the game is played on dolphin emulator with 4k resolution, HD texture pack (spiderman 2: RE) with Sam raimi suit and codes (specific cheats for the game) to run at 60 fps with wide-screen support and without hud
The fact that this game lets you go to the Statue of Liberty but SM2 on PS5 almost 20 years later and with literal web wings and water skiing doesn’t is absurd
@@Thfoxpzlmao what? Brooklyn literally has tall enough buildings. Plus I could say the same thing against the OG SM2- it didn’t have Queens and Brooklyn like the new one does.
I think one of the biggest things that changes how each spider man game feels is the size of the buildings. Imo, the recent spider man games’ buildings are just too small
Turn off swing assist in the new Spiderman game and you have the same feeling just with updated Tech. The new exceeded themselves adding the swings assist to able turn off or adjust it to your liking, and you truly will become Spiderman.
@@brucedoyle4055It's not quite the same, the dives barely boost your speed unless you're using loops and instead of implementing a ground slide or running animation, Spider-Man just stops on the ground if you're too low lmfao
@@brucedoyle4055people think turning off swing assistance makes all the automated problems magically disappear. The problem is not in the assistance (the magnet barrier being gone is great though), and it never was since PS4. The problem is that almost none of the momentum acquisition feels right. Granted, PS5 is much better than PS4 momentum, it’s still not where it needs to be. The swinging at zero is just stiff and the momentum is still off. I’d argue at zero it feels like it’s the most on rails. Not to mention transitioning from dive into loop de loop is horrible feeling imo, and that’s just one minor issue of the many. It’s an animation based system still, and that’s what holds it back from greatness. Yes, I’ve played it, I’ve been playing since launch
Well people, practice and get good. And just dont touch the ground problem solved. One Advice Timing is Key. To me it feels Great, and rewarding at 0 Swing Assist if you get the hang of it.
@@brucedoyle4055 It's more rewarding and challenging at 0 assist than the first Insomniac game, but SM2PS5's swinging still isn't fully physics-based and isn't nearly as challenging as SM22004. The new game is still too reliant on its animations to help less-skilled players look cool even with assist turned off. It's a massive improvement over the previous game but it's still not scratching that web swinging itch the original SM22004 did.
I will find it more fun that the more recent ones. It's a lot easier to fail in this game. But it makes succeeding so much more fun. And it's also easier to be more precise in this game. Where in the insomniac games, the assists make it hard to be precise
@@blixk1295 though I am glad Insomniac did add that option and setting it to 0 does fix a lot of my issues, it still has problems that I wish were fixed. Mainly the automated moves and climbing. Holding R2 still wall runs, let's go of the web and auto dives. The auto dives do make a little hard to have full control. The auto wall running honestly just makes doing some actions a little harder. Like loop de loops would either do that, or it would transition to a wall run. Really wish these auto systems could be turned off in the options menu. And climbing still feels awful. I don't have much to say about this
I loved web swinging in this game because it actually made you feel like you were web swinging instead of Spider Man 1 where it just went into the sky.
frrr, that was something i immediately noticed back in the day as a kid and i thought that was cool cause it felt more realistic and made me feel more like spiderman lol
My childhood was this game. I no lifed the hell out of this game I kept restarting the game that’s how good and detailed it was. I was always doing the pizza missions just for the song 😅
okay there is something special about how the camera works that makes this super thrilling even compared to the new games, i think it's the way it like pitches down and up with spider-man's descent/ascent
I know people overhype Web of Shadows but if you’ve never played it, it’s like this game, but the swinging feels twice as good, and it fixes the annoyances with this system. The very first swing had me ascending at how good it felt
Remember having this game and fighting mysterio lol. Ome of the best spiderman games and nyc replicas (especially for its time). This game made me a big spiderman fan
You really are more engaged with the swinging like theres alot more risk reward for getting momentum and because of the challenge there is a real sense of accomplishment to getting good at the swinging. You can literally practice for hours and still be learning the mechanics while in insomniacs spiderman you become a master in like 30 minutes.
All I kept seeing last month is people uploading those spinny 360 swinging loop on Marvel Spider Man 2 like it's anything extremely difficult to do and it's so fucking annoying. I love the game but people keep worshipping the swinging like it's something we never got 20 years ago
Yes, a remaster. Not a remake but a remaster. We need the same engine and combat, just with new models, textures, and maybe some new menu elements to better show off the unlockable moves.
This game was way ahead of its time, a fact exemplified by its successor, Spiderman 3. The contrast between the two is undeniable, with Spiderman 3 being a significant downgrade. The developers of Spiderman 2 poured their heart and soul into it. Thank you for making my childhood fun. What a memorable game.
@@ScarlettDXR Me too, and I think they’d lead to the edge of the map in the ocean next to the Statue of Liberty or something before your web broke. You couldn’t attach a web to the statue though
As someone who’s played both for far too much time, I have to give it to 2004. The original, physics-based swinging is still the fastest, best, most realistic, and most innovative swinging in any video game. The 2023 Spidey 2 has more to customize, so it gets points for that. But even after playing with Swing Assist at 0, I have to admit, it still does some pretty forgiving things to make the style automatic. In 2004, if you were good at swinging, you were GOOD at swinging. I’ve also completed the Mega Time for some of the Insane challenges in the 2004 Spidey 2, and I promise you… absolutely NOTHING was that difficult in 2023 Spidey 2. Also… there’s somehow more to do in the original too. Pizza missions, saving kids’ balloons, Daily Bugle photography missions, races, boss battle challenges, and so much more. I’m sure they’ll add things with updates, but as of now, the original Spidey 2 has more to do when you beat the story. Oh yeah… and the story is probably a lot better in the 2004 game too.
@@infamousplayer8772 it's engaging because the web swinging is. Insomniac's swinging feels like you're playing on autopilot most of the time so of course getting from point A to point B doesn't feel too engaging. But this game is pretty much entirely physics driven so it makes you pay more attention and asks for precise timing, reflexes, and coordination for you to get somewhere specific or do anything impressive or cool looking. For some people that appeals more. I appreciate the level of complete freedom it offers you, but I think this game is too difficult personally. And I think insomniac's is too easy and way too restrictive. For me web of shadows is the best balance
@@nathanfracasse6645 i played these games for the first time this past year so i have no nostalgia for them and I can say the same thing. even before i played them i could feel how handholdy and restrictive insomniac's swinging was. And that was after thinking it was the greatest spider-man game ever made
Man, you just took me back to my childhood/teenage years! This game was THE Spider-Man game back in the day. You know you could use the sprint and charge jump while you swung? We need this game remastered on the PS5 with 60FPS, 4K, and adaptive triggers for the swinging. Can you just IMAGINE how the graphics would look like?
Spider-man 2 (2004) has the best out of the ones listed here. Only thing thats missing is the ability to climb webs like in ultimate and WOS, and i'd also like it if it had the animation where spidery face plants when he collides into a building, for realism
yo who remembers when in a fight you could hang crooks from the streetlights as a combo move ? this game was so fire I wish I could be a kid n play this for the 1st time again 💔
How anybody can claim Insomniacs web slinging is better than is is insane. I would spend hours upon hours literally doing nothing but practicing my swinging in this game😂
insomiacs isnt, i loved it but its just not the same... its not real physics even when set to swing assist 0, theyre are so many features lacking in insomniacs that they did in this game like climbing the weblines to adjust height and position or running along the ground as you swing so you dont eat shit....also spider-man in insomiacs games feels like a feather or small cat, theres no real weight or true momentum...this game will forever be remembered as the best swinging and the fact we're even talking about it 20 years later proves that
The god of our childhoods! This was the very first Spider-Man Game I've played when I was young and it was an absolute blast! Then when I saw a Spider-Man 3 on DVD it changed my life forever and that's how I got into Spider-Man for Life
The thing that the newest Spider Mans are missing with the web mechanics is wall detection. In the ps2 game you could actually get caught up on a wall if your momentum was wrong, or you'd runn along it if your distance was too close, you actually needed to develop a feel for the horizontal and vertical world. As good as the new games are with the web slinging, they still lack a refined horizontal mechanic, and even vertically isnt an issue either because even when you're above the building lines you can still easily get a full moment swing without dropping down in height by much at all and youbcan easily bounce or glide along walls as you pass by them as if they're made of bumpers. These are all the reaspns why the ps2 game still has a feel to it that is unmatched. I'd honestly almost rather they design the modern Spider Man games as more straight up action games with the old web slinging in the clouds design than try to do open world and miss the real fundamentals but I still really like what they've done with the franchise.
@@MrMckenzie.this is not at all what it is. The ZSA, while good and functional, is hardly as manual as it appears. It just restricts your lateral movement and lets you hit the ground. In some instances I’d argue it makes the web swinging worse because it just stiffens the experience in the wrong way. Technically it gives you a better “pendulum” but it’s still smoke and mirrors. The core system holds your hand and automates almost everything, making it far less satisfying.
I recently picked this game up for the original Xbox for 10$ and I am playing it on the xbox 360 and i got to say, This games swinging and combat is so good, better than anything we have now.
Remember when Spider-Man games actually had a physics engine? Like, the web lines had collision and would bend or wrap around objects? This game came out in 2004, for fucks sake.
@@SmoothGuy2 Unfortunately, it's discontinued atm. I'm the only one who worked on this project 95%. I wanted more people to work on the project but everything goes wrong.
wow this is beautiful swinging the way he’s moving so flimsy and slippery it’s so weird he looks like a ballerina in the air he’s dancing and the way when anytime he swings you can see the weight and the speed of the swing like pulling him it’s so odd for a game to come out on the ps2 the developers had a great vision
The air tricks in this game are so much better than the ones in insomniacs spider-man, More variety and i love how you have the option to stall them if you hold the X button
@@NoCluYThow is it a skill issue when it's universally agreed that insomniacs spiderman games don't have faster web swinging than this game lmao. You sound like a stupid fanboy. Not to mention that I 100% spiderman 2 PS5 way too quick and the story was ass lol. “just consume product and then get excited for next product" is literally what you fanboys do
Best web swinging. The boost with left trigger was a smart touch let’s you add weight realistically. This is so open ended it’s a marvel and deserves more respect. Why they didnt go this way for ps4 I do not know but maybe they can in the future
it was developed by treyarch (who make black ops) back when they made sports games, so they actually used the sports physics engine they had in house to develop this game, and its why its so visceral and real feeling, I loved insomniacs take but it doesnt have real physics, even though it really tries to make it look like it, insomniac confirmed its not running a physics engine for the swinging like treyarch did with this game.
Because marvel Spider-Man 2 doesn’t rely on physics for its web swinging. It uses a set of animations that gives an illusion that the player that it’s using one. That’s why the games sometimes feels like it’s swinging itself rather than you having much control over it
@@toragic3432 yeah you're right. One disturbing thing with the game is when you're moving in mid air and when you press the triangle button on an enemy, spidey stops in mid air and webs the enemy and zips to them. Its unrealistic
One of the biggest issues with insomniacs swinging isn’t necessarily the speed but the weight of the character feels like a feather like there’s no pendulum or transfer of momentum in between webs. This game feels like a man holding onto a web while the others feel like they’re floating. They should’ve made a new game engine for Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man 2 is on a new game engine if I’m not mistaken. Plus you can tone down how much the game assists you in swinging. It starts off at 10 which is what the other games was at originally and you can bring it down to 0
I'm really glad to say that Spider-Man 2 has absolutely fixed the issues with the first game's swinging. You can even turn the "safety assists" off and take impact damage. It's amazing.
Love how rewarding swinging in this game feels. It's a skill you learn as you play and it's really the most accurate and realistic swinging considering it's based heavily on actual physics. The extra situational inputs necessary to keep a good smooth flow bring so much more realism. You actually have to react to buildings and surrounding. Spiderman PS5 swinging just looks better but that's because they're doing most the work for you and you're mostly just watching.Theres not much room for error. The game constantly nudges you away from the errors you're making for the sake of making it look smooth but there should be consequences for hitting walls and signs. Its all part of learning to swing and its a fun challenge in this game. People think its better because they made it too easy so that it looks better. They dont realize its automated to the point you can just hold R2 and thats it to get where you want. Thats not nearly as fun as actually putting in the effort to learn swinging mechanics that force you to react and swing well.
Finally someone put my exact thoughts into words. If a Spider-Man game could combine all the best things about this, Web of Shadows, and PS5 swinging we’d have a system that people could probably not stop playing. As good as PS5 is, I yearn for the og experience that just feels right
new spiderman games aint got shit on this game when it comes to swinging and the vibe i got with the music it was crazy took me back to when i was 4 years spazing the fuck out with tobey maguire spiderman i really wish i could go back man
Honestly, the swinging in this 20 year old game still feels better and more nuanced than sm2 ps5. This one you can feel the speed as you swing through the more speed upgrades you got. And has more variety of air tricks.
I think You used a mod. Dude, can you make a video about what you did to play this game on the computer? I think it would definitely be great to play the game in this form. 🙂
yo, when pressing a button that makes you swing a bit faster. the little motion blur thingy can make it harder for me to see you know. I wanna know how you got rid of that. Is it possible on the ps2 emulator?
Hey there. This is awesome! I was wondering if I could showcase one of your swings in a video series I do? It's called Community Swings on youtube. Showcasing 30sec traversal clips of different players. I would love to feature you if you'd be keen? Full credit is given to you and links to any social media of yours too. Let me know :)
Hey dude, I'm working on a video about the PC Version of Spider-man 2 and i wanted some footage to reference the PS2/GC version's swinging for comparison. Would it be OK if i use some of your video? (will credit ofc)
Honestly, I like this, Remastered and Miles morale's swinging equally. No other games swinging is as satisfying as them. I really like the air tricks. I don't care about difficulty
@NuggetMan420alt Oh well I like realism and less hand holding. Because of that, the swinging is more dynamic and can be more impressive when stunts and air tricks is pulled off. You know, you feel like you just swing that and not felt like it was artificial. Fun. ✌️
Yes, Insomniac’s game has the flashier animations & graphics, but what Spider Man 2 ‘04 is the better web swinging FOUNDATION to build upon for more interesting gameplay.
… grow up and remove your nostalgia🤣. Newest Spiderman games (even before the further improved Spiderman 2 on PS5) made for a MUCH more fun and fluid experience. This shit was great at the time but my god, maneuverability was terrible
@fionnbarrcasey5247 People really love striving for mediocrity now, huh? The insomniac web swinging is carried by the animations, and that's it. Looking at SM2 PS5, you are forced to let go of the web when web swinging and the loop de loop is lock as an upgrade, which negates any of the freedom you had from SM2 PS2. With swing assist at the minimum setting, instead of holding on to the web and running along it like in SM2 PS2, you are just forced on to the ground. Web wings can make web swinging completely obsolete considering you can fly through the whole map just with the web wings, requires minimal input, AND is measurably faster than swinging. Insomniac expects you to web swing the way THEY want you to, while Activision allowed more freedom and experimentation. Thats why people love PS2 so much and perfer the purely physics based web swinging and less of the automation insomniac gives. New ≠ better Stop meat riding mid traversal.
@@fionnbarrcasey5247 Fuck off. This is all subjective, you may feel like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 did a better job than this game did but you’re not everyone.
