I would consider running some Special Power Up somewhere in your kit, since Reefslider gets a boost to its splash radius for each SPU you add. It probably still won't hit people behind ledges but it helps a lot with people trying to juke your Reefslider.

There are a few things that can splat a super jumping brella. 1: Team work If a brella is attacked from 2 opposite sides, they don't stand a chance (when super jumping) 2: Splat, suction, curling, and auto bombs A brella can't protect you from something that you're standing directly on top of.

#2 is especially scary because if your shield is deployed, the bomb may detonate on impact!

A fantastic discussion, though I'm a little surprised not to see any discussion of Ink Saver Sub! Mines fill several important roles: •Reduces TTK -- each mine replaces 1x direct shot of your main. 2x closely placed mines makes the Undercover a 1-shot. Because a single mine can hit several grouped opponents this can turn the tide in 2v1 encounters. •Helps you score assists -- the chip damage helps weaken opponents for your allies to finish off, and that heals your shield. •Helps you and your teammates keep an eye on the enemy, which can be extremely handy in taking down highly mobile opponents. My most-used build currently is: •1x main of Swim Speed, Run Speed, and Ink Recovery •2x subs of Ink Saver Sub and Quick Respawn •1x sub of Swim Speed (for a total of 13 AP), Sub Power Up, Quick Superjump, Special Saver, and Ink Resistance I will likely make further adjustments, possibly swapping in a Bomb Defense per your recommendation, but I'd suggest giving the build a try, as I find the mines an invaluable and integral part of the current kit.

Mines are very underrated as a sub weapon! I used a fair bit of Ink Saver Sub for my Sorella and Kensa Undercover Builds in Splatoon 2, but I left it out here because mines aren't a sub you're going to spam or use much under duress, so you'll usually have time to recover that extra ink (especially with some Ink Recovery Up). I may still try it though; despite me saying "I never have ink management issues," the more I rewatch my footage the more I realize just how often I'm out of ink 😂. One sub of Special Saver is a good investment to make (it's one of the subs Dude recommends in his S2 gear guide). I ended up leaving it out here because Reefslider charges so fast on the Brella that it didn't feel necessary.

@@professorkyle yes I found in practice that when taking full advantage of mines I had a tendency to run dry a lot more than I'd like. My initial builds used only Ink Recovery Up specifically because of how it helps both the main and sub weapon out, but there were lots of situations where dropping a mine (before diving into a fray or when fleeing from one) would simply take too much ink and so I added the Ink Saver Sub in there and it completely eliminated the problem of running dry mid-skirmish. With that particular combo I only very rarely run out at a critical moment and can drop mines *almost* whenever the situation is advantageous for it. While I do agree that Undercover is very much a "take your time" weapon in that you're trying to waste your opponent's energy and kind of throw a monkey wrench in whatever their plans are at a given moment I was surprised by the remark of the K/D ratio being skewed more towards you being the splattee rather than splatter because even though I have occasional matches where the comp/mode dictates that I feed a lot most of the time I'm racking up double digit kills with single digit deaths, and I do chalk it up to frequent and strategic mine usage to reduce TTK. Even though laying more than 2 mines sets off the first one in a first-in-first-out sequence, I do often lay them down frequently as the most strategically advantageous positions change over the course of the match. I like to think of the Undercover/mines combo as being like a retiarius gladiator -- the brella's your trident and the mines are your net.

100 % agree. It’s a game changer for this weapon. Sun power up helps this as well increasing the radius of the mine and it tracks enemies longer. I constantly drop mines for this weapon and the results are amazing.

This was a very good guide. I main this weapon and have found great success with placing ink mines often. I use a main of sub power up to increase the radius of the mines and it helps the team locate and easily take enemies out. I use a main of special saver to always have my reef slider ready to go to take out blasters, Dynamo Rollers, and especially those pesky stampers. Your guide convinced me to try comeback instead of last ditch effort. I’m very interested in trying it out. Thanks again

Splat 2 Undercover here, amazing video! I’ve never considered run speed, but maybe I’ll find a spot to slot it in. Ink recovery is nice, but if you can manage your tank well, it is a little arbitrary in my opinion. Maybe that’s because of my high swim speed playstyle? I personally don’t run QR or Comeback, as poking and supporting (instead of slaying) typically prevents easy splats due to the shield. Instead of holding the ZR button and walking towards people menacingly, I’d recommend using your paint to strafe in squid form until you can reposition well and pin down your enemies. Another couple things that boost swim speed for the Undercover imo is getting places faster to place mines in preparation for a fight, and the aforementioned strafing. Your shield, I like to think, is just as vulnerable as you are. When you have full health and your shield is nearly popped, you can either duck in the ink and reposition, or you can tap fire to drop your shield. Both of these recharge your shield way faster than holding it out, although you’ll have to make sure you’re not a sitting duck first. I personally still run stealth jump, as brellas have the tendency to not work frequently. Plus being able to jump further in more consistently is nice. Come on, servers 😢 Anyways there’s my rant for the month, again very good video 👌

Ink Recovery Up doesn't just help your main weapon, but helps keep you topped off enough that you can drop mines without it putting as big of a dent in your playtime waiting for your tank to refill.

@@professorkyle My gear is: Comeback with 3 subs of Quick Respawn. Ink Recovery with 1 sub of Quick Super Jump, Ink Resistance and Bomb Defense each. Swim Speed Up with 2 subs of Run Speed Up and 1 sub of Ink Saver Sub. Is that gear okay for an Undercover Brella?
@professorkyle
@professorkyle Год назад
I'd call it pretty close to perfect! The only change I would make is to replace the sub of Ink Saver Sub with another sub of Run Speed Up - you won't be spamming Ink Mines or using them in a hurry, so most of the time you'll be able to take the extra time to recover that ink (especially with a main of Ink Recovery Up).

Hey great vid! I will throw in a little secret I found: Run Speed up is op on this weapon if you don´t walk and shoot! If you spam or use the Undercover like an Splat Brella your mobility is through the roof. There is no reason to hold the shield up when you paint after all. Use 3 mains of Run Speed and try it out (Thats how much I use) Ah yeah this is an totally different playstyle from yours so here are the abilities that work for me: Ink Saver Main: You will die without this because you use more ink than ususal Respawn Punisher: Ma boi right here! Less suicide slider for less special spam of the enemy Ink Recovery: You don´t swim as much so you need some of it 1 thing I love about Undercover is the different playstyles and I will remember the Ink Saver Main amount! Great advice! I am still trying to make this work and this playstyle is hard, but some matches worked really well like this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z4BRdkIOC4g.html

I personally like using sub power up and ink saver sub(unless ur using like a smart meta pick and use lde or whatever but, lol were talking about undercover here) it just find myself using my mine a whole lot when i use the udnercover, bcs its so helpful in getting chip damage and reducing ur shots to kill, so having a wider hit box that people could take 35 damage from its super helpful oh and also 3 sub of ink saver sub allowed u to put down 2 mines without having to wait to refull ur ink at all

Also, if you're not dying all that much, would it be recommendable to use Quick Respawn in tandem with Opening Gambit?
@professorkyle
@professorkyle 8 месяцев назад
I wouldn't recommend Opening Gambit with the Undercover Brella in any circumstances. The weapon doesn't have a ton of splatting power, and even with the mines it doesn't farm assists particularly well, so I think you would end up losing the OG boosts more often than not.
@StoryTeller796

@@professorkyle Would you recommend high speed, high special production, and high resistances/ink recovery. All 4 of these gear abilities are useful for speeding up the Undercover Brella so that the Undercover Brella can both stay near the opponents, quickly spin around them, and splat whoever you can. Here's my gear: Hat: Special Gain Up Main, Special Gain Up, Bomb Defense Up, and Ink Resistance Shirt: Ink Recovery Up Main, Ink Recovery Up, Ink Savor Main and Sub. Shoes: Swim Speed Up Main, Swim Speed Up, Walking Speed Up, and Superjump Speed Up Basically, a lot of explosions and a lot of me slowly overpowering and inking over the opponent's ink, even being able to slink into spots and wait around for everyone to start to move into spots where you can in turn take advantage of

I would skip Object Shredder on the Undercover Brella - even with it equipped, the Brella really struggles to break things. For example, the Rainmaker shield takes 11 shots to break without Object Shredder, but still needs 10 shots if you use it. You'll get better value out of other abilities.

It's slightly more useful than Stealth Jump, but not useful enough to justify dedicating a main ability slot to it. I would use that slot to add more Quick Respawn or Run Speed Up to your gear.

Considering that all Slayers and Skirmishers run Quick Respawn right now... And it's so strong that even support probably runs it. It's too meta when the maps don't have Flanks like you had in Splatoon 1 and 2. The Splatoon 3 is all about choke points that only have one practical path. To me, that means the wonderful element of Splatoon... The magic that made it so fun, is gone. It's really not surprising the Brella runs QR. To be honest, if high level Slayers didn't focus so much on trading, Brella might be the only one to benefit from it. Unfortunately, the need to apply pressure is so high that you lose pick diversity as a result. Avoiding Stealth Jump is the most important advice you offer... You left that for last! If they aren't going to buff Brella in Splatoon 3, whatever, but I really wish they would just roll back the last Nerfs to Brella in Splatoon 2 to at least restore the important weapon triangle so there is at least one competitive Splatoon on Switch. It feels like the changes they made to Splatoon 2 at the end were to test special spam for the next game and make Splatoon 2 miserably unplayable and force people to buy the next one. Yet specials are weaker than ever before and all the cool things about movement have been reduced to Squid Rolls.
