Rosemary Harris (Aunt May) was 74 years old when this was filming and did many of her own stunts. She has said in interviews that she volunteered and loved doing them because she'd never previously had a chance to do an action film. She turns 95 this September and has never officially retired from acting.

I love the final shot of this movie. They wrap it up with the traditional romantic payoff, Spidey swinging through the city skyline, and then Elfman’s melancholic score as the camera slowly pushes towards MJ, a slight tinge of uncertainty on her face, as the film fades to black. We all wanted this for those two characters over the course of two entire films and just through cinematic language, the movie asks us before we leave the theater, “was that the *responsible* choice to make?” I still think this is the strongest live-action Spider-Man film.

I love this trilogy so freaking much. The characters, the plot, and themes are just so real and human for it being a comic book movie. The main theme here being that Peter struggles to balance Spider-Man’s responsibilities with his own responsibilities to his friends, loved ones, and his academic ambitions. One of the best parts about this is that the “villain” gives Peter a glimpse of how someone with similar ambitions can strike a balance between excelling in academics and with love and relationships. I love how relatable of a coming of age story this is. I love that New York is a character and not simply collateral. I love that Peter defeats the enemy with empathy instead of superpowers. It just makes the movie that much more impactful and empowering as a viewer. You don’t need to have fancy webs or super strength, you just have to find the courage to be honest, to communicate, to practice empathy, and to show up for the ones you care about❤️💙

It's a shame we never got to see Spider-Man 4. We would have seen Vulture and Black Cat. Most of the plot elements got recycled into Homecoming, but still. And all because Avi Arad couldn't respect Raimi's vision for Spider-Man 3.

@@ninjetti9898 I mean, Tom Holland is not only a great Spiderman, he's an infinitely better person than Tobey Maguire, so... not sure why y'all insist on praising that asshole. I have my problems with the MCU's Spidey - the way he hero worships Tony is fucking ridiculous on every level, both because it feels like Uncle Ben erasure and also because Tony is legitimately a piece of shit who was actually the antagonist in one (at least one) of the films, and that "I'm nothing without the suit" line is just so fucking *STUPID* - but it's not like the 30-year-old high school student Tobey is a flawless Spidey. The Raimi Spiderman duology had some amazing elements, for sure. Kristen Dunst was a great MJ despite being given shitty material; Willem Dafoe is, of course, perfect as Green Goblin; I don't know that there can possibly be a better comic book casting than JK Simmons as J Jonah Jamison (although there may be a few that can tie it - Chris Reeve as Superman; Lane Smith as Perry White in "Lois and Clark"... Dean Cain is, in retrospect, a disgraceful casting choice which makes the tv show hard to rewatch - that, plus it being pretty cheesy; it's old - but Lane Smith was perfect as Perry White). And Cliff Robertson was such an incredible Uncle Ben; a role that doesn't get much screen time but is so important, and he nailed it. Well done. I really would've enjoyed Raimi getting the chance to include Bruce Campbell as Mysterio, to see Raimi make a movie off his own vision rather than being rail-roaded into making the 3rd movie that we got. But, you know... I wish Tobey was a better person. And it also doesn't help that James Franco is a better person than he is an actor.

Doc Oct is such a badass villain; both the comics and the movie took the time to show his back story. Which gave his character a multi-dimensional depth to it that explores the deep psychology of psychosis and revenge. Evil never thinks its evil, since there is no self-reflection involved. Evil operates from a narcissistic base and all of its decisions and actions are driven by that motivation. We all want to have things go our way, villains will stop at nothing to get their way, no matter how people get tossed in harm's way.

Great reaction to a great film! One of the subtle themes of this film that I love is that no matter how strong someone is they can't do it alone. Peter spends the first half of the movie and they deliberately don't give him a single break. Everything that can go wrong does while he's trying to do it all on his own. He needs support. And that's what the somewhat odd scene with the piece of cake is. The first time in the movie where he gets a break, just a simple act of kindness (and not one that makes him feel guilty like taking money from struggling May) that he can enjoy and that lets him know someone cares. Once he gets support of friends, family, and the community he can actually be a hero again and accomplish great things for humanity.

Your anguish for PEter is so enduring. I feel your pain as you watch everything go against PEter. As he tries to live the double life of a poor struggling adult and as a masked crime fighter. Also, the disdain that Harry has for Peter hiding the Mask man from him so he can get that revenge for his father is just heartbreaking.

Fun fact: those two kids that give spider man his mask back on the train are Toby Mcguire's real life little brothers.

The whole idea of 'it's late, I'm not paying for those' is crazy. Like, okay... the you don't get the pizza.

A little fun fact: in the Spider-Man 2 video game, you could play little side missions where you did pizza deliveries as Spidey, and the pizzas could get ruined if you weren't careful (bumping into buildings, or dropping onto the ground from too high up - because he rolls when you do that), it was great lol

Spider-Man 2 is my favorite of the Tobey McGuire Spider-Man films. I love the comedy and Danny Elfman’s score in this film.

The best of the Raimi/Maguire trilogy - the tower/subway fight is such a grand stand-out moment for CGI action. You s/explore Raimi's EVIL DEAD films too to get the gist of his filmmaking skills. Great job Ads. *BTW I love your operatic yelps :D

I think Spider-Man 2 has the best combination of practical and CGI. It is also a smart film in finding a way story wise to use Spider-Man less to avoid over doing the CGI by saying Spider-Man’s powers going away. I love how much of Doc Ock’s arms are practical vs CGI.

I love the line with Peter Parker and the Kids. Eat your Green Vegetables. That’s what my Mom is always telling me I just never actually believed her.
