dude, totally custom, and totally awesome. The truck looks great. Didn't expect to see a build on a sport trac but I'm glad I found this video. keep it up
Simple Instinct I just got a sport trac, not 4wd though... wanted to mod it more to accommodate meals and haul a yurt. Trying to figure out a rack that will allow me to keep tonneau on. Could you open your tonneau fully?
@@txdunn Bro, check out Munnday86 on youtube. Sorr, dunno how to link it. but dude's sport trac is HOOKED UP! Nothin against you, Simple Instinct. BOth ya'lls are cool for your own reasons.
over 10 years welding and fabricating. just because youre not experienced, yet you learned the lesson and made a nice finished product, dont put down yourself. we had welders that could weld any good fitting frame as long as things are perfectly bent or drilled, or cut. the best of us could take a frame with a weld seam in the tubing split, and weld up the seam and make it all look like there was no defect, and there was no loss of strength. i would advise to move the HiLift jack to a place in the inside of the over bed frame, where it wont normally be an issue accessing things inside of the bed, itll be easier to access, and place more weight over the rear wheels, and not risk banging up the cab. my cousin repeatedly beat up a rangers cab, same area. eventually it caused the rear window to pop out. this isnt a welding or fabrication idea, but imm always willing to help. go out to a good outfitters for hikers and others who venture off the beaten path, get a GPS locator beacon. its the best thing to get pinpoint rescue if there are no other options. hell, im no longer able to walk, but i carry a beacon with me. if i were to get caught in a flash flood i would throw on my emergency pack, turn on the beacon, since its hard to fight the world from a wheelchair lol
Great video, man! Love what you're doing, love the mods, love the lifestyle. I have a 2002 Trac 4x4, and I love it. Lots of mods on mine. None as cool as yours yet haha, but still workin on it. Mainly just suspension on mine, as the previous 2 owners used it as a farm/hauling/beater truck... CB for listening to truckers is a great idea. Love the rear seat mod!! I had mine flipped-down for about 6 months, but keeping your mod in mind for if I ever turn mine into a work/adventure truck. Thanks for the vid! Good luck with the braces! haha had mine 2 years in high school, and SOO glad when I got em off... Got a lot of compliments, though, so overall I guess theyu're worth it. Cheers man keep on truckin.
I friggin love my 02 4x4 up here in Alberta, it's perfect for us country folk who have moved to urban homestead. By far the most useful vehicle I have owned, I think around 11, small cars, sport cars, vans, trucks. The sport trac is purfect for my family it has 249000ish km's on it and I plan on keeping it till I die, so she's getting babied and well looked after plus customised to my liking. The shovel and are is awesome, I want to get a front bumper to hold a winch next year with pass guide underneath for rear use and set up dual batteries like you have done.
@@simpleinstinct i’ve actually had an 01 for a while I love it but I’ve started having pcv issues with it, the valve, hose and breather tube have all been replaced and it’s better than it was but somethings still wrong with it, the engine light won’t go off and rough idle I have no clue what it is so I’m going to have to take it to a shop when I get paid
These engines have 6 timing chains that are use a plastic tensioner. One of those might be failing. It's a really common issue. Hopefully it's not that. Maybe try cleaning up the throttle body housing first.
Thanks for watching. I don't think the recovery bag needs a full video though. It's pretty basic. If you have any specific questions about it, let me know.
Hi Cody, great videos! I’m quite interested in the bed rack and the roof rack you built, do you have a video about making them or maybe plans/working drawings? I have an 04 4x4 and I love what you’ve done to yours.
Finely some one post a video on the sport trac, great video. We have a 01 4x4 that we are going to lift and do a lot of the same things you did. how did it handle after you did the front lift?
The handling was okay. With everything on there it was a little top heavy. If I had put the new body mounts on, it most likely would've improved. Thank you for watching!
Thank you for subscribing! Be prepared to put some work in, old trucks need maintenance. There are a few helpful Facebook groups if you buy a Sport Trac.
I have an 02 autumn red on 32s 2 inch left shackles in the rear and coilover conversion up front on 2.0 emulsion shocks on 750lb srpings. 5.0 ohv swap 4r70w trans with an E shift 4406 t case. I absolutely love my sport trac. I have no desire to get a new truck. Im set
A steering wheel NOB would make it complete,i have a 02 model ,I picked this one up from my DOCTOR,he bought it new , I'm working on getting it up in good condition, it only has,145'000 miles, .. 😅
Excellent job man. I see you are a Washingtonian, I would love a way to get that bed rack. I know you made it yourself, do you know of other avenues for that or are you looking to make a few :)
Love the truck man!!!! I am also in Va. I have a 2 door with 200k....lov ur build and if you ever sell, just saying, let me know. Front Royal, Va. Later!
Hey man! I bought the third brake light from Amazon that you had installed on this Sport Trac. It looks like the female connecter is hidden in the headliner somewhere. Was wondering if you remembered how you installed that light!
can yoou list where you purchased all the parts you used to modify your truck. I recently purchased a 2004 sport trac xlt 4wd and want to put a lift kit on it and lights .
Just found your build page and video. I wanna make a similar rack for my Sport Trac. What size angle iron did you use 2 or 3 inch? 1/8" thick? And what size square tubing? Thanks!
Simple Instinct, Impressive! I just bought a 2002 Sport Trac for work and I need to install a ladder rack but no one has a good solution so far. The composite bed is a problem as you can't clamp underneath the top edge of the bed. Any ideas on this?
The rack I made was mounted using the tie down mounts. You could make a rack the same way. I'm not sure what the tie down mounts are rated for, but I never saw any wear on the bed. Thank you for watching!
When you welded the bend in the angle iron did you weld it while put in place on the vehicle or off of it? I ask because I worry welding it on the truck itself might short circuit the computer or something.
In the front, there is a torsion twist. In the rear, I put an additional leaf spring. Otherwise no lift. Wheels where steel 16s with a 0 offset. Tires were 265s
I think I sold it around 200k miles. At this point, unless you specifically WANT one of these, I wouldn't buy it now. On the other hand, if you're a decent mechanic, OEM parts are very cheap.
@@simpleinstinct gotcha I have one that is 200,000 miles that is really clean 2007 that I’m thinking about getting but I’m concerned that parts may be harder to get sure to the limited years this was in production. Are you familiar with the 4.0 and how much more could you take get out of one of these beyond 200k?
I don't like the 2nd generation Sport tracs because of the independent rear suspension. Admittedly, I know way less about the 2nd gens. For that engine, you might want to look into the timing chains. I know on a 1st gen it's a huge issue.
Hey man did you just do a torsion lift on that truck? I've got the same year make and model and have been trying to find a lift or long travel suspension for it and can't find anything?
@@simpleinstinct man I've put that truck threw hell in Southwest and souther NM with it at stock height. And down some roads I should have never ventured down in it. I just want some more height for comfort
Simple Instinct thanks man. I noticed that. I will try tomorrow. Going to upgrade the wheels ASAP. Just picked up a 2005 with only 83000. Think it needs new shocks. I want to use it for the beach and light off-road. Any thoughts or recommendations for shocks and lift parts would be awesome!!!!
I had Rancho shocks and they did pretty decent considering the way I treated them. There isn't much out there for lifting these trucks. All the kits are long gone. Since the rear leaf pack is probably toast i would replace some of those springs. I used jeep Cherokee springs in mine.
