Such facts, I've owned my 07 ST v8 for 1 1/2 years now and I've filled up the bed countless times with trash or heavy loads, atleast 3 times the payload weight exceeded 1,200lbs and the little truck takes it like a champ. My friends with F150s and Silverados are lifting them and racing them lol.

I have a 2010. Runs like a champ. Got it originally for a cheap work truck. It gets the job done. I use it for landscaping, hauling concrete, logs, power equipment... the works. My buddy's got a Silverado and he hasn't hauled anything but wrappers and soda cans. It's the work you do that makes your truck a real truck.

The best thing you can do concerning the timing chain is use guality oil, don't run it hot, and change the oil at 3k miles sharp. What fails is the plastic timing chain guides, especially the one in the back of the engine.

This is how the truck is broken down. Explorer sport front clip, cab section is from a 4 do explorer. All parts in this area are interchangeable. Bed is from a crew cab F250 short bed. Great thing about this is the bed extender tube frame ford gave out with those trucks fits perfectly on the sport trac. Ohh, by the way. A 4.6 will fit in this truck. It requires customized motor mounts, but that's it. There was some wiring mods we had to do to splice the speedo and gage signals to work with the existing dash. I helped with he build and when my 4.0 goes, that is gonna be the replacement

My 2002 Sport Trac is currently at 231,000 miles and still runs great. I've been looking at the 2022 Ford Maverick which to me is just a Sport Trac with a new name and modern safety technology. I will keep driving my "Sporty" until she can no longer move under its own power and then hopefully I will upgrade to a new Ford Maverick.

I actually swapped in a black older Ranger gauge cluster into my sport trac. But the Speedo is different so it’s 10 mph off since it starts at 10 and not 0 😐😐. But I needed a gauge cluster replacement since multiple gauges failed and the odometer stopped working.

I owned a 02’ Ford, I beaten the snot out of it, easily overloaded its trailer pulling weight. The Cologne Engine never gave me issues, never when scrapping, never when off-roading. I unfortunately totaled it on a frame issue being too expensive to fix for the model, and swapped it all into a rolling body; which ironically, when being switched over the Control Arm for the Timing Chain fell into the oil pan and amazed the mechanic that my sport Trac drove in the shop, let alone drive like how it was without losing any power. It sucks to see tho the Sport Tracs with the Cyclone Engine apparently weren’t as reliable as others, according to most Sport Trac owners on forums talking about how they upgraded from their old 02 at 270k miles and then have an engine issue by the time they hit 90k on their 10’.

Nice Video! I LOVE my 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLS! I bought mine used in 2006 with just 10,000 miles and have had it for 16 years now in 2022. I have only 94,000 miles as of 2022. NO rattle on start up like the video alleges. NONE. It is a REAL truck. I have hauled 8' lumber....no problem. I have hauled 16' moulding....no problem. I have towed 4,000 lb loaded trailers...no problem (not in mountains!, that could be slow but not a big problem). I don't know why Ford made the Sport Trac truck in only a V6, but offered the Explorer SUV in a V8?! Trucks need more power?? I have zero complaints about my Sport Trac except 1.....horrible gas mileage. You would think a 6 cylinder would be pretty good. NAY. 14 city....18 Hwy is what I get! But Fords have never been known for good MPG. My 1974 Ford Ranchero GT (beautiful looking) with a 302 Cubic Inch V8 got the same MPG but was gutless....less power with that 2 barrel carburetor vs the 6 cylinder Sport Trac with fuel injection!! In 94,000 miles I have not done much major work on my Sport Trac.....Water Pump, Radiator leak, Fuel pump, Serpentine belt....thats it...besides the normal brakes, tires and oil service! Good TRUCK!! I Love Mine!! Give it regular TLC and it will do you well!! Its bound to become a quirky classic!! Im keeping mine!! It will be in my will for my heirs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And you can park this 4 dr 5 passenger truck in a compact space. Try that in a crew cab 8' or 6' bed Silverado or F150!! They have to back in to a parking space!!!

I enjoyed your enthusiastic video. I just bought a used 2004 sport trac with 227k and drove it home and suddenly got a rattle in the engine. Yep, rear timing chain. Yep, he probably had been told, get rid of this truck. First thing I had to do was contact my friend that fixes things and got him to find me another engine. So now, today I have another engine with 127k on it and luckily he discovered the rear chain guide was bad on this one before installation. So I have a new one in this engine. Love the truck and now runs fine. So everything you said about this truck is true. Hope I can enjoy this one as much as you have yours..

The Avalanche is on the same platform as the Suburban, and it has a midgate. First gens came with the 5.3L and 4L60E or 8.1L and 4L80E. Second gens came with the 5.3L or 6.0L with a 4L60E in the first 2 years, and a 6L80E for the remainder of the generation. Bedlength is 5ft, and with the midgate down, you get 8ft. Bed width is 50 inches. So basically, you get a smoother and more comfortable CCSB Silverado since it’s on the Suburban chassis, that you can turn into a RCLB Silverado whenever needed.

Believe it or not; the Avalanch and the Escalade EXT & ESV were the answering sport utility trucks to the Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Hence why those trucks were introduced. Their actually in the same class as the Sport Trac with bed size and crewcab design. Pay enough attention to design similarities and you've got the same concept with all vehicles. They all copy cat another vehicle. I've got an 01' Sport Trac Gen. 2 with the 02' Ranger engine. Wonderful piece of work that I've had since February 23' with 189,002 original miles on it. Runs great and hasn't had any issues of major replacements or failures. Especially after I've already put an additional 1,900 on it with just work.😊

Got a 2002 with 212k miles, rides smooth and quiet. Couple of annoying unimportant problems like a bad door lock actuator, outside temp/compass display is out, etc. Only real problem is a small rear main seal leak, oil pan too. I'll lose about a quart every 5k miles, so I change it every 3-4k. It's been a decent pickup. Other than all the regular maintenance costs, I'm not going to invest too much money if something expensive breaks at this point. If I can just squeeze another 38k miles out of it, I'll be pretty satisfied lol.

"The engines don't last." Sure they won't last if they weren't properly broken-in from the start and weren't serviced properly during it's life. I own a 2005 Sportrac since new and now in 2022 it runs better than new. I changed the oil every 3000 miles, kept the filters clean, serviced the transmission and more. The best thing I did was to put tires and rims from a Jeep Safari on. I had to get and adapter in order to fit them. I didn't need to raise the suspension, it was a plug and play. The ride is much smoother now and the speedometer is much more accurate. Before, when I passed the speed indicator signs doing 30 on my speedo, it indicated that I was doing 27mph. After fitting it with Jeep wheels, it indicated correctly that I was doing 30.

I rebuilt the 5r55e tranny myself at 180k and it was still working when the engine finally gave out. I'd love a 4bt or a 4.6 swap it out now body is still mint and frame is rust free. She might be small but that bitch worked way above her weight class. The reliably of the 4.0 is change the oil at 3k every time. This truck is the easiest oil change ever . * I OWN A 2003 SPORT TRAC V6-AUTO-RWD 4X2 and I concur. "IT IS NOT A REAL TRUCK". More like a crew cab El Ranchero or El Camino. i.e. CAR CHASSIS , 4.0L car engine, 5r55 CAR TRANSMISSION, and a tiny truck style bed.*

Nope. I had a Ranchero. This Sport Trac is much more TRUCK than that Ranchero "full size" car/truck. Ive hauled everything I need to in this truck.. Much more than the Ranchero could. 4x8' panels, 8' lumber, 16' mouldings, 70" Televisions, 8' sofas, towed 8' trailers full at 4500 lbs. Its a TRUCK!! As much or more as my Toyota 3/4 ton could haul.

Early 2000s fords are amazing, we’ve had a ton a ton of them no issues and high mileage, new ford on the other hand, we had one, a 2018 Explorer, biggest piece of crap we’ve ever owned

I’ve got a Leer fiberglass shell on my 2010, painted to match. We’ve got one of those over the tailgate tent door with the zipper and screen. With the tailgate down and the shell glass up, my wife and I both can sleep comfortably in the back (I’m 5’8” , she’s shorter) with some gear in there, also. We love it!

I bought a A.R.E topper for my 2004 in 2020. It ain't cheap but it makes the truck look great and it creates more cargo space as well!

I have had mine 3 years n not had one single problem what I tell people that swear by chevy then if their so good why did they go BANKRUPTED I've worked in auto industry for 45 years n I've noticed the difference in quality n ford was much better I know people that got rangers f 150 escort tempos n they got anywhere from 200,000 to over 350,000 miles on them n still run n drive from point a to z sure headliner gone windows dont work plastic all broke but still run friend has a ranger 4.0 with 358,00 thousand miles on it n still runs n drives fine best cars I've ever owned were always fords never had problems never ya starter alternator etc.normal stuff but all n all best vehicles I've ever had. Even scotty Kilmer on utube tells dont get a gm or Chrysler products junk today but then again all the companies quality has gone down get what I pay for

I think Ford’s reliability in the late 90’s & early 00’s was actually some of their best besides crap like the Contour, Taurus, Windstar, Aspire & Escort. If you think they were struggling with reliability then, just look at them now. As a lifetime Ford guy it’s quite sad to see where they are now.

My father inlaw has a 2010 explorer and it has the original sohc 4.0 engine pushing 330k miles now with zero issues, starts up quietly and runs smooth. The real good news is if the chains do go bad you can just swap the engine with something better like a Windsor or a..........LS

To much rambling, like he was sitting around talking out of boredom, and repeating the same thing's over and over and over quite a few times about different things, and in a informative video we don't need to know about u maybe getting a job to get a different vehicle, we came here to hear about the truck, which u did well but about found on road dead over and over, sorry I don't ever put in my thoughts, please don't stop making videos of u like to, just some input, and that's only my input, I may be off with it, don't take it personal, people watching this usually watch many videos and just want facts and personal things slow this way down. So some of us fast forward when it starts and continues so we miss some things. Thanks for listening

HEADGASKETs shouldn’t go until closer to 200k my mountaineer with the 5.0 v8 didn’t blow the headgasket till 230k and I was putting 100 miles on it everyday. Hard plastic parts are the dumbest idea around they wear out way quicker and lot less reliable.
