This is right around the time of the cheap steel from Japan, if you looked at it and watched, you could see it start rusting. The Ford assembly plant in Mahwah NJ only built the two door and I think it was around 1977-78 that they started using the E Coat dip tank

I had a blue one. Same year. We'd put a homemade cell phone in it. This was 1985/1986. My friend modified a cb radio with FM and a tone squelch with a Radio Shack handheld phone. At his place, we had a Repeater and a 90' tower. The repeater used a phone patch and tone encoder that we made ourselves. So from the cars we could hit the repeater and make full duplex phone calls. This was before the Motorola car phones. And, the calls were made through a regular landline phone via the repeater; no extra expense. The Granada was a good car as long as you stayed on top of maintenance. I always kept extra belts, alternator, starter, water pump and other parts in the trunk.

@csr801996 Год назад
It was a good car as long as you had spare everything to replace what went wrong?
@RayBecker
@RayBecker Год назад
@@csr801996 It was Habit. I had a few old Mopars and the trunk always had spare parts. The most powerful cars I had would even get U-Joints stored in the trunk. I had a 68 Coronet 440 and I broke down one day. Popped open the trunk and changed the water pump right in the shoulder of the highway. NJ State Trooper stopped and he even helped with grabbing the right tools. It was a different time. We worked on our own cars because they were much simpler. My 73 Duster with 440 would tear up U-Joints. And that's even with sub-frame connectors and welded chain on the rear. The old engines made huge compression and big torque. I miss those days so much. It was more freedom. Peace. Especially after leaving the Service.

My Grandma had a 1977 Granada that her and my Grandpa bought brand new. Had the 302 , it was Dark Blue on Dark Blue. She had that car until she passed away in late 2005, it still ran good with only 60K miles. That car literally drove to Church and to the grocery store it whole life. I actually inherited that car and then I stupidly sold it. I wish I would have kept that car, one of my biggest regrets.

Yep, had a '77 two-door as a teen. Mine was an in-line 6 but this looks like a 302-V8 probably with C4 automatic. Can't believe the condition the whole vehicle is in. Would be nice to see it. Made decision to move from Indiana to just south of Columbia TN, and coming down next week to look for place to live and a new job not driving semi-trucks. Decided 38-years was long enough. Waiting for my F-150 to get done as the shop is rebuilding rear axle-diff assembly. I suspect a pinion or carrier bearing in the diff. Whatever it is, it was bad and I wasn't taking any chances driving to TN like that.

Worked in a private auto body repair shop in my area of the career. The owner was in the American cars for sure. Thought his wife's Chevy V8 350 Caprice was fast. A customer's Thunderbird turbo coupe with that 4-cylinder pinto engine in a manual transmission came into the shop for repairs. Drove the bosses Caprice up to the paint store once. Then I took that turbo T-Bird out for a test drive after repairs. Damn that Thunderbird 4 cylinder pinto turbo engine hauled ass and I told him that Ford will blow the doors off of that Chevy. Wasn't too happy I told him that.
