I had a 1980 Granada when I was in college. Four door, black with red interior and that classic hood ornament. Looked like a granny car. Had the 302 in it and my brother deleted the annoying California air pollution stuff. Put some washers on the bolts to set the carb back down in place after removing the junk, and punched out the restrictor in the gas fill tube so I could burn regular. Though it always had vacuum issues (the AC would quit when accelerating), yes it was a sleeper. The boys with their trans ams got their feelings hurt at every stoplight, LOL! In the winter I would put old snow tires on the rear and it had a stance a lot like your rebuilt one does. Lot of fond memories of that car. It was my last Ford product that was worth anything, after some bad experiences with some other cars I'm now a Chevy pickup gal. Thanks for doing this build and bringing back some memories!

Had an aunt she bought a inline 6 76 granada blue 4 door brand new and drove it till her death in 2018.. That car was bullet proof and never gave her any problems. She was 102 years old when she passed and was still driving that granada up to 8 months before she passed. Her children had a estate sell and it left alabama. Love the show and the builds espicially the 300 turbo i-6 build.

I run a rpm air gap in my 76 f150 with a 331, AFR 165 heads and comp cams 35-308-8. I put a victor Jr in it to try and get better distribution with sniper EFI running it. Drove 3 miles to the next over town after the swap, turned around and immediately pulled it and put rpm air gap back in. Single planes in small displacement engines have no business on the streets. You can get away with it on big blocks, not small blocks. My opinion

I like the looks of the Granada better than just about any other car of the "downsizing" era, but especially in the first 2 years, Ford had trouble filling the engine bay with anything worth owning. It's great to see someone giving a car like this an engine it always deserved, especially while leaving the interior and exterior looks unchanged. Great job!

I run 7.50's in the 1/8th and 11.70's in the 1/4 with my small block Chevelle sleeper. That is through the exhaust with 3.08 rear gears. One secret is to never shift into 3rd. I run the entire 1/4 mile in 1st and 2nd gear. The 1/4 mile trap speed is 116 mph, and the RPM is about 6900, so it's important to have an engine that can rev. In this video they're shifting waaaay too early. Some transmission mods can fix that. I run a 2800 stall too. I'd love to have that Granada!

I'm thinkin the 1/8 mi eats about 2/3 of time. So simple math: 8.2 secs X .5 = 4.1; 4.1 X 3 = 12.3 quarter mile. Of course I'm spitballin' so I could be off maybe -.25 secs or +.50 secs which opens it up quit a bit to a 12.05 - 12.8 quarter. There's probably a formula out there somewhere

@markmccarty9793
@markmccarty9793 9 месяцев назад
@metalted6128 that much motor even in a 3800lb car sucks! In a well prepped fox body with 4:10 gears it would run the 1/8 mile in the low 7"s and drive it! The trap speeds are a better indicator than et. They didn't show the 60', so it's hard to know. However, the mph is the real world indicator! 7 flat on motor, I'd be impressed. Raced on a budget for 5 years, it's tuff! Put a set of 4:11 gears in that pig! Or 4:56?!

@westernapache1700 Год назад
My thoughts exactly. If I was doing a TV show and the engine I built was smoking like that, I would pull it and do it all over before filming the drag strip parts. They tried to blame it on the valve covers? It looked like it's coming out of the tailpipe. The rings probably aren't sealing. Oops.
@ronniejohnson317
@ronniejohnson317 Год назад
They put extra ring gap in the engine because of the nitrous oxide. If they get too hot, they will grow into each other on the gap ends. If they touch each other, they will push out of the grooves and snap. The engine will get better as the rings seat better. Could you imagine how embarrassing it would be to break a ring in a new engine on the first day out of the shop.

Man, talk about dream jobs! I know that every job has it's "meh" but how many builders get to play with the engines they build? Also, great to see you getting into crank balancing and machine shop stuff. Head work is a good place for beginners to start. I would like to see someone resurrect some old Sioux valve grinding equipment, knurl valve guides, cut seats check that valves are sealing well and lap in valves for better seal, showing the best place on the valve face for the contact with the seat and more. This helps in any engine build from generators to race cars.

I still believe you guys should do an engine build on a Ford 400. That engine is much, much better than anyone ever gives it credit for. It has the capabilities of producing amounts of torque that would come very close to some diesel engines (I dare say). I built one many years ago and it produced an incredible amount of horsepower and torque that I didn't plan on when I built it during my days at Northwestern Auto/Diesel College (now known as UNO in Lima Ohio). Hit me up if you want the story on it and the research I did before choosing the engine as a project.
