please try to get a servo working on port S8 in INAV. On my two boards that one gets skipped, even though the configurator shows them as configured ok. Cheers, Andre
If I am using walksnail do I still plug into the same port as the DJI VTX? I have heard some you cant and some you can but I havent been able to find any documentation on that. Really new to FPV and digital systems.
Hi Andrew I’ve connected my nano crossfire, I’m getting telemetry in my radio , but no inputs work on radio? Somebody said swap tx for rx on the receiver but still nothing any ideas , tx16s this fc all work ok servos moving in accelerometer ect motor in inav but no radio any suggestions be grateful
I still have three units which look good on Inav but no closer to flying. I see in your review that you used Esc connectors not three pins !!! Good thinking !!!
Hello Mr Newton, you mentioned in this video that the fourth cabel to the camera is not connected. The diagram tells that it is for menu of the camera control. Is it for camera control or not?
Hello, I am having a problem with the setup in INAV. The pitch axis values are reversed. When the FC is in positive pitch the INAV says that it is negative. How can I solve this issue?
Normal for INAV. Nose down = positive. Check the receiver page, ch 1 to 4 graphs should increase when you move sticks up and right. Animation should follow the board movement.
got my speedybe wing controller installed everything is working surfaces and modes and arming. but cant get my flaps or gear to work in the other pins is there something im missing. added the channels to the radio and also setup the servs in the mixer but still nothing. anything would help thanks
Hi, M. Newton, I bought a speedybee, but I cannot flash tye firware, I hold the boot button and plug it, but it doesn’t go to DFU mode, any idea, thank you
Hi M. Newton, finally I foud out after many houres that the driver was the problem, so as soon as I was able to install a new driver I was able to flash the board and the program open to the set up page. I’m learning and it’s taking some time but with your help I will be able to do it. Next steps programming my gimbal 🤞😂, have a nice day.
Hello Andrew....great video...i just finished connecting all wiring on this fc for my dolphin but i need some input from you regarding irc tramp in inav 6.1.1....seems to me the tx800 speedybee vtx irc tramp to the fc doesn't work as it supposed to be ...do inav need vtxtable like Betaflight?
Tramp wire to TX5, turn on Tramp for UART5 in Ports. That's all I can suggest. No need for tables as for as I know but I dont have any tramp devices to test with.
I tried other uarts too as Speedybee instructions via email to them but unsuccessful...same goes as smartaudio...well...i shall fly it by old ways..power up the vtx to max, connect it only after gps locked and ready for auto launch...wish me luck for my maiden on dolphin, sir😂
Hi Andrew enjoying all your content here. I purchased a speedybee f405 wing recently. Every time I connect a GPS the baro stops working not sure why cannot figure out the problem . Have tried inav and arduplane same problem everytime.
@@AndrewNewton actually I discovered I had a pin problem in the connector the was causing the issue. I am getting a little blind in my old age . Thanks for the advice . I am hoping to use it as my first arduplane. Loving your content Andrew very helpful and honest reviews. Thanks.
For the sbus example, you unplug the throttle lead from the receiver and connect it to the FC with the red wire removed. What is now powering the receiver?
I removed the red wire from the ESC cable and connected to S1, which is right next to the SBUS pins. SBUS receiver does require all 3 wires to be connected to the SBUS pins and is powered from the 5V BEC on the board.
Got it thanks. One more q. I'm connecting my receiver thru sbus and am using channel 5 to send the arm command to an 03 air unit to force it out of low power mode (03 air units require the arm command to go full power transmit). I've set UART5 to DJI peripherals on PORTS page and ch5 slider bar moves correctly on RECEIVER page. I wrote a rule on MODES page to set ARM based on ch5 movement yet the 03 air stays in low power mode. Am I doing this correctly?
Hello, i have the rm er6g elrs receiver and im trying to wire it to this f405 wing. The thing is the er6g does not have output or input connections. I changed channel 2 to serial tx, (channel 3 is automatically serial rx) I’m trying to have it so my receiver is standalone and I just use the pwm pins on the FC for my servos. I’m stuck because I can’t get the receiver to stay powered without the esc bec connected, yet I can’t connect all my servos on my receiver because I only have 6 channels, 2 are used for serial tx and rx, (of which only channel 2 is connected to fc sbus uart 2), one is used for esc bec cable, and channel 5 has to be allocated for arm switch. That leaves me with channel 1,3,4, and 6 (6 is a limited channel so idk if I can rely on that one for a servo channel) Please help!
@@AndrewNewton i do not have tx rx v and g as it is a pwm with only 6 channels, no sbus or crsf output, just pwm. Is there a way to connect a pwm with no tx rx v g to fc?
Hi I tried connecting HGLRC M100 mini GPS with this Flight controller. I connected the 4 pins correctly. I also tried swapping the transmission and reception pins however the GPS icon is still red. The GPS comes with 2 LED lights which are on right now. Which means it is getting power as well. What could be an issue?
Check GPS is on UART3 in the Ports page, and no other GPS set up. Check cables with multimeter for breaks and soldering on the GPS. That's all I can suggest.
I am grateful for your easy to follow narration but I remain trapped with no screen representation of the receiver. I have built a second easy bee with exactly the same outcome. Hugely frustrating.
The change to a REAL Sbus radio worked wonders in the second unit but made no change in the first. While it seemed that the two units had the same problem it is obvious that it has the same symptoms in Inav. Thanks so much for your input !!!
hi, thx for the video, I encounter some issues, I plugged a Frsky Sbus receiver, and enable UART2 and serial RX, but when I reboot it, the status is still not enable, please advice, thank you very much
I have a bunch of old recievers for my flysky i6,they are called fs-ia6,is there a way to use these recievers on the speedybee or do i need to order another type of reciever?
@@AndrewNewton thank you ,I will still use them in smaller models that can't fit large speed controllers and upgrade to a better rx, will the fs-a8s be best for this fc as it is minimal in size
@@ramonmejias2178 SBUS receiver will work with this FCBoard so you should be OK. For proper long range I suspect you will need to buy a new radio. Radiomaster ELRS Boxer would be perfect.
