I have oc lore based on this! I like to think that 8 tends to hallucinate the Calamari inkantation often even after being saved

@@FRUITYOCTO21259Canonically Eight is just thinking about the song that changed their life, ever since first hearing it Eight hasn’t been able to get it off their mind. It’s the reason why Eight was humming it when Capn’ Cuttlefish found them in the metro. It’s the only thing they remember after losing their memories, so in a sense it’s the last tie Eight has to who they once were. Before of course regaining their memories after completing all the tests in the metro and getting all the Memcakes. Before losing them again in Side Order… Eight just has terrible luck with amnesia huh?

​@@zekromfan1from what it seemed like to me personally in the logs, it almost seemed as if Eight never got their memories back, as the memverse was made to help them (and other sanitized octolings/octarians) get their memories back after the events of Octo Expansion, and the announcement date of the memverse project, according to the logs again, was over 4 or 5 years ago, canonically after the final fest in 2.

Its a diagetic little touch, everyone who hears calamari incantation becomes pure. The more things you have in the expansion, the more notable the motif is. Its an auditory hallucination of 8.

I wouldn't even say that it's a "hallucination." Calamari Inkantation was quite literally a "beacon of light" for Octarians, literally causing them to defect away from Octavio. It literally speaks volumes on how much hope the Squid Sisters gave to these Octarians just through their songs. I wouldn't call Eight Schizoprenic just to fit a disability label, or call it a "Hallucination" but rather that the song held immense value to them that it's practically something Eight used to comfort/motivate themselves during the Escape. It's not an understatement that it's quite literally ingrained within their psyche as something immensely valuable to them. It just kinda sucks to demean it to "they hear the song because of them having hallucinations/schizoprenic episodes" vs The Song quite literally being a beacon of hope/comfort for Eight, it's the same way we all tend to find comfort in things/objects that hold immense value/meaning in our lives, ie: stuffed toys, music, passed down heirlooms, a letter from a loved one, etc.

The only thing that unites humanity is instances of tragedy. It's bittersweet.

@@Rose-wt7lw he’s still a salmonoid but all of the marine life in the splatoon stems from the same chips used to make the domes in Alterna! If you look at the logs it explains it better

And the craziest part is how they barely keep any money for themselves, that’s some serious dedication to being Splatoon’s version of Robbin hood incarnations!

I think that’s because there are no other sounds other than the jingle, in the game there is other noises in inkopolis along with it so it feels normal, it alone is just creepy

Indeed it is! It’s a mix of three motifs, so you’re right. Calamari Inkantation can be heard on the quieter synth near the end.

neither of the victory jingles from octo expansion are references to calamari inkantation, but rather to fly octo fly! :)

Yea, it's also known as the Octarioan Leitmotif.

It’s actually been used since the first splatoon game! The most notable uses are in the songs titled “Onward!” And the splatoon 1 checkpoints!
