Everyone seems to forget about the Creature when thinking of classic monsters. He was the one that creeped me out the most as a kid watching Creature Double Feature. As usual, great job.
I've always loved the creature. His suit blew me away Thanks for the Monster Squad creature / Wang build shout-out. It was freaking awesome. We watch that movie every Halloween season.
Agreed. I think the issue is the Creature doesn't make as much sense outside of his setting. Dracula, the werewolf, even the Mummy can show up in different locations or cities. But if you met the Creature at a museum, you'd be confused.
I love all the work you are doing with LocTite! It’s so accessible for folks who may not be able to invest in clay and plaster but want to make cool stuff. The creature and this bust is a favorite! Love it and thanks for the shout out! Xoxo my spooky friends! ❤
I love this. I have a Creepy Tiki bar (Hauntwaii) on my deck with a small pond next to it. I want to put a creature bust and hands coming up over the edge of the deck but couldn't find anything affordable. Now maybe I'll try to make my own!
I wrap my armatures before I start sculpting, but it's not because I don't want the armature to get dirty, it's because it makes demolding easier. Rather than having to break suction between the clay, the mold, and the armature on both sides of the mold, I only have to get the back half of the mold off, then dig through the clay and slice the wrapping (I use duct tape over my plastic wrap) to "deglove" the sculpture from the armature without having to fight the vacuum.
this makes a lot of sense, I just never liked sculpting over the plastic, but I totally get that point.....you could even inflate the bag to pop the mold....I might try that.
It's actually awesome that you posted this. After your last Werewolf mask, I decided I was going to attempt making a head form, and trying my hand at sculpting a mask/bust using this method. I was going to attempt Swamp Thing because the design is less specific, and a little more forgiving if I l'm not completely accurate. The Creature isn't exactly the same thing, but it's not far off!! This is so great. I sincerely love your content.
Ohhhhh snap! You had me at Gillman! Soooo good! Could I pretty please grab a link for your long ginsu knife? We just lost Ricou too but he was 92 I believe. His underwater scenes are still amazing to this day.
One of my absolute favorite monsters and you totally did him justice, love that sculpt so much. He made a real impression on me when I was younger and I think you summed it up, you saw the whole monster.
Amazing as always. I'm very glad to hear your the Owner now. I'll gladly buy tickets knowing I can't make it this year. Someday I will...it's on my bucket list.❤
He's BEAUTIFUL, Mr H! You've done honor to one of my all time favorite movie monsters; I've loved them for over 60 years. I've always found the Creature to be beautiful...as is the creature created for Guillermo Del Toro's marvelous "The Shape Of Water". I have the big book published by the Stan Winston shop about the history of their works, and there's a lot in it about their monster for "Pumpkinhead". Brilliant work, Mr H. I have an excellent mask of the Creature Of The Black Lagoon, and another of Jack Pierce's original Karloff Frankenstein monster in my studio, on stands. I think they're gorgeous...always have. To me, the old classics are beautiful, not horrifying. Wonderful stuff. You've made a truly great sculpture of beloved Creature here. Very well done! And you're one hell of a sculptor..a lot better than you think you are! All the best to you, sir. Thank you.
First off- I absolutely love the Creature! What a fantastic sculpt! Secondly, you may have tried this already, but I wanted a thinner strip from the foam earlier this week, so I took a cake decorating tip and hot glued it to the end of the straw (making sure not to cover the hole). Before I started, I thought it might shoot off of there like a rocket, but to my surprise, it held fast and gave me a much thinner bead to sculpt with. Just an idea you might want to play around with (if you haven't already)! Anyway, you never cease to amaze me- fantastic video!
My all time favorite Hollywood monster. I have an autographed picture of Ricou Browning who was the underwater creature. Unfortunately he passed away this past Feb. He was the last of the original cast.
Hey, Allen! As you know, The Wolfman's woman's name is Gwen (my name) and the name of the boat in The Creature from the Black Lagoon is Rita (my sister's name). So, both those movies are family favorites. Btw, you probably have no idea that your videos are great to crochet by. I'm not sure if it's your voice or what. But, I've worked some serious amount of stitches while watching. Thank you!
I have been watching your videos for a few weeks now. I have never used spray foam as an art form, but I think I'm ready. It has all been in preparation for a Gilbert and Sullivan opera. I am performing, but I am also handling the sets. I have watched and watched, and now I hope I'm ready to try my first mushroom. I just wanted to thank you for sharing these techniques and giving us, as a fledgling opera company with almost no money, a way to create the extra to take our performance over the top!!! We are doing Iolanthe, which gives me the opportunity to create mushrooms, flowers.....a fairy forest! Thanks again.
Absolutely love the creature bust love seeing the classic monster that made horror film history I absolutely love your creation on the Creature from the black lagoon
Omg. Love watching you work. Me and my grandson just found your channel he absolutely loves it been watching for 2 hours straight. He Loves your wolf he said werewolf because that's his favorite and the pond monster he calls it, your fabulous, keep on keeping on. I'm speechless. Loving everything you make, 😊
I love it! Very quickly I could see the bones of creature- and it's spray foam- that's incredibly impressive. Creature is my favorite Universal monster- with a very close second and sometimes even tied to Invisible Man. Creature is a true wonder of creature design and special effects that is still impressive some seventy years later.
WOOOOOW!!!!! Watching this wonderful video was as mesmerizing as reading an hot off the presses issue of FAMOUS MONSTERS when I was a wee monster... Thanks for that sir.🤘🤘🤘🍻
WOWZERS- Whoever wins that bust has possession of a gem. With the right case, backdrop and lighting....That would look amazing ALL year long. and just knowing that Allen H made it? Well It just doesn't get any better than that.
😮😮😮😮!!! This is the most neato of your canned creepos, maestro!! 😮😮😮I love it!! Ol Blacky is tops in my book. I love rivers, especially San Marcos, and the Creature is one of the reasons why. I remember getting a CFTBL aquarium decoration from Perry's discount 5 and Dime way back when. I didn't have an aquarium but I loved the creature And I took him everywhere on every back seat road trip to the point he broke In the middle and my grandmother put a folded paper towel and stuck in the middle and iViola! He became an instant Action figure😊 thank you sir, for another fun FRIDAYNIGHT/ RU-vid WEDNESDAY 😀 👍
@StiltbeastStudios Thank you sir🥲 You, your work, your channel and your.studenst and your employees are absolutely the most. Amazing stuff of all time!! You work magic that goes beyond the fantastic things you do daiy!!
I gotta say im a subscriber after seeing this badass figure. Absolutely love this creature from the black lagoon and this is perfect for diy situations. I wish i could see every home version following this process!
no, the gills are inside and internal organ- they have a specific name I did not bother to recall until someone incorrectly corrected me. they are called operculum. the bony plates that protect and cover the gills. it just wasn't necessary to name them, till someone did it incorrectly I suppose.
My favorite monster. Alan, that was an amazing sculpt. It could not have been better. Hope you have huge crowds at your haunt. Tis the season! Oh, I am hoping you had a good time in Greeley with Ed, Marsha, and his lordship, the Jordu.
This looks so cool i really wish i could do stuff like this but cant find loctite foam in the Netherlands for some reason but atleast i can watch you make these amazing things
I love the entire piece, the build, shaping, painting, etc, etc. I stumbled across your RU-vid site during one of my chemo sessions, glad I did. I'm 67 years old, and the "Creature" is one of my favorites. A friend of my family's, had a hobby shop (this was 1960's through the 1970's). among the things he sold were classic monsters, the creature, Frankenstein's monster, werewolf, each set in a scene from their respective movie sets. Great job
Thats awesome Allen. Here's a quick tidbit the Chapman family told me a few years back: The Creature suit made Ben Chapman break out in a rash all over his body especially under his arms and private parts. So much so that he had to be submerged in the Lagoon to keep the suit wet. Seems he had a Latex allergy. Man I would love to have one of these in my collection 😎
Wow. Alan, that was absolutely fantastic my friend. Always enjoy watching you sculpting in spray foam. Totally mesmerising:) Final results, I’d very very happily buy the creature ! Good luck everyone on patreon, and whoever wins this - noice!
@@StiltbeastStudios your always welcome. I used to watch from UK live in middle of our night a couple years ago, but life took over! I try to catch up what I can
I love how you make stuff with things we have or can get around here. Your one I love to follow because I know we don’t need to go get a loan to make stuff. LOL I’m in need of about a 24 inch Jack o lantern pumpkin head so wish me luck. Thanks for sharing.
I was born in 56 and I remember watching the creature of the Black Lagoon and I just love that movie and I’ve seen it a few times since. I don’t know what it was about it but it’s one of those you really remember and you did a great job on the sculpture.
Swampishly Fantastic!! 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚 I've just discovered your channel recently and your are absolutely impressive! Motivating and inspiring too!!! Now on to "Make Stuff "!💚
I love the creature, its a classic! Im doing a haunted forest/ garden/swampy type area and he will be perfect along with my man eating plants and vines! I absolutely love your videos! I get all my good ideas from you!
Because of you, ive been doing alot more things with the spray foam. I made the basic rounded head of the man eating plants with the foam. I got 3 full plants with one can, compared to 1 plant with the foam pumpkins most people use. Their sturdy and im still not done! Love skulpting stuff with the spray foam though. Works great!
Amazing job!! The creature brings back so many good memories of being young and watching monster movies!. Godzilla was my favorite and the creatire was a tight second place. Im jot a sculptor by any atretch of the imagination but its cool to see you make that out of such an everyday inexpensive product. Great job!!
