The early footage for the game before EA decided it would be a game for kids was nuts, I still hold hte hope that one day a better company try to redo the concept.
It would've been like the 2005 beta version, only with better graphics. The only reason it was changed into a cartoon version was cause old computers couldnt handle it.
it really introduced a ton of us to speculative biology/evolution. C M Koseman helped to reveal some of my passions, and i think many in the fandom share this experience.
@@onehundredfifteen an alien from All Tomorrows they do a little trolling by genetically modifying any other species they find, and humanity was unlucky enough to stumble upon them one day
I’ve been seeing all tomorrow’s references in the comments lately, so let me give you a fun fact: In the space stage, you can actually gain the ability to modify existing creatures in different planets into whatever you want it to be, so you’re pretty much the Qu to these creatures
True, but you can choose to be the Qu and fuck up species whole genetics for your own "ideology", or be the beings at the center of the galaxy and provide life the the rest of the planets while also assisting them to become your newly developed brethren at the center
@@halvardtheulf4409 That's not how copyright works. There is no one preventing someone else to make a Spore clone. The reason why nobody is doing this is because the core gameplay is kind of awkward when you put off the nostalgia goggles. The game tried to be too many things at once and as a result a lot of its ideas felt undercooked. Even worse, the kind of studio that would be interested in recreating such a weird concept would be indies, which don't have the resources to build four different games and several in-game editors all for one project. So what people are doing instead is take one of those ideas individually and incorporate it in their own games, like The Eternal Cylinder.
@@Tamos40000 Spore could have been great, it was undercooked because it was rushed after EA bought out Maxis. If another studio wanted to revisit the idea and give it the time it needs to flesh it out properly, they could be sitting on an absolute cash cow. The problem is convincing a competent studio that the profits would be worth going through the trouble. The original vision of Spore was actually far larger than the final product we got. Whole stages such as the Aquatic Stage, which would have taken place somewhere between the Cell and Creature stages, had to be cut entirely. Even among the stages we did get, the scope got reduced and features were cut. The original artstyle was also going to be far less cartoony, but EA wanted to market it to children and teens as the primary demographic. It's definitely undeniable that the original ambition of Spore was no small task to try to accomplish however. Any studio who wants to achieve what they were unable to will, as you said, in all likeliness require more funding than just some indie studio. EA themselves seem content to let the Spore franchise rot lately though, so it seems unlikely it will come from them.
"How will you create the Universe?" ... Those words have been planted in my mind since I was six. I may not play Spore as much as I used to, but that doesn't mean I'll ever stop loving it. This trailer brings me years of nostalgia that I don't think I'll ever get back. I wish EA was more patient with the development of Spore when Maxis was making it. Otherwise, it would've been a lot better. After hearing that it could've had an Aquatic Stage, I was furious at EA ever since. Well, whatever, I'm just glad I got to play the game when I was little anyway. Otherwise, I'd never learn any of this. Okay, I'm done now.
@Dreymon Green It kinda is, But this game is still great. You shouldnt really judge the game based off of the company it was made from. Take others words for it. Also, it was made by maxis, owned by ea.
@@mauriciogonzales8839 formulaic to the point where it's plain repulsive. Some boring hollywood-esque music with ""quirky"" quotes injected every 3 seconds, obligatory strong female quipping and making unfunny jokes, bright adhd colour scheme and fortnite aethetic/gritty """realistic"" look with hipsters and brown people everywhere
@@Shiroi0moi , there's no bright color scheme, there's Teal & Orange automatic color correction which makes every frame look the same. The new Dune movie uses gray-blue and yellow scheme, yet is great example why it sometimes works terrible: Atreides palace on Kaladan and Arrakin palace indoors look same building even through it's different planet, uses different lighting etc.
Spore had such potential...its a shame EA half assed it then abandoned it soon after...thank God for the modding community that has been keeping the legacy alive.
I can’t tell if that was an official trailer, a really good animation over an okay song or just a drug trip that got put in a meat grinder with a fever dream and came out as a sensory overload.
it’s not on the official RU-vid account or any social media like the Twitter account, so for a long time I had no clue how real this was, beyond using actual creature sounds from the game.
I love how detailed this trailer is going through each and every thing you would see in the game 0:11 cell stage 0:14 creature creation 0:19 creature stage 0:23 bigger brain/tribal creation/migration 0:30 tribal stage 0:33 discovery of fire 0:39 civilizations stage 0:43 galactic/space stage 0:46 going to the middle of the galaxy 0:50 going to other worlds/planets Its so detailed and i love it
I desperately wanted Spore as a kid growing up. I remember begging my mom to get me it bc I saw a CD for it at a store for only like $5 but I was incredibly disappointed to find out it was only add-ons for the game
I always thought a Spore cartoon based on Galactic Adventures would’ve been a great spinoff. It could’ve focused on a Space Crew traveling through the Galaxy. There was potential for so many fun characters and locations, and the Grox would’ve been cool villains.
if you look in the background of the creature and tribal stage parts the creatures are not CGI special models but look exactly like real spore creations and even move like it
I ve created more than 5.406 creatures , 300 buildings , 500 vehicles , 6 empires , 10 Unlaunched Galactic adventures and 5 Games reset ........ All my creatures made in 2012 tho *2018* eliminated , destroyed AND THEN I REMAKE ALL MA CREATURES WITH MODS , I MAKE CIENTYFICALY ACCURATE SPORE CREATURES AND MORE , JUST FOR MY PC DIED
Even though spore was unfinished. It was still phenomenal for it's time and I've yet to see a game top what it did. Too bad Maxis is gone, a Spore 2 with modern technology and a high budget, left to be finished and polished would be the greatest game I've ever seen.
At first I just wanted to say that the trailer reminds me of "Solipsist" project by Andrew Tomas Huang, but I was curious enough to do some research and found out something interesting. So basically Andrew Huang made Solipsist video back in 2012 and then after it caught Björk's attention he made a couple music videos for her, starting from "mutual core". This Spore trailer WASN'T made by Andrew Huang in any capacity, HOWEVER it was made by studio Encyclopedia Pictura (I didn't find any info saying Huang ever worked with them) which also worked with Björk for her "Wanderlust" music video. Weird that Björk is somehow slightly entangled into this, but actually I kinda dig it. Imagine Björk adding her outlandish style to a new Spore game, that would look absolutely fantastic!
After looking at andrew huang's solipsist and a few things by björk, i agree completely. The colorful and strange but beautiful style would fit perfectly for spore. It would have been amazing if spore ended up looking like this trailer does.
There's a team working on a game called "Thrive" which plans to be like Spore but much more realistic. At the moment there's just single-celled organisms but the developers starting to work on multicellular stuff. The game is also free.
@@Keznen Cyberpunk is completely playable now, almost like an entirely different game. How it launched was unacceptable and it will never fully recover from that reputation, and it doesn't deserve to, but at least it wasn't abandoned like Spore.
@@johnpescatore7968 Spore is a complete game with an expansion actually worth buying (Galactic Adventures) and a thriving community of talented creators and modders. Also, its servers are thankfully still up, unlike its spin-off Darkspore. Darkspore actually was truly abandoned by EA.
@@Keznen Phantom Liberty was universally acclaimed by critics and fans? Cyberpunk has a thriving modding community too? Regardless, you said Cyberpunk is unplayable. That isn't true. Spore released in late 2008, and received its final update in early 2010, though the last legitimately available patch was released in mid-2009. Spore is a fun game with a lot of unrealized potential that EA never attempted to make come true. Cyberpunk is still receiving patches to this day, three years after release. I'm not going to argue with you about which game is better, the fact is that Cyberpunk is playable now and has received continuous support from its developers to try to fix the unjustifiable situation it launched in, whereas spore was a game that never realized its full potential and never was updated to be able to reach that potential.
@@johnpescatore7968 We said that back when it *was* unplayable. Obviously things have changed now. And Spore doesn't need any patches or updates. It's fully playable, fully enjoyable, and just because it wasn't exactly like how it was planned to be doesn't make it a bad game. Also, Galactic Adventures is one of the only expansion packs ever to actually be worth the money. Spore might not be an accurate and detailed evolution simulator, but its potential for creativity both visually and in storytelling more than makes up for that.
Seeing really old trailers for really old games (usually games that I liked when I was younger or games that people feel nostalgic for) is something I feel super weird for. Sometimes I know what the feeling is, like if it's a game I had at least a few memories of I know it's nostalgia, but if I never played or heard of the game when I was younger I have the same feeling, but it's definitely not nostalgia
Gosh, I remember getting the special edition Galaxy pack for my 10th birthday. It was the coolest thing ever! I still have the disc and poster it came with. I just wish it didn't have only 3 installs. I'd love to put it on my laptop now.
I come back to this one trailer about every month, its constantly stuck in my head and for being before 2008 this animation is fucking astounding. I adore it and the song and this trailer feels like its for a completely different game.. Its so pretty..
Lyrics: How will it be when you can choose what you turn into? Time to grooooooow. What kind of creature are you? Feathers? Or fins? Or snarles? Or breaths? (Not sure about that.) Would you rather hunt or gaaaaatherrr? Why does this traffic (not sure) city halls? Where do we go from here? When will we lift off this planet? Why lies above the way beyoooond? When we all meet up what big things will BEEEEEEE? (Not sure) How will you create the universe? Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum
EA: Will Wright, we're gonna have to make some changes. Why, you ask? Corporate greed of course. Now if you excuse us, we're going to release the same sports game as we did for the past 10 years. By the way, the amount of content you gave us for Sims 4 is amazing. We're gonna make so much money when we divide it up into separate paid DLC bundles each at the price of a full game! In fact, lets do that with Spore as well.
And that, folks, is why I still haven't bought Spore despite wanting it for a _long_ time: Each DLC pack costs as much as the base game. (Mind you that, by that logic, I shouldn't have any problem since the DLC for Roller Coaster Tycoon Classic on mobile _also_ costs as much as the base game, but the difference is that I have actually played the content in that game in RCT 1 and 2 for a while - especially the latter as a kid - before getting RCT Classic for my phone. With Spore, I have no childhood experiences, so the indecision remains.)
@Supersum Creations What are you talking about? Spore only has one expansion pack: Galactic Adventures, which is well worth the money since it adds a whole new gameplay aspect/feature. Its only other official DLC is a parts pack that's on sale for only $4.99 right now on Origin.
Exactly. And not to mention, the people that say that haven't even actually played the game. Spore is amazing and everyone who actually plays it knows that.
Spore will always be my favorite game of all time, yes It may have not lived up to expectations to many, but for me it will always be an amazing game with unlimited potential when it comes to unleashing my creativity, so many hours creating and evolving so many creatures, and building adventures. I even have fond memories of the spin off games that were released on nintendo consoles too, like Spore and it's spin offs really gave me the drive to create my own characters, worlds, and stories. I would not be the same human being if I never came across Spore or any of it's spin offs cause the spin offs is how I first heard of spore. Either way, I'm going to love Spore no matter what.
Molecular Stage was removed early on because it was boring; it was literally just Tetris. Aquatic Stage wasn't added because it was too hard to code at the time. Not sure what happened to City Stage, but Terraforming is a part of Space Stage so it was probably just merged. Also, you can get access to the full cell editor with mods. Spore's modding community is a goldmine.
Imagine being a speculative evolution fan in the late 2000's. You've just finished Kosemen's "All Tomorrows" where an alien invader species essentially plays god and then Spore comes out and hits you with a "How will you create the universe?" like it's a game adaptation of it, and not one where you're playing as humans or their descendants.
This game looks amazing! I'M SOOOO HYPED!!! I'm definitely going to buy it when it releases! I have never seen a game as creative and interesting as this!
@@Torfesk Is this not a new game? I thought this was a similar case to Star Wars Battlefront II (they had one of the ps2 and then a totally different game later on)
@@Torfesk I just checked the date this video was uploaded! aaaaaaa! I didn't recognise this as actual spore because it doesn't look like the original game (I thought it had to be a newer version with aquatic stage and new body parts)
There's a couple games openly inspired by it like Thrive and Species, but those are both WIP and Species in particular doesn't seem nearly as fun and interactive as Spore is.
It is a legend as it is. It's a unique game with extreme character customization seen nowhere else, an expansion pack that's actually worth buying, and an active community that still loves and plays it to this day and have even created some really fun mods for it. And that's not even getting into what some extremely creative people have done with it. Spore might not be exactly as the trailers promised, nor is it a super realistic evolution simulator, but it's a fun game and no other finished game is truly like it.
Also don’t like how when you get to the galactic stage the vast majority of species on your planet disappear and epics are gone, they could’ve at least had some kind of T4 for homeworlds that lets them keep all their species the same way homeworlds can have 10 cities
I wish EA would release spore and license it to a different company so we can have a spore that’s even prettier and that crashes way less. I would love this.
How often does Spore crash for you? It's not normal for it to crash a lot unless you have a weak computer or have done something to it to make it unstable.
