Yo, I don’t know if this tech is common knowledge or if I just found it, but I haven’t seen it anywhere else so here goes: you know how you can dash, turn around and then cancel the turnaround animation with an f tilt? And do you know how you can perform an up or down tilt in the opposite way you’re facing without touching the control stick if you flick the c stick in the right position? Well if you combine these two things you can get a sliding up or down tilt and I think that might open up some options for characters with bad approach options but I don’t know enough about most characters to actually know if it helps them.

A good tradeoff would be to nerf spotdodge cancel in compensation for a nerf/removal on the added startup of shield grabs. Considering all the various buffs aerials got, along with the nerfs to Shield, the later comes off as obnoxious overkill. It makes certain unspaced aerials feel artificially safe on block for most characters who are not like Marth or GNW. Grabs and Grab Combo/Confirms are also no were near as good in 4, so it would merely balance the scales better imo.

I just simply charge a smash attack when I see a dude spot dodging after every aerial, you can take all 3 stocks like that cause people that do this have it burned in muscle memory so they wont stop... for some reason almost all of them are captain falcon players thou Edit: forgot to mention... my secundary is hero... yeah, those players that love to do this, those are my favorite players to fight, crits FOR DAYS.

If you charge a forward smash on reaction to someone spot dodging they will most likely hit you before releasing. I think you mean you hard read the spot dodge. Purpose of this video is to show a reactionary way to deal with spot dodge cancelling that isn't read based

The year is 20XX. The Smash Ultimate meta has evolved so much that each game is just two players taking turns spotdodging, hoping their opponent will throw out an attack. Every single match goes to time, and the competitive scene is in shambles. An underground competitive Smash scene has developed where spotdodge cancelling is banned, so the players can have a taste of what the old days where like.

@@mayolover23 Aside from it just being inconsistent and not working sometimes, you can sdi out of range if they go for both jabs 1 and 2. I think this can be avoided by doing power dunk off of jab 1 but that's a pretty difficult hit confirm and you still might just fall out of the power dunk randomly lol

Enemy: Spot Dodge Cancels Me: Laughs in Full Hop Fast Fall Aerial Seriously though, for any newer players, doing a full hop or short hop when they pressure and then doing a fast fall aerial right when spot dodge ends is a great way to get damage and lead to combos. It's usually very safe and let's you continue pressure, and you can react to rolls by drifting back and back airing if they roll behind. Whether you do a short hop or full hop depends on the character you play and play against but generally, it's a good option.

@@Carlisho For certain MU's, you want to adjust your aerial. For Chrom, the best choice is probably a short hop landing dair, nair, or bair, which from experience (as Palutena, Byleth, and Joker) are very effective even against Chrom, especially since you are above him rather than directly in front of him.

Lol only in smash & even then it's not that sample to punish Dodgers like this video made it out to be forget mix ups of rolls & people just hitting A while u waiting to take a guess on the 3 to 4 frame Invincible option. You would have to condition tf out of someone or do some Jimmy Neutron levels of Brain Blast trying to think when & where they gonna go while accounting for your character Frame data. All this because someone with half a brain while also having a brain tumor just hitting two buttons on their controller. Never had more fun then dropping smash

That tech is actually OD because a friedn of mine makes a spot dodge instinctively, if an attack misses. I used to wait it out and punish it with F-Smash (Mario Main; against his Joker). But with that I maybe can Spot Dodge cancel him

It sucks, but it's not my least favourite mechanic. Rapid jabs or a lingering hitbox takes care of it. Or just a well timed move if you're ballsy/have better timing than me.

Thanks for the vid, its really useful! Although this technique works as a weird mixup, counter play to spot dodge cancelling is lackluster, which goes to show how good an option spot dodge cancelling is. My problem with spot dodge cancelling is that it is too rewarding - very low risk but high-as* reward. Only a handful of the cast can optimize a good punish by reading a spot dodge cancel without doing another spot dodge. Although you pointed out that it will require your opponent to think, after you condition them to spot dodge their spot dodge, it become a messy guessing game of who whiffs a move after a spot dodge or who spot dodges first. My main point is f*** spot dodge cancelling.

What an incomplete and downright foolish solution. You are adding in such a massive number of variables. If your opponent is abusing spot dodge, just charge your smash attack for a few frames... Why introduce a guessing game as the answer.

I actually kinda like spot dodge canceling. I feel spot dodge was actually really weak in sm4sh and that's why spam rolling was so common in that game. I think it's a good buff and incentive to use spot dodge in this game and also adds a great counter/defensive option in this game where offensive play is really rewarded y'know with aerials being generally safe on shield and other stuff. That's just my opinion though.

Alright boys, for those ness mains that don't know, if you see your opponent doing constant spot-dodges, next time you try to bait a spot-dodge, use up smash on their shield (or when up close) (assuming they're going to spot dodge) and hold up smash. It's a guaranteed punish if they go for the spot-dodge, and if not you get massive shield damage on them

I find that at least 3 out of 6 times, I can catch spot-dodge abusers with a slightly charged smash attack [or up-B in Link's case], and once I've trained them into expecting that, it becomes easier to bait them into just standing there shielded for me to either grab them, or take advantage of the chance to create some space.
