I built my vapor blasting cabinet for under $400, it works amazing and made this stuff so much easier, better quality, and cuts the time it takes in more than half. Super simple: harbor freight sand blasting cabinet, eBay trash pump, eBay sand blasting tip, 5 gallon bucket, and a few fittings and hoses. Theres lots of diy vapor blasting content on RU-vid. I had a 26 gal air compressor that ran it originally but it would only run it for about 6/7 minutes before needing to recharge, I just upgraded to a 5hp 50gal air compressor and it works flawlessly for both wet 50psi and dry 90psi. Awesome content as always 🤘

That's awesome! How much is involved with swapping between the wet and dry setups? Also good to know your 50 gallon air compressor gets the job done. I have been looking into mostly 80 gallons because I wasn't sure if a 50 or 60 would get the job done. Which compressor did you buy? The compressor is definitely the most expensive part of the setup.

@@KincadePavich to go from wet to dry just disconnect the hose at the pump that runs up to the gun, pull it up inside the cabinet, close the hatch and add media. Just make sure it’s fully dry inside the cabinet. I got the 60 gallon ingersoll rand 5hp, I got mine from a direct vendor for 800 plus tax (found on fb market place), they sell them at tractor supply for 1200. Whatever you get just make sure the cfm @40 is 15 or greater and it’ll pretty much run as long as you want with out breaks or losing pressure. I just stripped the black from a stock yz exhaust, hit it with a pryme wheel and heated the welds and it looks just as good as a factory pipe maybe even better! And it didn’t take long, maybe an hour ish

Thank you! Yep, I've bought some bikes that have seen some rough paint jobs as well (the KX250 I built a couple years ago!) This is my first time painting brake components, so will be interesting to see how well they hold up to the elements.

I invested in cerakote. I may have mentioned before. The finish is very nice with the matte. I already had a compressor and sandblast cabinet. I do think sandblasting makes for a lot better profile to adhere to. The cerakote was a bit of an investment. I like that it has a catalyst to harden it. I hope that VHT, holds up well. You definitely did some good prep work, minus the sandblasting. The nicest part about cerakote to me is that it is very thin. You don’t need to mask off most stuff. I even did the inside of a quadrajet carburetor with it. I want to see if it holds up to gasoline.
@KincadePavich
@KincadePavich Год назад
Yeah when I reference cost I should be more clear - it is the investment in the sandblasting setup that is my limiting factor right now, not the cost of cerakote materials. From my understanding of cerakote, the process is a bit more particular and sandblasting is pretty much essential to do it well. Whereas with paint, it can be done well without a blast setup despite being tedious. The next big investment for my shop is definitely a good air compressor and a cabinet.

You did a great job and I enjoyed your video. This was a lot of work and you had to buy several paint products. I bought a cheap powder coat gun from Harbor Freight. It is cheap, quick and easy to do parts. I even did the parts in a toaster oven.
@KincadePavich
@KincadePavich Год назад
Thanks so much! Do you have sandblast capabilities or do you prep in a similar fashion?
@Mr10usdad
@Mr10usdad Год назад
@@KincadePavich I prep in a similar fashion. I use pryme mx pads in almost everything. I also have a dremel with a flexible shaft and small pryme mx pads to get in the tight areas. Last year I bought a zinc plating kit from Caswell. I have been real happy with the results.

Thanks for letting us know it took you 2 full days to do this. I do similar stuff and I'm always wondering if it takes others a long time also. Not that it maters, I'm not in a rush and want the nice results more than the speed.
