This is an intro to getting around in the Spitfire, with combat covered in an upcoming video.
I've received some supportive, constructive criticism about my mic hissing when I'm not speaking. I'm really not a video editing guy, I know very little about that field, but I stuck a noise reduction filter on OBS's mic input. It definitely helped with the hissing, but it makes "axis" sound like "ahis" -- for now, I consider that a compromise worth making, but still, sorry if my VE inexperience detracts from the perceived articulation of the narration.
Speaking of mea culpa, I totally forgot to set the altimeter prior to takeoff. I screwed up several takes of this video, and won't re-record it for just this, but I began at 558 ft ASL (above sea level) and I think the altimeter was reading something like 1500, so it's wrong. There's a knob beneath the altimeter, and you should either set that to QNH (barometric pressure at sea level) or QFE (barometric pressure at the point of interest, the airfield at RAF Biggin Hill in this case) as your taste dictates.
In case people want to refer back to some basic numerical stats without scrubbing through the whole video:
Engine power settings:
Fuel economy: 2350 / +0 (no danger)
Cruise: 2650 / +7 (no danger)
Full power: 2850 / +12 (will kill engine after 1 hour)
Emergency power: RPM lever and throttle firewalled (all the way forward, will kill engine after 5 minutes)
Guns:
4x .30 caliber: 22 seconds of fire
2x 20mm: 11 seconds of fire
Landing:
Drop flaps and gear below 150 mph, maintain 120 mph on approach, touchdown nose high at 80 mph
Timecodes:
Startup: 0:20
Taxiing: 5:10
Takeoff: 9:38
External fuel tank management: 11:44
Navigation and engine management: 13:25
Firing the guns dry: 26:30
Landing: 27:26

Thanks! Listen, I totally spaced on the P8 compass for that video. Meant to mention it, didn't. A brief addendum covering that will be uploaded before tomorrow, just FYI.

I'd consider it if they fixed the guns, but right now, you can can shoot yourself in the face under certain circumstances, because the muzzle velocity of the rounds is so low that you can catch up to them after they've been fired. This also causes inaccuracy with the gunsight, because the sight is expecting the correct muzzle velocity.
