You mean that the alternative tracks in Spyro playing after a level/stage's theme had looped a couple times was *an unintentional bug* ? MY WHOLE LIFE HAS BEEN A LIE!!!
The beta Gnasty Gnorc boss fight included the fairies, granting Spyro superflame powerups doing that level (probably because Gnasty Gnorc wears golden armour). This could also explain why he only has two hit points you were originally planned to use the superflame, but the devs couldn't change the fight due to time constraints(?)
Pretty sure the "tabloid demo" is the one that was included on demo CDs that came with PlayStation Underground Magazine. Practically all of those differences are in the demo build on one of the PSU CDs I own
oh my fucking god I recognize literally all of those "unused" themes... I used to get stuck on some of these levels looking for gems as a kid and I'm so surprised to learn I wasn't suppose to hear them, that's crazy
There are some unused areas, well maybe one as far as I know of, you forgot to mention. (Even MikeyTaylor had it in his old video of Spyro glitches, dang that kinda brings me back)
@@GlitchSpeedrunnerTrevor I love Tetra's Videos! We did a collab many years ago if you remember! I'm glad that someone is out here in the wild world of RU-vid spreading my name :D
Oh man, the first Spyro game is absolutely amazing. I'm glad I grew up with this gem. And the music is absolutely fantastic, my favorite videogame soundtrack of all time.
ive heard the "unused" songs before! Stangely though, I dont think ispend TOO long in the levels though, sometimes itll come in after one loop or in the middle of one with a kind of crackle separating them? I was wondering what those were for a while lol.
Hearing all of the "unused" tracks in the game as a child was surreal. When they started playing it always felt like you weren't supposed to be hearing them, or that the game was cursed. I always exited the level because it creeped me out 😅
@@shingosawatarihgx8345 We both had the same artist create our avatars! StarnyArt on Twitter created mine and Nathaniel Bandy liked the look of it, so he asked her to make him one in the same style :)
I've heard some of those "unused" themes before in-game, namely the theme mix and the sort of Wizards Peak one. One of them played for sure in Dry Canyon after idling for a long time, but I can't remember which
in spyro 3 and unused arena was found in the dino mines thanks to swim through the air glitch, it was in a portal that was left under level and the arena itself contains nothing but dirt trench in a circle, its believed a boss fight would have taken place there at some point
The Spyro prototype that leaked online recently shows that you were supposed to charge into the metal spiders in High Caves, the fairy would've shrunk them down for you temporarily.
You missed something! The Japanese release had a fixed camera, making some things go unused, and also for the 2nd. I think the 3rd or 4th was canceled in Japan so the Japanese release is a lost bit for one of them.
Me: Bored on YT and looking in my recommended section Also me: Sees new lost bits YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS
The fact the devs hid in some obscure reference to something as intricate and perceived "nerdy" as ancient litterary works, and then continued to reference it in-game speaks volumes to overall how competent and in-line they are. Also "thigh masters" is worthy of a romhack
The changing tracks are really interesting, I ran into one of them in Wizard's Peak while recording one of my own Spyro videos and sounded like a completely new theme with a bit of Beast Makers sound effects, but I had no idea why or what caused the music to change. Also note that I was playing the Japanese version of Spyro when this happened, and the Japanese and European copies share similar differences when compared to the American version, so I feel like this particular one that I heard is probably one of the other 6 European tracks you mentioned.
Did you know there was originally going to be a Viking that would take you to some of the other levels? But it was changed do to some levels like Magic Crafters and Dream Weavers main entrance not having a doc.
Wow I own that first demo. It was released in a playstation demo disc with the playstation magazine. I still remember thinking it was the full game when I was a kid, and it pretty cool to see it again.
Man, I remember the PSX demo for Spyro - played the hell out of it at my local ToysRUs (as well as the demo for Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast when that was in production)
I got a" PlayStation interactive cd volume 9" disc at the flea market, and it has a spyro demo super similar to that one you showed, I'll grab some photos and post them in discord
I think the end credits theme in the demo is a slightly different version to the one in the full game, since I own a copy of the Spyro 1 demo, and the only difference from yours is that the end portals are like they are in the full version. I've also heard that "Theme Mix" in the main game when you stay in a level for too long, you get a "secret" track, but it only seems to happen in the later levels, I can't remember where exactly, but around world 3. And that "Euro High Caves" theme is on my version of the game, and I was dissapointed to hear a slowed-down version of Tree Tops in the remake.
The original heads up display icon was used for how many lives you have and how many of those little orbs things you have until it fills up to give you another life. The spyro head was there until when it was replaced with a golden spyro head. It was scrapped for unknown reasons
Do one on the recently released prototype. I managed to get Thigh Masters to show up in the proto as a world name by messing with my treasure count with memory editing!
The Spyro trilogy were the best 3D platformers of that era, I still have my old copies and they still hold up. Loved them growing up and they still hold a special place in my heart.
I can't recall if you clarified, but some of those music cycles were available in the game, not just the demos. Usually wandering around for a long-long-long time just goofing off, or looking for gems, those song variants would start to play in some worlds. Always really cool, I wondered where these versions could be found. It's a shame you had to hokey around some place forever before you could get them to activate, and even then I didn't know which worlds played which tunes. Of course, this being in the era before internet and uploads of secret content
Hey I’m a huge fan of Spyro, you should have mentioned LxShadow’s videos on the Spyro bets build he got his hands on, which featured gameplay of pretty much the whole game with differences throughout such as placements of gems, dragon cutscenes and a couple more stuff. He also has videos on the other two games in the series which should be helpful with covering the rest of the series. If you do Spyro 2, be sure to include the different entrance to the final boss and the loads (and loads) of unused animations! Overall great video my guy!
I had the spyro demo along with other games on some demo disc for the ps1. I believe it's the pizza hut demo disc. It had metal gear, medieval, spyro, a racing game, and some snowboarding game. Not sure what else
4:57 OMFG THE SECRET MUSIC USE TO SCARE ME AS A KID CUZ I DIDN'T KNOW WHY THE THEME MUSIC CHANGED. Id leave the game running while I ate dinner or whatever and came back to the music different
@@TetraBitGaming Oh, I did. I remember playing the demo on Crash 3 and Jampack discs to see how different they were. In one of them, there's a locked chest in the Artisan homeworld and that sure as hell's not there in the final!
I actually had a demo disc of Spyro, it was one of those gaming magazine discs that had like 5 demos on it, it got stolen when I was 5 by someone who broke into my house and stole my ps1 and a ton of my games I remember I also had a disc with a tiny tank and medievil demos
The reason why there is a squishing sound effect in the game fouls is because of there is a power up that you are supposed to get from one of the fairies that shrinks down those spider like armored beetle things. However because that power up was cut from the game, we don't hear that power up sound effect. That sound effect is still in some copies of the game. Just not many and it does not increase the value of a copy
A lot of things from the beta were left out such as the higher quality music and Gnasty Gnorc's stage design which was way better than the final one used in original and remake.
I knew this was gonna be good as soon as Lofty Tower started playing. Also if I could weigh in about when the demos were out.... I got a ps1 for Christmas in 1997 and it came with a demo disk which included a demo for this game. I played the fuck out of it too.
Here's something you did not know: in at least ONE of the alpha/beta builds Gnorc Cove and Twilight Harbor have their names changed (or, rather............. being the intended ones).
I did just comment with my opinion on Spyro and whatnot... But I meant to add something and I can't edit on this app. I'd love to see more episodes on PS1 games. More Crash stuff especially, but more Spyro stuff would be great too.
