Finally someone acknowledges the slowed, calmer rendition of City of Color present in Maritime Memory instead of calling Maritime Memory "slow Calimari Inkantation"🙏 Seriously why do people think that? it's sampled for like 15s in the song
@@sherbertshortkake6649 there’s also a video that contains the onward motif and everywhere it appears, which might be the source too. (I didn’t find rassicas until after i found the video im talking about.)
when you shoot marina's hyperbombs in the octo expansion final boss, the noise they make while exploding is also taken from the beginning of colour pulse
I believe there’s like a “things are going wrong” motif, which plays when the blender is starting up, the bad endings of OE and 3, and the song the Fish Sticks sing, though I could’ve been imagining things
@@Wasarety I once heard someone say it was Happy Little Workers with a ton of notes missing, which is kind of believable at certain parts of the bad ending theme.
the octo 8 step motif is also used in salmon run as the jingle that the scrapper’s shield plays! this is probably because it’s octarian tech - it’s actually a modified version of the shields that shielded octarians use
Such a good video! Also confirms why Shooting Starfish is one of the best Splatoon 2 songs if it’s got the reversed Calamari Inkantation. I really loved hearing all the references in Octo Expansion when I played it. 💕
Not sure if it’s intentional or a coincidence but I’m pretty sure there’s a reference to #19 bless in The Plan as well during the Shark Bytes portion. That brassy crescendo with an instant release appears in both. It’s my head canon that Dedf1sh is the one responsible for the song despite it mainly using motifs from Off The Hook.
I love it when game franchises use leitmotifs in thier soundtracks! Amazing video, really helpful for keeping track of them all. I was a bit surprised to find how many I hadn't recognized!
you forgot the bad ending jingle from octo expansion, you can hear it in different occasions in the game , like when tartar builds his blender or when you're on the tower in the tower control level in octo expansio, btw great vid
Finally someone talks about the songs in playing faintly in the square!! I thought I was goin crazy for a while cause ive literally seen nobody talk about it, i thought it was such a neat little detail.
You forgot, In Inkopolis Plaza when the train arrives you can hear it play Calamari Inkantation. And in Salmon run when you break the Scrappers box thing it plays this 1:11
3:20 For Coulor Pulse, there's also the Octo Expansion bad ending if you fail to stop tartar, a cutscene of inkopolice cover in sanitized ink with the creepy version of Color Pulse plays.
Not sure how confident I am on this, but one of Shiver's verses in Fins in the Air (right before the chorus) sounds exactly like one of Marina's verses in Color Pulse. Also don't forget the Anarchy Rainbow leitmotifs thay smother the Calamari Inkantation 3MIX (including the solo numbers), and the Calamari Inkantation portion of Wave Goodbye. Also the song that plays when you first meet the Squid Sisters.
This is seriously SUCH a cool video, they way you play the part, and transition into the other songs and sounds that contain it, it really makes it easy to understand and catch on immediately! Splatoon music is so layered, with many of them calling back to other related songs, it's really cool! Onward has been one of my favorite motifs since the first game, it's crazy seeing how many other songs have the same situation going on! ^^
I love these kinds of videos so much! Also, pretty sure City of Colours' melody is used in the instrumental of Spicy Calamari Inkantation as well And THANK YOU for acknowledging City of Colour in Maritime Memory. People keep calling it "Slow Calamari Inkantation", when really the main part of Maritime Memory is just "Slow City of Colours" xD
I’ve always loved the leitmotifs in this series, but I didn’t know there were so many! I also love the editing on how you go from the original into the other version (like tide goes out) I’m ready for the Splatoon 3 one once we get the song names!
I just realized that the boss theme from splatoon 2 (Octarmaments) uses the “Octo-legged advance” leitmotif in several parts. It’s more clear on phases 2 and 3.
My god. This is bringing back octo expansion and story mode memories. And splatfests too. I can’t play splatfests because they’re over and I have no friends to play splatoon 2 private battles with. So all I’ve got is memories now. Good few years of my life were with this game and now it’s pretty much over. Making me sad cause now I realize I’m getting older. Thanks Nintendo.
Awesome video, would love to see a followup for Splatoon 3. Also you missed the scrapper's dazed jingle for Octo Eight Step. I believe the connection being that the scrapper' s shield is made from discarded Octarian technology.
A theorist actually acknowledged and identified the notes before the Octo songs as a scale, so it might be an Octarian thing? A callback or easter egg the Nintendo musicians added?
i grew out my hear just long enough so i could sneak my airpods and have a "the plan" quietly playing on low in my maths gcse exam. it just a hype song. i got my hair cut after exams back to normal lol. it could also be a stretch but in "the plan" there's 2 seconds of music which sounds kind of a leitmotif to dj octavio. just a stretch
Why do I think this is so awesome? It's really so exciting, thank you for doing this. It's great to see that there's a large part of the community that cares about this stuff.
4:40 THANK YOU for this!! The Thang Jingle editing was a little choppy but still I never would have noticed this otherwise, the way you edited it made it so clear
One you missed for the splattack part is there is a very faint motif playing in the back of the track "the plan" during the part with the shark bytes motif. Its very very hard to hear so you gotta listen very closely.
You also missed the Scrapper's little jingle (when you break its shield) being another rendition of the onward leitmotif. And also, I don't know if this was intentional, but I was hoping that you would do Happy Little Workers since that's sort of become a thing.
Actually, when your in the subways station, the calamari incantation doesent play untill youre farther into the dlc. The reason for the calamari incantation is agent 8 dreaming about all the fun and happiness she’ll\he’ll get when she get when they make it to the surface.
2 things i noticed that weren't in the video - on the mc princess diaries stage marina's hyperbombs play the first note of color pulse when exploding (same instrument used) -in the shark bytes section of the plan, there's a really soft piano that plays splattack
I think it’s a bit odd how maritime memory is basically a song about all the memories, a song that has leitmotifs of all other important songs, but is not in the last game with squid sisters
The TEST PASSED! jingle is also present in Spicy calamari Inkantation I think (around 01:01 in the youtube uploads) It's easier to hear with headphone but they sound extremely similiar
1:11 THANK YOU!! FINALLY SOMEONE ACKNOWLEDGES THIS. ITS BEEN DRIVING ME INSANE FOR YEARS. WHAT DOES IT MEANNNNN??? Also there’s a few other songs with the Leitmotif (octarmaments etc.)
Cool video! Nice to see a compilation of the use of the different leitmotifs across the soundtrack. I think at the end, that's Ebb and Flow rather than Color Pulse
