The Shark has two primary navigation instruments: the numerically-oriented PVI-800, and the graphically-oriented ABRIS. This video explains the former.
Updated for DCS World 2.5.6. This video is part of a playlist with other instructional Ka-50 videos, which can be found here: • Ka-50 Guide

To enter a route to follow you go into oper mode, select WPT, then hit the the waypoint numbers you wish to have in your route followed by enter each time. For example to have the route 1-3-4-5 you go oper-wpt-1-ent-3-ent-4-ent-5-ent-wpt-1. You will not get feedback for the route. DH/DT means desired heading / desired track. Depending on the DH/DT switch by the SAS buttons it will change between the desired track and desired heading modes. desired track tries to keep you on the route between waypoints (see above) while desired heading will point straight at the waypoint no matter where you are. The INU Update switch is unfortunately labeled. It can be used with fix points to do an inflight ins drift compensation or way points or nav target points to create new target points. INU means shkval and update means overflight. To create a waypoint or nav taget point you set the mode to edit, select the type of point you wish to make. then if in overfly mode you just hit the uncage button and the display will populate and you hit enter to confirm. in shkval mode you target a point on the ground. make sure the laser is on for accurate ranging and then hit uncage to populate the display and hit enter to confirm. nav target points can be selected to slew your shkval right onto them. they also show up on the abris when selected as flashing squares and is one of the few integrations between the systems. I prefer to use the datalink system for markpoints though. To do an in flight ins drift compensation you need to have a nav target point, either made manually or through the mission editor. in oper mode select the nav point. then fly over the point in update/overfly mode selected and hit uncage to do the update. with shkval/inu selected you aim the targeting system at the point and hit uncage. when within 15km of a fix point the ekran will display a message that you should do such a thing. during the update a message will appear on the hud. when it's gone the update is complete and the ekran will blank. the 3 buttons on the right side from the top are for inu alignment, which are not implemented in dcs. I don't think ins drift is modeled either. according to the manual there can be up to 4km drift per hour flight. if the standby adi is any indications on the accuracy of the gyros, I'd say there is about 3000km drift every 10 seconds. Also I like to get my distance and bearing from the waypoint from the ADI. It's easier to see and more visual. Also if you want to check on a waypoint's coordinates without editing it or switching it (for instance because you're in route follow autopilot) you can turn the mode selector knob to check (position 2 from the left).

Big thanks, this helped me understand the PVI-800 quite a bit better. =) Mind you, the symbol indicating radar altitude on the HUD? It's a rho, not a p. =)

@Viking355th 3 года назад
Glad it helped! But it's not a Rho, it's an Er. It's a lot closer to a Rho than a P, though, so points awarded. :)

@@Viking355th Ah damnit, I have been duped! I thought they had included actual rho in their alphabet, but they merely adapted it! Thanks, I learned even more now. =)

Changing the sequence on the pvi 800 never works for me. I've followed the checklist in the manual precisely.

For instance at 9:40 you can see your airspeed on the hud is 110 km/h. But on the tv monitor it says 96 km/h. What's up with that? Is one of them ground speed or are they using different sensors to determine the speed and they disagree?
@Viking355th
@Viking355th 2 года назад
The ABRIS's GS value is ground speed, the HUD is IAS, and I've never really been able to figure out what the TV monitor is showing. I've assumed it's different, disagreeing sensors, but I don't know for sure why they're off by a bit.

@@Viking355th ABRIS is GS. HUD is TAS. Shkval and steam gauge is IAS.
