We have a spindle out of. Rockwell beltsandewr that needs a repair made on the bearing journal. I'll use my Eutectic flame spray equipment to build up the worn journal and machine it back to specs.

There are two things that will get me to prioritize watching Abom videos, shaper and spray welding.

Adam does things in his shop with the ease and confidence of a man with lots skill that comes from experience. To paraphrase Chuck Berry, Adam plays his machines "just like a-ringin' a bell".

Hey Adam, when my husband was an apprentice mold maker (maybe early ‘70s), he worked on that spray welder for the company that made it. Trying to help get it to stick on flat surfaces. He worked for Los Angeles Die Mold in El Monte, CA. In 1977 we moved to Oregon and he opened his own Mold building shop and was in business for himself for 35 years. Our oldest son followed him in the business and is still manager for a Plastic Injection shop. Enjoy your machining videos and adventure videos.

Those old Rockwell Delta shop machines are almost all excellent, and i can see why this one was worth repairing rather than finding something else... Their 3/5hp 220v Unisaw, in particular, are just plain old fantastic, lifetime machines. I have my grandfather's, prob 60 years old and stil better than almost anything available new today, imho. That looks like a nice sander- for either metal or wood or (ugh) plastic, etc.

I repaired an early 1960s craftsman table saw that I got for free because the blade arbor was worn, I welded it up and turned it to size and it works perfect. my main problem was the original super fine left handed threads were destroyed so I had to drill and tap the end and make a "cap" to run up against the blade but it works great just slightly more difficult to change a blade.

I never knew about spray welding until I saw you do it several years ago. I just find it fascinating and enjoy watching it. I use to use the old buzz box aka Lincoln stick welder when I was a teenager working with my cousin on his race car. I got back into welding, this time MIG a few years before COVID started. Thanks again for your informative videos. HI Abby!! 👋

Not to mention the flame spray repair is a MUCH quicker option than machining an entirely new shaft. I'd repair it too, doesn't make a lot of sense to commit to making a new shaft when you can repair it so quickly and easily. Also, flame spray is just cool as h-ll so use it every opportunity you can lol.

Hey Adam: Always enjoy your demonstrations of the more "exotic" tools and technologies. It got me wondering if you've ever done any friction rotary welding using a regular old lathe. I've been following your RU-vid channel from about the beginning, and I don't think I ever remember you doing a video on the topic. If you're ever in the notion to make a video and demonstrate your techniques, I'd enjoy watching and learning!!

Another reason for him to spray-weld this instead of making a whole new shaft is that this job is _quid pro quo_ , and making a whole new shaft would pretty much require Adam to charge the customer for it.

Great Video as usual. Instead of using Emery-Cloth, could one also use a straightened natural stone, or even an artificial diamond stone ? In theory the precision would be way greater, for the stiffness of the flat hand-held stone.

Much prefer your videos in your home shop with manual machines. There are hundreds of videos made by others out there of CNC machines cranking out parts with little or no actual machining skills being demonstrated.
@melgross

It depends on whether you producing new products, or repairing old ones. It’s almost impossible, financially, to repair something with CNC, but it’s also almost impossible financially, these days, to manufacture something new manually.

And of course, taking two months off every year to drive around the country in an RV like you're retired doesn't help, either. I'm not sad one bit, he doesn't listen to feedback and seems really entitled. So be it.
