Sam McArthur Season 4 is gonna be stellar. Probably one of the best dramatisations of the complexities of protracted conflicts ever - not just in anime but across mediums
If you thought the Uprising Arc was dead boring to read (although the anime was actually good thanks to the pacing changes) Hajimeme presents you... THE MARLEY ARC
@@houndnobleman876 www.imdb.com/search/title?title_type=tv_episode&num_votes=1000,&sort=user_rating,desc Check it out, a perfect 10/10 score and at number 1. The show has 5 of its episodes in the top 20
Oh My God. Finally a youtuber with EXCEPTIONAL TASTE. Thanks for highlighting some niches, but best of the best shows that went under the raider from many western anime fans, like Sarazanmai. Btw if you like good character narrative and drama on top of fascinating music on top of wholesome moment that would make you cry, I strongly suggest you to watch Kono Oto Tomare. The first episode may not be as good, but please give it 5 episodes at least, you'd appreciate everything about it later on.
This is one of my strange hang-ups, but it always irks me when Fruits Basket is explained to people as a reverse harem... When I hear "reverse harem", I think of Uta no Prince-sama going-nowhere romance plots and flat characters. Fruits Basket is, as you said, so much more about belonging and family. I'm so happy it's getting the Brotherhood treatment, as it's manga has made a lasting impact on me, and I'm so ready to laugh and cry with all the characters.
Senryuu Shoujo is the cute palate cleanser series of the season and possibly the cutest show I've ever seen. The characters are cute. The romance is cute. The comedy is funny and cute. The runtime of each episode is shorter than the standard which makes it easier to sneak it into your schedule after something heavy and diminutive qualities are often considered cute. First episode was a bit weak, but since then it's been consistently wonderful and I love it. Hitori Bocchi is great, but it's full of the sort of things that make me cry.
sarazanmai is pretty much the only seasonal thing im watching this season...that and dororo which has punched me right in my feels. like seriously if u see this go watch the new dororo the fights are really good, the drama is compelling and you WILL cry and feel sad for Hyakkimaru and Dororo.
I'm already crying for Sarazanmai ep 8 . Maybe I'd cry some more in ep9. As for the prepare to cry moment (not in a sad way but wholesome / touching way, I recommend you to watch Kono Oto Tomare. Just give it 5 episodes at least and you'll see) The animation is lacking at some department, but the performance on ep 5 is still exceptional. Also the artstyle is just really good, especially when the anime use the featured manga shot in color. Those characters are just beautiful.
Fruits Basket was easily my most anticipated anime of the season. I love the manga to pieces and it was pretty formative in my own emotional development as a young girl. Its messages of empathy, healing, and exploring all the different facets of "love" make it an emotionally dense story that we're only just stepping our toes into now. Considering the anime is going to be around 63 episodes long, I highly encourage you to stick with it (despite the occasional dated joke or "Rumiko Takahashi-style" humor from Kagura). There's a reason the manga was one of the best selling titles in the US in its heyday, even among juggernauts like Naruto and One Piece. I really love Sarazanmai, but I agree its hard to make a definitive judgement on where I would place it in the Ikuhara ranking until we see the finale. I think its his simplest work to understand by far (or at least tied with Yuri Kuma Arashi), and with that probably his most accessible outside the early shock-factor, but the complexity of the characters and their emotions stand out as much as any other of his previous work. Attack on Titan has been really on-point this season, and I think the character work has especially taken a huge step up in its sequel seasons compared to S1. I used to enjoy but brush off AoT as spectacle, but honestly, I don't think its really fair to do that anymore. There's a lot more to the show than I initially gave it credit. Still salty about Carole & Tuesday being on Netflix since I was really looking forward to it, but what can you do? I really hope the dub is good too, because I think it would work really well in English given all the songs.
Demon Slayer, Carole and Tuesday, and Attack on Titan are so much better than anything out at the moment that it isn’t even funny. But, summer is coming with some heat, and with so little to watch, it gave me some time to focus on reading some manga and books I’m behind in, and focus on my writing, so this season was a blessing in disguise 😂.
I think you mean "better" mostly as to production aspect of it, especially with Demon Slayer and AoT surpassing its source with better pacing / camera shot/ action/ production/ artstyle.

@@mic01851165 Nothing has been proven yet though, nor has an official investigation been sanctioned. It's mostly rumors at this point and considering the subject has been dead for a few months it has most likely been settled. No need to assume the worst when no proof has been presented yet.
low key, MIX Meisei Story is one of my favorites this season. Loving the retro character designs and wholesome family and high school/baseball drama. Speaking of retro character design, super stoked on the Rise of the Red Comet aka Revenge of the Casval aka Gundam: the Origin. "YAS" Yoshikazu Yasuhiko is a legend, right up there with Haruhiko Mikimoto and Kenichi Sonoda IMO. Shame that more ppl aren't watching it on CR.
It's really good (I watched 3 episodes then stopped because I'd rather binge it when it finishes airing); you can torrent it from PAS (post-apocalyptic subs)
Yeah, it's a good thing that Carole & Tuesday's music is great, because otherwise it's kinda petering out… It felt like it had something to say in the first 3 or 4 episodes, and then it just kinda gave up. But it's two-cour, so hopefully it gets back on its feet after the Martian Idol arc. And I'm still interested in Angela and Dahlia's character arcs. Also, RobiHachi gets no love. =( This is not a deep show by any means, but damn if it isn't fun and refreshing.
I'm deliberately always one season behind so I can binge watch things, but I decided to watch Isekai Quartet on a whim. Well, it's actually really enjoyable
Besides dropping KnY because I don't need another shounen series in my life right now, this is the exact lineup of shows I was already watching. I guess I know why I'm subscribed to this channel.
Sarazanmai, Hitoribocchi, and the poorly animated but adorable and underrated Cinderella Nine are my favourites of the season. Demon Slayer is pretty great, and I can't wait to see Carole and Tuesday when it gets out of Netflix gaol.
Yeah episode 9 is coming out in less than an hr! Can't wait to see how all this tsunami goes! Definitely my favourite anime of this season. ps: I already rewatch many episodes many times to find all the hidden ques that foreshadow later events.
@@mic01851165 Yeah it's a true Ikuhara show I wish it had more eps like Utena or Penguindrum but the pace is better then Yuri. Ep 9 was amazing tho really gave that dark vibe. Hope ya keep enjoying and people give this quirky show a shot.
Wow, you should really watch Kono Oto Tomare. Its definitely an understated series this season. And another show I'll briefly mention, but not hold in regard as much as Kono Oto Tomare... is Shoumetsu Toshi. The OP is a banger and so is the rest of the soundtrack; it's just too bad that the rest of the shows feels generic and not as inspiring
Eh, everyone has their own tastes, but I'm a little sad that no anime tuber seems to like Wise Man's Grandchild at all. I think it's one of the better shows for this spring. Not the best, but it's still pretty good. It shares in Slime in that it plays well with its generic tropes and strikes a fair balance between being serious enough and yet not taking itself too seriously. Admittedly, I was hyped for Fairy Gone this season, but it's been underwhelming. Fruits Basket I agree is pretty chill to watch. Yu-no has been kind of meh. I want to like it, but the main character makes me want to gouge out my eyes. Afterlost is honestly underrated in my opinion. Afterlost and Wise Man's Grandchild are what I look forward to most every week as far as new shows.
Thanks to damn exams, the only series I managed to watch and keep up with this season is Fruits Basket. I didn't watch the original nor did I read the manga. In other words, I went completely blind into Furuba. But I have to admit, it's really good. All those emotions I love slice-of-life so much for are all present. And on top of that, Funimation is doing a great job with the dub.
In a weird way it may have been all of our benefit that this season was a bit sparse less shows to watch means more time to rewatch each episode of sarazanmai since tha tthing is so dense Also I bet you loved digibro's hour long Utena video he put out sin e it is your favorite show
to talk about bocchi, but not the slice of life that is our helpful fox waifu, Senko. Talk about addictive opening and endings. Also Bokuben is great rom/com goodness.
Boy oh boy i agree with absolutely every single one of your views on these shows (except Hitoribochi which I appreciate but dropped cuz time), also Utena is also my 2nd fav xD
I'm glad I'm not the only one being a little underwhelmed by parts of Carole and Tuesday. Fun show but its a bit of a mess at times. Really felt like it sohuld have been a single cour show.
Its a shame the op and ed of c&t is not rlly that great, especially not in contrast with the "insert songs". aot deffinlty holds the crown this season...easily demon hunter is very very enjoyable and even that budget is on point. that koto anime is also not that bad. i expected worse. isekai quartet is too damn short. i thought i would get bored of it quickly but nop, not yet. opm s2....i do like it, even with the dropping quality (dororo kinda ok, shiled hero as shitty as ever)
@Captain Crunch It's just one battle between the military and a several titan shifters. A well choreographed and planned out battle with solid strategy? Sure. But not much character other than The shifters, Armin, and Erwin.
@@tdfern1 high school + delinquent protagonist + music (koto instrument) + importance of friends and other relationships The show is average but it's great at keeping your hype (or interest) to the maximum. I always find myself eagerly waiting for the next episode.
spring was better imo than winter. had more better animes consistently while winter had individual star performances like opm s2. there's a bunch more great animes with spring that people just overlook. koto no omare, saranzami, carol and tuesday, and kenja no majo without saying the obvious ones. also yu-no is on and off good in its quality and pretty enjoyable as a series as a whole. but if it also had goddamn chihahyfuru season 3. SPRING WOULD BE PACKED and just without a doubt better than winter. i dont think its flying under the radar with aot being the most upvoted thread of all on /r/anime. the upvotes for the other animes discussion have also been consistently high.
@@_Shaugen why ? The characters are quite good, same for the setting, and the story is kinda slow but still interesting. It's not gonna be anime of the year but it's still an enjoyable show so far.
I dont agree. It had a great premise and great animation but it has a little too much going, with too many antagonists and rivals appearing in the first few episodes and more characters. Also the pacing is terrible where doing tasks/missions range from half an episode to nearly 2 episodes and does that thing where it has to jump to a new mission almost immediately, giving the audience very little down time to catch up.
I’m really surprise u said this is the season to watch backlogged shows. I’ve never heard that. This season seems to have no breakout but a lot of above average shows to grip ur attention. From one punch, aot, the continuation of dororo and jojo, fruits basket, season three of stray dogs, and carol and tuesday ( although netflixes jail). ( and return of diamond no ace for those that are fans) Not to mention a bunch of small shows that while not great do have a sense that they could appeal to a niche audience. I don’t know if u looked at next season but other than Vinland, Dr. stone, and a couple other shows it looks Really shallow. I could be wrong there. But this season shallow man I don’t agree at all.
I agree with everythig except with Carol and Tuesday and Sarazanmai. I thought C&T was going to be a gradual progression narrative, like Nana or White Album with the characters slowly become great musicians but it turned into a modern day tale where girls try a get-famous-fast scheme going on reality TV. It not as bad as I let on to but the show is great with most everything else. also, that music video episode was a total waste of time. With Sarazanmai, it was wasting a lot of time in the early episodes but it the later episodes it is feeling more complete. The early episode was a lot of time with the singing and transforming scenes taking up a large chunk of the episode where narrative and plot could be more established. Those scenes dont work and in episode 5 I started to get bored with those moments and looked at my phone and came to realize I wasnt missing a thing and kept doing it for a few more weeks. The show has a great visual direction and great theme but the show now, its its later episodes, has largely dropped the singing and transformation and feels like a better show.
I know it's a really good anime, original and masterfully put togheter; but... butt. I cannot get over the fact that Sazaranmai obrits around buttholes, it's just too much for me. I know I'm missing a potential masterpiece (I loved every Ikuhara's work, from Utena and so on), but this is way too much for me.
gonna have to disagree, carole and tuesday could easily be my anime of the year. The execution of this show is flawless, the art style is fresh an unique, and that animation is top notch. Like any show from shinichiro watanabe's wheelhouse, its amazing.
I've only seen the first two episodes because pirating the episodes at the time meant that the subs were ATROCIOUS. But I know the show is beautiful. I nearly cried during the first episode when they jammed together.
For some reason I came to the conclusion that Carol and Tuesday is overrated. Don't get me wrong, it is still a gorgeous show with partly stunning audio, but by god is the story mediocre. It is feels as if they made the shows idea their own, with the whole 'throw stuff at a wall until something sticks', principle. While the two main characters get some development we see nearly zero development in any of the supporting cast. Overall I think it is a good show and I enjoy watching it, but the whole raving about the show part of the community is starting to get on my nerves.
Honestly, I haven't heard many people talk about it, so I'm surprised that's part of the reason you came to the conclusion. Honestly, I care the most about music and characterization and how pretty it is LOL.
