Interestingly enough, it's explained in the movie. Captain Stacy says in the dinner scene that Spider-Man interrupted the police sting operation. This guy was supposed to lead them to the car ring, so all of the cops that chase him here were probably already there for the car thief.

This clip really shows something that isn't often shown in other spider-man movies and that is his pure reflexes and speed. When the cop starts shooting at him, you can see him dodge the bullets and move out of the path of bullets in extremely fast movements -- not quite at the level of a speedster but definitely far faster than an ordinary man. That is something I really like about this scene because we never really get a chance to see just how fast Spider-man's reflexes are in other movies. Again, he's got nothing on Barry Allen but he's far, far faster than any other typical superhero. He's up there slowly approaching superman in terms of reflexes and speeds.

@@harveypotter8749 Spiderman is strong enough to lift between 100 and 200 tons. Just to round things off, let's be really generous and say he can lift 100,000 kilograms. That's a one shot, highly motivated feat of strength. His normal strength is closer to 50,000 kilograms (which he normally reigns in to normal human olympic athelete strength range unless facing foes who have superhuman durability.) Superman has held up 6,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg for more than a day. His "feat" of strength 1 shot would be higher. And that's canon superman. In some one shot issues (white sun), he's even stronger. But that's canon spiderman too. What spiderman is... is *crazy* strong, fast, and nimble compared to most other marvel superheroes.

Honestly, my favorite is the 90s Animated Series one so I always compare all versions of Spider-Man to him both in wit and personality. But it IS cool they expanded on the searching for the killer part in Amazing, and the wrestling part in Raimi's Trilogy. I'd say MCU has focused more on his feeling of powerlessness so far, at least at times, but I haven't seen the new one yet and I'm not sure what the future of MCU Spider-Man is.

I think one of the most under appreciated parts of this film is how the suit, the lighting and the performance all play into this being a genuinely scary version of Spiderman. The suit looks terrifying, especially in low lighting and the way he casually and playfully taunts the car thief like it's no big deal for him, all the while being one step ahead of him almost makes it seem as he isn't human, and the car thief is powerless against him. If u were a criminal in now york city and u encountered this version of Spiderman, u would be terrified. Also the fear factor and slender, almost inhuman appearance of this Spiderman remind me a lot of Steve Ditko's depiction of Spiderman in Amazing Fantasy 15, which was meant to be scary for the reader, taking most of it's inspiration from horror comics.

Car thiefs are using something similar with newer cars, not identical but in a shape of a briefcase that acts as a signal booster to your key, it boosts the range of the car key to something around 40-50m so when you're parked in front of your house this device makes your car act like you're standing next to it and then like you're inside of it so the thiefs just ride off like it's their car. And he only "nearly shot" the guy behind him, because Spiderman started dodging and tanking bullets, which is not a realistic situation for any officer to expect to happen. And it's hard to verify anything, when Peter's doing nothing but mouthing off. And I think it's kind of crazy to be like "Look, the crook pulled a knife! That's him de-escalating!" but "how dare the cop pull a firearm!" Going back to Peter's behavior. Imagine if police fully restrained a guy, then smacked him in the balls, before taping his mouth and nose shut for a good 10-15 seconds, and it was caught on camera.

@@theguileraven7014 Peter had plenty of distance, and those bullets would have passed through his body if they'd hit him. (And why did the cop pull up so close, btw?) And meanwhile the crook tried to get away and then asked Spidey to walk away, without actually attacking him. Which doesn't excuse being a crook, obviously, but it IS funny. And lastly Peter IS wrong to be messing with that guy. This is still him motivated by revenge, and if that had been Uncle Ben's killer then things WOULD have gone very differently. And if a cop had done the stuff Peter did, I figure he'd experience the same consequences as if he'd killed someone within deadly weapon, which are... *Checks notes. ...Jack shit, right.

@@kaicreech7336 Peter didn’t have “plenty of distance”, he was more than close enough to go for a disarm, and was actively moving closer. The cop shouldn’t have pulled up that close, but it is night time, the cop likely didn’t know exactly where the emergency was, and when your adrenaline is high, sometimes you just don’t fully think things through. The crook tried to get Peter to walk away… but intimidating him with a deadly weapon. The cop tried to get Peter to surrender so the situation could be sorted out by… intimidating him with a deadly weapon. As for penetrating through, the angle wasn’t going hit the webbed guy, it was only when he tried to adjust to Peter dodging, that it actually came close. If a cop got caught on camera doing what Peter did, he’d be fired, his name would be dragged through the mud, and tons of people would know his face and be screaming for his head. And no, cops can’t just freely shoot people for no reason without consequences.
