SPRAYING Concrete - How New Concrete Skateparks Are Built!

How concrete skateparks are built; showing the entire process of a concrete ramp being built from start to finish.
First they literally spray the concrete in a general shape of the ramp. Then they distribute the concrete evenly to needed areas before starting the smoothing process. During the smoothing process handfuls of concrete are thrown into needed areas before making more passes with the hand tools to smooth further.
Once a general smoothness is achieved, other hand tools are used for further smoothing and several more passes are made. Next appears to come an edging process for the edges where metal meets concrete and the edges of the ramps. Finally, the ramp is smoothed with rainbow patterns for a finished appearance.
This is what I could gather from watching the process, so there is sure to be more going on than what I saw.
Spohn Ranch is building a skatepark near me and I am documenting the entire process from start to finish!

I’m honestly not sure as I wasn’t there for what came next when they were building any of the obstacles at the park. There is the portion around 2 minutes where the guy is painting something onto the ramps. I’m not sure if that is the final step for the concrete or not, but it seems like it could be. They also sealed the seams up in the bowl after everything else was done in it

This is gonna be dope. Also, might be a budget mini spot locally somewhere it won't bother anyone. Not sure if I seek permission first or build first lol. But Cinder blocks some random rocks and filler, plus diy skate spot ingenuity should make for a cool budget skate spot. Cinderblocks and concrete don't cost alot per se, and random rubble can help fill shit in cheap. Beer can coping. Maybe even pvc pipe coping and "rails" wood for forms while pouring. Just really want a fun box back. There's like not a single one in my city anymore. So kinda wanna build a steezy big ass one. Thinking under a bridge that crosses over a valley that's just recreational trails. on a spot off to the side of the trails. Not that far from a legal local park and some unsanctioned dirt jumps. Lol Burnside of my city but bike friendly.
@Chudchanning
@Chudchanning 2 года назад
Easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission. Best to visit your potential spot and observe it for foot traffic and whatnot, then make your plans and take measurements and all that, do as much prep as you can at home then come in fully prepared for a quick low-key install. The less foot traffic and visibility the less likely someone will report it or fuck with it, and once it's cured it's pretty much permanent unless the city bulldozes it. Lots of diy spots get torn down within hours of being set up if the spot isn't secluded enough.
@bmxriderforlife1234
@bmxriderforlife1234 2 года назад
@@Chudchanning the place I'm planning is under a bridge on a random section of gravel beside a bunch of bike trails and running trails. In a random valley system. Where it like literally shouldn't bother anyone. Only problem is getting shit to said location. But half why I'm tempted to ask for permission. Might be able to get permission to do it and get a city truck to drive the shit into the location. Random citizens can't drive into those locations but city workers can when needed.
@bmxriderforlife1234
@bmxriderforlife1234 2 года назад
@@Chudchanning xD also I sorta planned it for a spot where it would be a bitch to rip out. There's traffic but not as much as you'd think but sometimes bike cops. But done on stages might be fine and left alone till its too big to easily rip out.
@Chudchanning
@Chudchanning 2 года назад
Full speed ahead sir. Slightly off the path is a solid spot
@bmxriderforlife1234
@bmxriderforlife1234 2 года назад
@@Chudchanning yeeee plus it's a pretty huge area and like it's already a spot that's not got vegetation and stuff so not like they can say destroying wild life habitats. My city doesn't have my diy spots that last or any diy parks. Just 2 sets of jumps really. But it's been a topic of debate since some other cities in my country have huge famous diy parks and lots of them. Why I was thinking might be a spot the city would say yes to a diy or at least not go through the trouble of ripping it out and as long as it's not rife with problems they might end up supporting it. But gonna see about bare cinderblocks and some bricks. And pouring some custom bits and using gravel and stuff for back fill. Will kinda suck to fall on but grip shouldn't be an issue even slightly wet. Plus would let me line the bricks up with smooth transition. There's a hill by the one section that's like perfect to just build a flat like platform for a stair set. Might try pvc and Crete to pour a concrete hand rail I can polish and smooth up. Reinforce it with random metal or rebar. Probably also gonna help my buddy with some diy spots on his city. And we might build a diy bowl on someone's property for a private spot to sesh the living shit out of lol. But I wanna try and get skaters and other peeps involved in my plan. Make a spot everyone can enjoy but started by bikes so skaters can't pull the it's a skate park bs. Plus also a spot we can tweak if we want. And add more shit if wanted. I know this old dude who's son used to bike and skate before he passed away, has a stupid nice piece of steel pipe for rails. Hard ass steel that's corrosion resistant but harder then most stainless steels and stronger. Won't dent gonna slide like butter and should stay uber smooth. Concrete fill them and they shouldn't Crack ever and helps with denting. Already said I could take it. And I know where to source other railing material cheap so gonna try and make it look pretty professional and built all on volunteer shit and donations or my cash flow and keep it budget but like super nice to use as a model to argue diy park spaces and dj spots. Either doing a mini ramp first or 2 quarters a fun box and some flat rails and ledges. Expand every year lol or till it gets ripped out. But we have a skate crew that builds sick diy shit that always gets torn out. Concrete and plywood but I know they have some nice molds that aren't that heavy and pre poured shit for diy spots. If I can get them on board it'll be alot easier cause they pitch together to get bigger projects done for money and shit makes work faster. And I'm already planning to drop a decent budget on shit. Plus used to work construction. So gonna hit up a contact when I buy materials and get wholesale bulk pricing without needing to buy tens of thousands of dollars worth of materials.
