This is my new Springfield Armory TRP Operator Tactical (3/4 RAIL). After buying the Full-Rail TRP I went out and picked this up. The 3/4 Rail will become my range gun and possibly carry, as I will be attempting to find the right holster for it.
After a much positive experience with Springfield Customer Service over the repair of my full-rail, I felt confident enough to invest in a 2nd TRP. These weapons are excellent and a great value in that they lose very little on resale or trade; the best bang for your buck.
At this price point, Kimber has to slap the Custom Shop logo on their 1911's where as Springfield's Custom Shop guns begin at the $2,500 range.

yes that tool does work. because of your video I went and got mines over a year now and it's makes it so easy to strip the gun down.

The sop I buy from is a huge Springfield retailer but they had been standing in line for 2 years for their order. One day I walked in and they had 15 TRP's out so I purchased the full rail and the 3/4 rail. The stainless part of the order didn't come in (I really wanted the stainless and full rail). About 2 months later the stainless order came in so I traded the 3/4 out for the stainless with very little cash. Love'em both and they were well worth what I paid; no complaints. jr

@1celts79 $80. I know that sounds like a lot but getting rid of the paper clip was priceless. I love my TRP's but cant understand why Springfield couldn't supply us with a takedown tool. But, they're not the only ones who skimp on essentials. I would've given up the cheap plastic holster for a takedown tool any day. The Tool-less guide rod is well made and worth every penny.

Customer service is one thing Springfield does and does it good! I think Sig has a great 1911, and now that they give you the option to go with the retro style, even better. I'm looking at a C3 for carry.

I'm glad to see your getting all the toys for this Christmas. I have to say I like the look of both guns I think the Full Length Rail one looks better with the Streamlight attach to it but they are both sweet looking guns. The Dawson Precision Guide Rod is a very innovative part. Like you said being able to take your gun apart in the field to trouble shoot it its essential to keeping your gun running so not needing any tools makes it that much simpler. AR Review Coming Soon?

I had just come from the range that day from zeroing in the M4 and didn't take the Harris bipod off. The bench rests at the range were too high. Take the bipod off, and it works just fine.

The numbers inside of the weapon are inscribed by the person doing the fitting of the individual parts. Just a way to identify parts belonging to the project. The serial number on the frame is the important one. Not all manufacturers serialize all the parts. An example is Glock: They serialize the barrel to match the frame. As long as your frame has the NM designation, you're good. Hope this helps, jr

The main gun that I wanted that was really backordered was the full rail Operator. They are really hard to find (you don't see that model listed on their website). Out of the 15 he received only 7 were full rail. I've had a Glock 29sf on order now for 3 months and it doesn't seem like it will be anytime soon. The TRP is worth the wait; a Professional model is over 12 months wait right now.

I'd say anything above $1,599 (before taxes) is too much. These hold their value very well and from time to tim you'll even see a used one selling for the same as a new one. jr

Hey, like you, I was on the fence because I'm such a huge Colt fan. But when I started pricing all the upgrades that the Springfield came with, I couldn't justify buying the Colt and spending the extra $400-$500 unless I was sending it back to Colt and have a 6-9 month wait. But that's me :)

The first to go will be the SIG unit and then I have a S&W E series stainless (real pretty) and a S&W 108309 which aren't made anymore that's a keeper it's a Tac driver

Nice man very nice. While the full rail is cool. I love the 3/4 rail much better. That's a neat full length guide rod product too.

@1celts79 I agree about the external extractor. I had a Sig 1911 that ran flawless but the TRP's were my goal so the Sig had to go. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a Sig if given a chance. They are really underrated as a 1911 because they chose to go against the purists, but they are tac-drivers!

I didn't think guys would do that. Upgrade parts then when something goes wrong send the gun in to be serviced...likely while under warrantee not considering the fact that any mods will void the warrantee. As with any product (e.g. cars). Did they think the gunsmith wouldn't notice??? :)I mean if the gun is past it's warrantee...

@1celts79 humans4targets2 had some issues with his Sig Scorpion and some of the first Sig 1911's. But hey, I've had problems with my Colts! The S&W E is one of the nicest 1911's out there. For the money, you can't go wrong with it. GunSmokeGuy introduced me to his, nice gun.

Do you have a preference between the two TRP's I am looking forward to purchasing one and have the option to purchase either the full lenght slide or the partial slide. I am curious if there are strengths or weaknesses with the full lenght slide relative to the partial other than the obvious longer slide length? Thanks for the great videos Mark

Had a full rail didn't like it to BULKY sold it for more than I paid because they aren't made anymore. I am now waiting on the delivery of the model in the review. I have three other 1911's two S&W's and a SIG railed unit. I love the S&W's and have NO PROBLEM with the fact that they have external extractors. 98% of the IDIOTS that complain about that are just complaining because they hear others complain, lemmings will follow each other off a cliff. So I may be selling some or all of the others.

FishOnTv It doesn’t mean that it’s illegal. It means that California gun retailers are required to sell NEW firearms that meet their law requirements. The California version of the TRP came with 2 sets of handgrips. One of those sets had a gritty (sandpaper type) of material that allowed for better grip and handling of the firearm thus preventing it from slipping out of the hand causing an accidental discharge. The tool less guide rod should fit any 5" 1911 with a reverse plug. I dont know if they make one for the shorter models due to the variance of length in a "commander" size by different manufacturers.

How powerful is it? The only reason I'm interested in this particular gun is because of the Heavy Pistol in GTA V. The Heavy Pistol is based on this gun

If you're asking how powerful the gun is, then you're probably not old enough to buy one. If you are then I suggest you do some research on gun's in general because you sound like an idiot.

I agree with Scott Marlar. Familiarization with firearms is important BEFORE you own one. I understand wanting somthing because it looks cool, but buying somthing "because that is the same as the wmone in _________." That always makes responsible gun owners cringe. As for power it fires the 45acp at approximatly 850 fps. Generating in the neighborhood of 500 ft lbs. It is powerful enough for a pistol. But it is still a pistol.

The Colt rail gun with the better finish is about $1100 and doesn't provide anymore perks (I know, it's still a Colt, and I love Colts). But for a few hundred more you get all the bells and whistles. Great trigger, night sights already dovetailed, front-strap checkering; it all adds up. They both are great guns and hold their value well, jr

LMBO, I can lift weights while blowing them away. Try that with dumbbells! Jokes aside, the only item on there that weighs it down is the harris bipod. I used it to zero it in at the range (no bench rests available) jr

He has no clue what he's talking about. The grips have nothing to do with one being CA legal..... It's just the full rail version went through California's drop testing and the other did not, hence one is on the approved roster and the other is not.

He does have some clue. If a manufacturer sells a Glock 19 gen 3 it is legal. It Glock makes a gen 3 Glock 19 in a different color, then that different color Glock would not be Cali legal. Something as simple as a grip change will not be legal. Now if you buy one and change the grips then that is 100% legal.
