I have been watching your channel for a while. As a larger bodied (aka fat) person, I wasn't quite sure how to take your recent content. There is a snowballs chance in hell I would have the courage to step into a crossfit gym myself at this size.... I am absolutely fascinated by the sport/the games, which is how I ended up down this rabbit hole of following you. I have been surprised at actually enjoying and even being a bit inspired by the latest videos. While I will probably stay at the Y as I lose weight, this has really helped shift my mindset.
As a fellow larger body, if you want to go to a CrossFit gym then go. I was supported and encouraged even when I was too weak to support myself during a lunge. Everything can be modified. Also I felt less judged there than when I went to the Y. 😂
Dude people like you are the coolest people in the crossfit gym. When you step foot in there, you are braver than all the jacked guys in there. They had nothing to overcome walking in the door. You however prove you're a brave man willing to accept a big challenge when you walk in. Good look dude!!!
Get to the CF box. You're going to find the most supportive community in the world. Hopefully, you'll also find a great coach that is going to help you accomplish so much more than you possibly could on your own at the Y. Worst case scenario, the Y will also be there... Just go!
Sporty-Beth!.. The low tier Batman villain of the crossfit world!!!.. Throwing shade at all from up on high, riding ppl down atop her toxic high horse!!.. (She named her horse "Body Positivity") 😂😂😂
At 11:25 Athena’s point “but is it totally up to you?” And her explanation for the question around shame and diet culture is 🙌 feel like it was a small part of this video and want to recognize it. So good, so true!
That's her thing right? I've tried to watch a couple just so I wasn't being a "I don't like her, no I don't watch her videos" person. Like many of the "I don't like Hiller" people do. But.. I can't do it. She's toxic. Negative and just a downer. There's enough of that everywhere else, the eeyore personality doesn't belong in the crossfit space. Imo
I’m enjoying your collaboration and conversation. You’re both learning. I would love to have you bring in a perspective of someone who has gone through childbirth when not an elite athlete if you want to discuss pregnancy fitness with nuance - elite athlete moms are the exception rather than the rule. I went into second pregnancy at my healthiest ever and faced a lot of heath challenges that I don’t normally have (extremely low blood pressure, food aversions, ongoing nausea, severe sinus infections and more) that meant my normal routine was not possible. While there are issues with how Beth presents herself online and as a fitness influencer, I think it’s a challenge to discuss how pregnancy is impacting her without some additional perspective.
Flat out crying about it is more like it. People were constantly pointing it out and not focusing on her fitness or performance and she was so self conscious about it. It was really heartbreaking.
I think we need a Hiller and Athena video at least once a month. This video had me 😂😂. Beth has proven about 1,000 times now how much she does not know. If she’s that “triggered” she needs to stay off the damn internet and most definitely not have a RU-vid channel. Banning those that don’t have the same opinion as you is an echo chamber and you stay small minded. No growth, but maybe that is her intention?🧐 she is a train wreck and I’m not riding the crazy train. Wait until she has the baby and says “I cannot do this breastfeeding thing, it’s too HARD and I don’t have the mental space for it.” Quote me. She hasn’t scratch the surface of how hard it’s about to get with the sleep deprivation and what true exhaustion is. She has no idea, but she’s about to.
I know right. She is finding it "SO hard" at week three!! I'm sorry but she needs to stop lying to herself and face reality. Her mind will create even more problems and issues for this pregnancy and that baby as she raises it.
If you are asking the world to walk on eggshells because you will be "triggered" into a relapse, YOU have not done enough work on yourself to safely navigate that environment. So if you are on social media pushing for large bodies to get healthy as a brand but telling the world don't comment negatively because you will be triggered, you should get off social media for a while. Nice video Hiller. :)
This is SO TRUE. I am an drug addict in recovery. If people would need to consider my feelings every single time I am near them they would murder me, lol. My addiction is MY problem, not other people's. People who expect other people to chance for them are dilusional.
I've lost 248 lbs. Best thing I've ever done for myself. I'm 205 lbs and have 30 to 40 lbs left. My mental health has improved along with my glucose, blood pressure and all other things!
@facelessnameless I couldn't fathom charging anyone for sharing what worked for me. I want everyone to feel as good as me and enjoy a long healthy life.
This is Athena! She and I are working together as she makes an attmept to be the first individual in CrossFit to loose over 300LBS. We have been doing a weekly podcast on Monday's discussing her progress. I should've noted all this in the video!
@@JustMove365Challenge I have watched the ones popping up on my feed. Steroid accusations. Talking about the downfall of crossfit athletes. Just not a very positive channel
I will say pregnancy is different for every female. Disagree 100% that a healthy body guarantees healthy pregnancy. I did zero to cause my hemmorhaging. 120lb, 5'5, half marathoner and crossfitter. On bedrest from 16 weeks til i gave birth. 2nd pregnancy, worked out until the day i gave birth and was back at the gym 5 days post partum. I usually agree with most of what you say. But healthy body does NOT guarantee healthy pregnancy just like breastfeeding does not guarantee healthy kids. (Breastfed strictly both children and 2nd born has health challenges)
But Hiller argues in another video that Tia is or has been on enhancement drugs. Sooooo....how likely is Tia to then feel the same, act the same as most women who don't use. And would Tia post a video of her NOT doing well as Hiller's other argument in that same video was that her willingness to express her weakness in the face of anything adversarial disappeared with the use of enhancement drugs. Hiller is not a doctor and is likely filtering what he hears, learns with the same filter of those that watch crime videos and think they can solve a crime.
Litterally everyone that was "big", did crossfit (or any sport), put in the effort to control their food intake, knows what youre talking about. Literally everyone. Me included. Problem is, we are not her target audience/clientele. She makes her money from the people that really need help but are afraid to face themselves and their own problems. They dont watch you or your content. Find a way to reach them.
I worked 40 hours as a stylist on my feet all day still went to the gym everyday all the way up to my due date! Blah blah blah everyone is different but the healthier your body mass is the better your pregnancy is going to be.
Oooh ok, I really don't like sporty Beth BUT extreme morning sickness isn't related to being overweight necessarily, I was in great shape before my pregnancy but the sickness absolutely floored me. That said she is such a whiner! And the point about filming herself throwing up in the toilet cracked me up! She's so weird
Im pregnant with my 4th. I was competing in local crossfit competitions last year. I still train everyday tho not crossfit, the speed of the movements makes me super nauseous. Instead, I'm focussing on olympic lifting, swimming and running but I am still training 5- 6x a week. Mad respect to the elites who continue training throughout their pregnancy guess they're just built different.
only halfway through so not sure if you make this point. I dont think a healthier body guarantees an easier pregnancy than someone else, BUT it does 100% guarantee an easier pregnancy than if that SAME body was less healthy… does that make sense?
in other words a healthier sportybeth will have an easier pregnancy than an unhealthy sportybeth 100% of the time, but a healthy sportybeth isnt guaranteed to have an easier pregnancy than her neighbor just bc they might have slightly worse health markers (but still probably)
Was going to say similar, also depends on definition of health. At one point Hiller mentioned they're "shredded" as if that's a health marker Interesting to compare to people who may have taken PEDs too and where that skews the "health" scale
I think Camille Bazinet had a rough pregnancy. I used to follow sporty Beth but stopped because I didn’t agree with most of the messages she sends out. With pregnancy everyone is different so I get why she’s training how she is. 2 pregnancies, worked out during both until the day before giving birth. I also PR’d in a couple of lifts during both pregnancies 🤪 with all that being said, she is not the best example for larger body athletes. I’m 5’7 and weigh 198lbs and I don’t agree with most of what she posts. It would make sense if she would eat clean 85% of the time and exercise as much as the says she is but stays the same weight instead of feeling like you see she has gained weight since her last video. She’s only sharing what makes her look like she believes in the message she’s sending out and probably not what proves that she’s really not.
My wife is in decent shape and was laid out with morning sickness. I think it depends on the woman. Happened for my wife 3 times over, sick for the whole pregnancy
As someone who is not knowledgeable with either parties - Beth's or Andrew's channel - I dont feel like fraud is the right word. Clearly she has some anxieties due to the pregnancy that may have led to some misguided changes to her routine. I do strongly agree with what Athena said on complacency. But most comments on Beths channel are more to do with her size then her actual fitness. And if we're talking about weight loss, the diet should take front and centre. Her channel isn't really about food & diet. Perhaps its too triggering for her. There was a time I could not hear about calories or macros. It would send me into a restrict and binge cycle - where I'd ultimately be fatter by the end of. If you dont have a complicated relationship with food, you simply cant relate and thats fine. But I'd recon Beth's issue with dieting and restricting is similar to what I had. It can be overcome, but its a long road that requires much emotional work.
Ya but at week “3” of pregnancy when the baby is literally a collection of cells? No way. Plus most women don’t even have enough hcg in their blood until right around week 4 to even confirm pregnancy
Athena & Andrew, A&A, the AA, the Double A-Team... IMHO, you should absolutely name this duo. It's a terrific (Or is it terrifit 😂?) one, like salt & pepper (Salthena & PeppHiller?!!). More! Please.
No man chooses evil because it is evil; he only mistakes it for happiness, the good he seeks. -Mary Shelley Opinion: Sporty Beth understands she’s chosen evil (bad habits and complaining of things only she can change). And is now condoning that evil instead of calling it evil and humbly making the change we all have to inevitably make to produce change.
I think she has created a narrative that she believed into existence and it’s fueled by excuses. Being pregnant is not special and women with complications in pregnancy is also not special. It’s how SB feels she needs to justify everything she does with an excuse that “is out of her control” that’s so toxic. Like no one gives a damn about what you’re doing, just quit with the victim mindset, blaming others, and constant excuses.
From what I have seen in her clips on her channel there is no way I would follow her lead on any level of fitness or nutrition. I feel sorry for the individuals who have wasted their time and money having her as a coach. Then again I have coaches who walk the walk and talk the talk. YES I AGREE SHE IS A FRAUD!!
Do we know where and when the seminar will be in the UK? Lots of interesting points in the video. Watched it with my wife who has been pregnant twice. She had thoughts.
Kate Middleton had a famously difficult pregnancy. She's naturally quite athletic but perhaps not in her princess life. Some women have very difficult pregnancy with nausea and morning sickness. With that said, the description of her situation sounds quite hyperbolic. It also sounds compulsive to exercise despite it wiping you out. Doesn't sound like she was able to apply herself properly to her job
Thanks for the awesome vid Andrew. Athena, you are incredible and I am so excited to watch your journey. Thank you both for inputting your thoughts on this and keep posting !!
I will be so glad when we are past this over exaggerating dramatic language that’s common. “It was literally wreaking absolute havoc” “it was the worst thing EVER!” “I was dying” “I was catatonic” “my elbows were going to rip off the bone” “my organs were poking out between my abs” I’m picking on her here but it’s so common. 😵💫
First trimester is no joke lol. Low iron for me i think made it worse and only found that out second pregnancy third trimester with twins. Both rough. Needed medication. I think health plays a part for sure, somethings out of wack but it is quite hard. This video could have done with a medical expert on it also or birthfit :) ❤ would have been cool
Tbh a girl used to train with us nice girl but every workout she had something wrong with her tbh just reminded me of the army where you always had the sick notes that had excuses not to do PT
Yes! I wish they had someone who was knowledgeable about pregnancy if they were going to call all of these things "excuses." Just like pull-ups, which can cause diastasis recti (which could be the "pulling" sensation she was describing). Maybe they are excuses for her, but these are real things that some pregnant women do deal with.
I was thinking the same thing; and cringing about a pregnant woman hanging from high up falling or jumping down from a pull up; I mean your body is not the same/ balance and centre of gravity, etc. I think it is best to follow your dr’s orders while working out during pregnancy-
We need more of like Andrew and Athena doing such videos. i feel Andrew's video can be a bit too much anger sometimes but Athena's reaction/response sort of neutralize or makes what Andrew spew out becomes more chewable lol. But overall good content. Athena is 10/10. come on Andrew HAHAHA ....
Controversial thought I say that for context in that i strongly dislike SB and have of course been blocked by her... I spend every car ride to work work listening to Hiller and Sevan and am fully allighend with 99 percent of opinions. It all resonates I think maybe juat drop the content on this nobody as (hopefully not) if she topped herself you are rightly or (although certainly wrongly) going to have stones thrown at you by the woke that you led her there The risk reward just isnt worth the views IMHO ❤ PEACE AND LOVE
Has it ever occurred to sporty Beth that if she prioritized eating healthy foods on top of the obsessive training, that she may feel slightly better during her pregnancy? I don’t consume her content so I don’t know if she even pays attention to what she eats or if that’s part of her triggering issue. You can’t out train a bad diet. Eat like shit = feel like shit. I know the pregnancy adds a new layer, but I just can’t comprehend her train of thought.
Pregnancy is harder when you complain and start off out of shape. Just is. Reality is working out and high protein diets make it better. Which no one wants to admit but when I went carnivore it got way better You have control over pelvic floor health and maintenance All my coworkers on the ambulance worked through their third trimester. Often 48/96 (2 days on 4 off) Okay. I’m done.
I am being trashed right now on her instagram page for reacting to one of her videos where she basically states that she is not a high risk OB patient, because everything came back normal for her and her baby. And that it's sad that they had all these assumptions purely based on her BMI... I just said: you are high risk, because you are overweight. Well..... Apparently I am S*t at my job, because I am stating a medical fact.
I would respect her if she filmed herself telling the truth about her struggles and was working to get better, instead of "Beth's unhealthy excuses channel" echo chamber she's trying to perpetuate. Nobody gets a pass on math. She will never be able to outwork that diet. The whole 'every body is different' thing is bullshit. Every body has some differences but we are generally pretty much the same. Same general nutritional requirements, same adaptations to stimulus. And I'm not sure anyone's mental health has been adversely affected by looking good, feeling healthy, and eating a nutritious diet.
Her insta has always felt funny for me because instead of promoting a healthy lifestyle (the majority of that should be nutrition) it feels like she is just always defending her size. So I can appreciate that you touched on that. But for the love of God, Hiller, please don't talk about women and training pregnant. It is so glaringly obvious you don't know what the hell you are taking about. And it's making the rest of us coaches, who put time into researching and being better coaches for our athletes, look bad! C'mon dude. Do better. 1. Pregnant Women do have more relaxin horrmone which can make joints more flexible, hence her feeling like her elbow was going to rip off her body in a snatch. 2. If you don't know about Diastasis recti please go inform yourself. That is just embarassing. 3. And yeah, probably a safe bet for women not to be pushing maximal loads as they get further into pregnancy. So I would say the 80% range is a pretty good rule of thumb.
Okay I have to say that your input on a healthy lifestyle “ guarantees “ an easy pregnancy is total BS. Just because you know of 4 women that were fit and able to workout during their pregnancy doesn’t mean it’s going to be like that for everyone. I was very fit ,workout all the time, watched what I ate, before getting pregnant. By week 6, I was already puking and by week 9,I could no longer work. Puking non stop, unable to keep anything down including water. I’ve yet to meet another woman in person who has had a similar experience. Saying that,of course this lady isn’t healthy and should take responsibility for her actions that are keeping her fat. Just because you have kids doesn’t mean you can’t be fit, hell,I’m the fittest I’ve ever been 4 years after giving birth. It is possible. But some unfortunate women have terrible, immobilizing pregnancies regardless of their health status.
It’s clear that she is just trying to sell an idea that she doesn’t even live but will sucker people into believing. The sport of mediocrity, the sporty Beth story
Athena at like minute 25. I wasn't completely sold on the arguments although I knew something was kinda fishy about sporty beth. Then Athena said what I think I wanted to hear as to why I felt like sporthy beth was a bit irksome.
Also, you both should educate on whar "diet mentality" is because it's a whole psychological concept. It could help you both to understand how diet culture influences everyone, but not everyone is affected by it in the same way, that is the problem
15:25 I think what you’re trying to get at with saying that healthier bodies have easier pregnancies, is more of a difference of perspective. Somebody that works to have a very healthy body, is less likely to make excuses for reasons not to try hard. Whereas, someone who may be more likely to give up, is more likely to use the small bumps as a reason to quit.
Got any good resources you can point me to for improving toes to bar. I started trying them in August and I can only do singles. The max I’ve done in a row is 5 but they’re strict. When I try to add the kip it all falls apart.
She’s totally not on her stories trying to act like she doesn’t care about her “trolls” when clearly she does. I do hope she gets the help she needs, both mentally and physically.
I love this. I love the facts you’re spitting, I love the fact that BOTH of you are real and wanting to learn and stepping outside your comfort zones. I love that you are honest with yourselves and each other. It’s inspiring. Get out and do hard things. Be honest with yourself and do work. ❤
I trained thru my whole pregnancy (41 weeks) with CrossFit, lifting, and cardio. Even ran an 8 minute mile the day I went into labor. I was already very healthy and active before pregnancy and I think it allowed me to have any easy pregnancy.
Someone currently at our gym I am pretty sure was in the gym on her due date. Like I know that pregnancy is very painful but you see so many people pushing through. We have someone else that their only goal is to be at the gym up to a week before her due date. Just Do It.
Coming to leave my 2 cents- I 100% believe my home birth was successful because I continued crossfit my entire pregnancy. It was an 18 hour EMOM 😂 I did not stop jumping rope but at about 25 weeks I did start doing box step ups vs any box jumps. I’m not even an average crossfitter lol well below average in my opinion, but IT HELPED ME STAY FIT enough to give birth unmedicated, at home, and the recovery was literally hours vs days.
Beth is so attention seeking, her content is all about negativity and making herself a victim. Anyone can have a platform, doesnt mean they’re right. And she’s wrong about A LOT of the things she’s saying about pregnancy.
